RE: [BlindHandyMan] rattling pipes

2006-10-06 Thread Michael Baldwin

Could be water hammer. That is caused when water suddenly changes from
stopped to moving or moving to stopped. Turn on and off the valve slower
and see if that does the trick. They do make water hammer arresters that
will eliminate or reduce the problem, but I would fix the toilet first and
see if it still does it.

Recently, my stepson broke the floater in the toilet tank. That big plastic
ball on the articulated arm that stops the water flow when it reaches a
certain level. So now, to flush it, we turn on the water from the wall
valve. When we do this, the pipes make a very loud rattling sound as if they
want to jump out of their mountings. HOw do I fix this? The nuts ataching
the in flow pipe to the tank and to the wall seem to be tight, so I can only
guess this is happening inside the wall. Is this about right?

I would like to post this file up on the web site for others to have access.
Please send it to me if you wouldn't mind. I have got the model from talking
thermostats the VIP 1005 to be exact. If that's the same model you have then I
do have that manual. Let me know either way please, thank you.

  Hi Dale,

My thermostat started giving a message something like 'operating hours
indicate it is time...'. Since I haven't been able to find the manual since
my house was robbed on Christmas day, I called Best Way to ask what to do.
They told me to open the front flap and find
the two horizontal rows of buttons, then hold down the right bottom button
for at least 3 seconds. That worked.
They also sent me the instructions as an MP3, as well as the complete manual
with wiring diagrams as a PDF. Feel free to contact me off list at

   Hi
Perhaps one of the most recognized power tools for the woodworker or
carpenter, the circular saw offers portability and versatility to the
   user. It is the
go anywhere power tool of choice when it comes to cutting wood for a
wide variety of tasks or projects. Builders and carpenters usually own
   several!

For finer cabinetry work in a well-equipped workshop, the circular saw
may not see as much use, particularly if a table saw or cabinet saw is
   available,
however, the circular saw is still the best option for tasks like
breaking down large sheet goods in the absence of a large sliding table
   for the stationary
   saw, or a panel saw.

I once owned the Triton 235mm circular saw, but sold it along with my
Triton workstation when I bought a new cabinet saw. To this day I still
   regret letting
it go. It was a solid saw with great cutting capacity. I have been using
a 7 1/4 circular saw ever since and there have been numerous times when
   I need
that extra cut depth the 9 1/4 (235mm) circular saw offers.

I managed to get my hands on the GMC LS236LS 235mm circular saw recently
and gave it a good look over and workout. What follows is my review of
   the tool.

   GMC LS236LS Circular Saw
First and foremost, the saw comes packed in a box with good styrofoam
casing protection. There is no plastic case for the saw (very few
   circular saws come
with them) and even fewer people actually keep their saws in them! Apart
from the saw in the box, included is a full color user manual, which, as
   is the
case with all GMC product manuals lately, very well put together with
easy to follow instructions and sharp full-color photographs. There is
   also a guide
fence and arbor nut wrench, but let's examine the saw itself in detail
   now...

   LS236LS Specifications Discussion
In terms of construction, the saw body is a mix of hard plastic
(incorporating the main handle, motor casing and front handle) and rigid
   aluminum (saw base,
blade guard, bevel and depth adjustments etc). As with most 235mm saws,
this one is quite heavy. It weighs in at around 7.5 kgs (16.5 lbs). It
   seems to
be built quite well and feels solid in the hand. As a rigid base plate
is necessary for accurate and repeatable cuts, it is good to see GMC

 have implemented
a fairly thick aluminum base on the LS236LS that resists unintentional
 warping or twisting in use.

The LS236LS saw features a powerful 2300W motor and everything is double
insulated for safety. This is over 3HP, so there is plenty of power to
 cut through
even dense lumber at full cutting depth. I don't think you will have
 much trouble

[BlindHandyMan] Friday the thirteenth.

2006-10-06 Thread Phil Parr
Well, it is coming up fast and I for one am ready. Actually, really not but
I will be.
Remember Friday the thirteenth is the last day the hotel has to garentee the
72$ room rate they gave us. I believe they might make an exception or two but
they don't half to. Point being, if you are coming make your reservations
before that day to avoid any problems.

Good time in November, Phil Parr.

[BlindHandyMan] Luan said.

2006-10-06 Thread Phil Parr
My wife Luan said I didn't explain that very well so, well, She is My wife
and She must be correct.

When all of this began back in January I ask that twenty rooms be set aside
for our little gathering. The hotel said they would give us a rate of 72$ for
that many rooms. They also stated that we must fill the room quota by a certain
date or they had the right to rent the remaining rooms at what ever rate they
wanted to. Our cut off date is next Friday the thirteenth and say we have 16
reservations by then. I must guarantee payment on the remaining four rooms or
relinquish them and allow the hotel to put them back in their rooms for rent.
Also at that time I must guarantee payment for the conference room we are using
or allow it to be possibly used by some one else.

Sure hope this explanation satisfies my wife and everyone else.

Good weather the first weekend in November in Houston, Phil Parr.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Talking Thermostat was New Tool Review

2006-10-06 Thread Mark M
Hi Lee,

Oops, when I said BestWay I should have said SmartWay. I ordered my
thermostat about a year ago by phone from:
 SmartWay Solutions, Inc.
 1309 Dealers Avenue
 New Orleans, LA 70123
 toll free phone (866) 743-5663

 www.smartwaysolutions.com

I paid a handyman $25 to come over and install it, but he didn't even glance
at the instructions - just said it was a standard install.

Mark, we do not have any Best Way stores near us here in New York but
I'd just like to say that those folks deserve a big pat on the back for
their ready assistance when you needed them. Now I have a question. did
you install your own talking thermostat and if so was it much of a
 problem. thanks.Lee
