What I never understood about the ozone layer is why it isn't a self regulating
system. The more ultraviolet which penetrates the atmosphere the more ozone it
will generate to replace that removed by those fluorocarbons.

Dan,

People will believe what they want to believe.

Over a career of nearly forty years in Physical therapy I have always been
amazed at the number of people complaining of their bad backs they blamed on
the vibration exposure in their trucks, heavy equipment even with air suspended
seating who then went home and spent the evening in their in some cases as much
as multi thousand dollar vibrating chairs. The very vibration that health and
safety protects them from on the job and against which they would readily make
compensation claims becomes therapeutic off the job. Get Renaults disease from
operating a drill or chain saw and someone will be responsible then go to the
Chiropractor and pay to use a magic hand massager.

Damage your lungs on the job with ozone and you can use some of your Workers'
Compensation claim money to buy a generator for your personal home use I
suppose.

Some of these things are like politics and religion. there is no requirement
for the proponent to demonstrate anything.

Hello,

I have for sale an as new mini angle grinder. This grinder takes the smaller
grinding/cutting/sanding disks... I think they are about 4 or 5 inches diameter.

This has only been used once and is in perfect condition and comes complete in
box with handle, which can be positioned in 3 places and the grinder has
spindle lock, so removing the retaining nut is so much easier.

Included also is instruction manual and tool to fit retaining nut.

Only asking £15, however buyer's choice of postage will be additional.

Payment by bank transfer preferred, payments by Paypal shall have to include
extra to cover admin costs imposed by Paypal.

I could not get the link to open, but I will try again later.

My sister-in-law shows dogs as a hobby. They have about 11 dogs. At these
shows, benders are there that sell ozonators. They bought one without my
influence. A lot of dog show people must use ozonators.

After 9/11, the company that made my ozonator donated a bunch of these units to
the Pentagon. The people at the Pentagon said that these units were the only
thing that worked to get rid of the aviation fuel smell and the fire smell.

I have been using ozone for over 15 years, and I believe that ozone turns a
house into a healthy environment.

I must admit that I do not trust the FDA or the EPA, and some other government
agencies.

I do not want to convince someone to do what I do or change one's mind.
Everyone must decide what works for themselves.

Ozone is part of nature, such as a lightening strike, when you can smell the
ozone. This cleanses the air and land. This is the good ozone. My
ozonator has the same smell as the ozone from a lightening strike.
Ozone will kill all bacteria, virus, and dust mites in the air by burning
  them with oxygen.
I have a guide dog and had other dogs in the past, and the ozone gets rid of
most odors. Tour house never smelled like dog, except when using the vacuum
  cleaner.

One reason why I like ozone is that it neutralizes chemicals.

We had new carpet installed. As you may know new carpet has strong odors
from the plastic vapors. We put the ozonator in the room and cranked it up
all the way since we were going to be out of the house a few days. We came
  back and had no odors.

I believe that bad ozone is ozone mixed with pollution. I do not know when
ozone helps pollution or opposes it. I have never smelled ozone on days
with high ozone alerts. Since I am telling you what I believe and am not
sure, do not believe it, let's find out what bad ozone is. A few years ago
I was at a web site that explained the difference and I will look for it.

The good kind of Ozone? which version of o3 is the good kind and which is

pollutant. Think of it this way, it is used as a disinfectant because it
quote kills the microbes that come into contact with it. People may be

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Deck board screws

2010-06-23 Thread Bob Kennedy
If you're going to be throwing away the current deck boards, then you have a
few options to get the screws out. None of which are going to be easy though.

First thing I'd try is take a slightly larger drill bit to the heads. They are
pretty thin so you should be able to take the heads off with a drill.

If that works, you should be able to pry the boards up and off the shafts of
the screws. Try it on a screw near the end to start with.

If it works, then you can grip the shaft with vise grips and twist them out.

If drilling doesn't seem to work, try a hole saw close to the size of the
screw. I think 3 quarters is probably as small as you'll find.

The drill in the center will come out once the set screw is loosened.

You don't have to drill all the way through the board. Just trying to make
some space for those vise grips. You'' have to chisel out to the ring from the
hole saw.

Finally if none of the above work. set your circular saw to the same depth as
the deck board. Now you can cut squares out going cross ways to the boards and
then rip between the deck screws. If you make the squares small enough, you
can use a wood chisel to split the wood away from the screws.

Once again, you can use the vise grips and try one of those damaged screw
removers that go in the drill.

As far as the boards cupping, see if you can get someone to help you mark them.
The growth rings on the ends of the boards should make an ark like a rainbow.
If the arch curves upwards, that should be the top. Screwing them will only
help to pull the arch flat.

If the arch runs downwards and looks like a smile, the edges will keep wanting
to pull up.

You will be very unlucky indeed if you hit any of the original screw shafts
with your new screw.

You might check too if the original screws are in fact Philips screws. they may
be the square drive and superior Robertson screws which is why your Philips
driver is stripping them. Generally they get stripped going in but are fine on
the way out if you bear firmly and straight down on them. You might also want a
new driver with sharper and fresh tines to better grab the old screws.

  Eric,

Your idea is one I did think of, however, the only concern I have is if they
end up flush with the joist I am going to have to be very careful the new
hole does not get drilled where the cut off screw is.

The only good way would be to use a saws all to cut the screws off at the
joists. Two screws per board at every joist is fine, just sink it a little.

Looking for some opinion before I replace the surface boards
on our 12 by 16 exterior deck. I will be using the pressure
treated premium decking which they refer to as a five
quarter by six. The actual finished width is about 5 and a
half inches. Anyway after I get done removing the old, which
I may say is no small task as many of the Phillips screws
are counter sunk and of course stripped. So one question is
maybe somebody has some novel ideas on removing them that I
have not thought of? All ideas welcome. My question on the
new boards is to minimize cupping over the years do you
think its over kill to use 3 deck screws per joist rather
than the way it is now with 2?

  thanks
  Al
