Do you mean the wireless button? This is in case you want to turn it off if
your going to fly. It is called airplane mode.

I have a dumb question. I have a Dell laptop. On the right side of it,
towards the back, there is a button that can be pressed to turn the modem
off. Why on earth would yu want to do that?

Hi Matthew,

How do you make reservations for the flight if the modem is turned off? LOL
LOL

I couldn't resist! However, would you please explain airplane mode? I can
certanily understand different reasons for turning the modem off but, if
that is what that button does, why is it referred to as, airplane mode?
Thanks much, take care.
Mike

Re: [Blind-Computing] Laptop question

2011-10-21 Thread David Ferrin
Airplane mode is used to disable all wireless signals both incoming and
outgoing from the unit in question either phone or some sort of lap top
computer. The reason for this is so that you can use your device on an
airplane but not interfere with the on board electronics of the craft.

Not sure how this would apply, but, I know on my netbook I had sort of the
same issue and I had to update the bios for it to show the correct charge in
xp. I am certainly not saying to flash your bios, it can be really
unpleasant if it messes up, but, it's something to research all the same.
Good luck getting it figured out.
