Re: [BlindHandyMan] Sink trap

2007-01-07 Thread Dale Leavens
Well in that case I have never seen such. The only ones I am familiar with
have either two sort of ears which stick down from the bottom of the
threaded plug like device or lugs which face into the center of a sort of
hole molded up into the center of the plug.

Sorry!

You can still probably grab the outer diameter of the thing assuming it is
in other ways the same as I am used to with a pair of vise-grip or other
channel lock pliers.

There are, as someone else mentioned here the sort which can be unthreaded
with a nut from the end of the elbow that faces down toward the trap at it's
exit. The entry also has a thread which slides onto the tail from the sink.
In this way you can remove the entire trap for cleaning or replacement or
just to remove the plug from the convenience of a work bench I suppose.

Hi Robert,

There is probably a specific tool for the job but all I have ever used is a
vice grip or even a bar held between those little pegs to remove the plug.
Keep a bucket under the trap you will likely get about a cup of disgusting
effluent come out of there.

There should be a little rubber washer, try not to lose it, it makes a
difference.

Hope this helps.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Sink trap

2007-01-07 Thread Paul Franklin
Robert, you can remove the plug in the sink trap by turning it counter
clockwise with channel locks or an adjustable wrench. Have a can or a cup
ready when you take out the plug to catch the water in the trap.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Sink trap

2007-01-07 Thread rj
I found it is a lot safer to just remove the trap. It is a lot easier to
replace the 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 compression rings.

[BlindHandyMan] Sink trap

2007-01-07 Thread Robert j. moore
I want to open the trap under the bathroom sink
It looks to have a plug of some sort at the very bottom. It is about the
size of a quarter and it has a small tab on each side. I was wondering if
that comes off and if so how do you remove it.I don't want to break those
tabs.
