[BlindHandyMan] Bugs

2006-10-13 Thread Steve & Shannon
Hi All,

Does any one know of a good bug spray that you can spray around the base
boards for roaches that will not harm pets?

spray more than likely won't work, unless you make contact with the roach.
Your probably going to need some professional help here. Someone will have
to spray this powder called Boric acid in the cracks and crevices where the
roaches congregate. That's usually around moisture.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Bugs

2006-10-13 Thread Victor Gouveia
I once read that you could draw a chalk line around crevices, baseboards, doors
and windows, even edges of countertops. The bugs or roaches would kill
themselves trying to lick it off or something like that because it clogs their
pores or something like that.

I even hear there's a type of chalk with poison in it, and the roaches track
the stuff to their lair, and it kills off all the other critters with them.

I remember when I was a kid, we used to buy this bug and roach chalk, and we
would put it on the insides of cupboards and along the corners or holes where
we knew they would get in.

In any case, you might want to check with a place like Home Depot, lows, or
Rona, if you live in Canada, or even one of the smaller type hardware stores to
see if they have this chalk. It used to be very common.

Victor

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Bugs

2006-10-13 Thread Betsy Whitney, Dolphin Press
Living in Hawaii, I think I may be an expert on this subject... grin.

I have pets and for about 15 years I have used something called
Harris Pills. I think they have other names, but basically they are
boric acid tablets. The powder is really messy and gets gummy if it
is in a moist place. The pills can be dropped behind a refrigerator,
stove, washer, be put inside a cabinet... You only need one tablet
per room and they need to be replaced about every six months at
first. Now I put them out once a year just in case.

One of their favorite ways to come into a home is in paper grocery
bags and cardboard boxes. You can't see them because often they are
hidden in a fold somewhere or their eggs are in there and then they
hatch. I think the tablets cost about $3 for two hundred, practically
a lifetime supply.
Good luck..

Are you sure of that? I used to live in Florida. We had some down there
that if two or three of them worked together they could carry off a small
dog or cat.

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Bugs

2006-10-17 Thread Robert J. Moore
Hi up here in Minnesota where we raise a lot of soy beans we have a lot of
these bugs that we genarically call Ladie bugs. Some call them African or
asian beedles. They are a little domed shape bug with a hard shell. They
kind of just look like a little round bump like you would find on the home
row of some key boards. Now that I have described them the best I can.
How do you get rid of the darned things without using chemicals? I remember
some one posting about those plugg in gagetts that put out a frequency.
Does any one know if they work spacifically on lady buggs?

My brother and his wife have one and it works great for flies and spiders
and the like but I don't know about ladie bugs.
Just because it works for one thing does not garentee that it will work for
other things and I just hate to piss away money on some thing that is not
tried and true.
So not to be rude but please no guesses I only want to hear what if any
thing has actually worked consistantly for ladie bugs.

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Bugs

2006-10-18 Thread Jim Ruby
Knock on wood I do not have the problem of these so called lady bugs and I
use the ultrasound sound pest controllers so they might be worth a try. On
how to clean keyboards with them I am unsure, don't smash them as they leave
yellow gunk around.

Btw: these so called lady bugs are actually Asian beattles they killed off
the actual lady bugs cause they had no devences to fight off the meaner
ones. I forget why they were brought in to the us or if they just came on
there own hitching a ride from something imported.

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Bugs

2006-10-18 Thread jim
hi robert,
i live up here too and the dern things are all over g.
no the bug thingys do not work on them.
but what does is hang a fly sticker in a room next to a light.
leave the light on all night and it will fill up fast.
another thing that works is, if you have a sighted person that likes to hunt
get a yard stick and put a inside out loop of duct tape on the end.
then they can just go around and pick them off the walls, ceiling and curtains.
i have tried other kinds of tape but the little buggers do not stick to it.
just duct tape.
then when you have a bunch on the tape just take a paper towel or whatever
andgrab the whole mess off the stick and toss them.

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Bugs

2006-10-18 Thread Robert J. Moore
Two things on this post.
First I was not talking about getting them off of the key boards but was
describing there size and shape. Some key boards have a rather pronounced
bump on the f and j.
Also just a note on these spons of Satan other wise commonly refered to as
ladie bugs .
They were brought over here to deal with the problems of Ayffids.
We still have Ayffids in this country. Hmmm I sure hope they don't come up
with too many more good ideas.

Ps
They don't go well with coffee or pop corn
