RE: [BlindHandyMan] drier vents
Yup, clothes lines in Oklahoma are not nearly as effective as clothes lines in Colorado. (LOL) I remember just taking some of the old polyester clothes out of the washer, hanging them on hangers and in about 12 hours they would be dry - inside the house! Now, here in good old Okieland if you did that they probably would mold before they ever thought about drying... Dad... Re: [BlindHandyMan] drier vents
Just coming into this thread. I would be more concerned about moisture using one of these diverters than anything else. I.E. in the winter, if the dryer is in the basement and the furnace is also in the basement I would use it, but in the summer, (like now) I would not use it. I know, I know! it's suppose to dirrect the exhaust to the outside in summer ? I never saw one that was sealed enough to get all the moisture outside. Just my thoughts. - Original Message - From: Robert J. Re: [BlindHandyMan] drier vents
One thing important about washers and dryers. Brace the washer and dryer from behind with blocks. Otherwise, as it is inevitable that you will lean against one or the other appliance, over time it will slide backward and crimp the hose, creating a fire hazard for the dryer. So, brace it so that doesn't happen. - Original Message - From: "Robert J. RE: [BlindHandyMan] drier vents
Dale the unit I have for venting into the house has a fine mesh screen and we use a natural soap and use no product in the drier. Having said that would you suppose that it is still not a good idea to vent into the house? Re: [BlindHandyMan] drier vents
What I know about the corrugated plastic flexible hoses is that they are implicated in dryer fires. As for venting directly into the house, the very fine lint which remains in the air stream is said to be pretty harmful to health. I have run a dryer like that for a time in a particular commercial setting but with a nylon stocking over the end of the hose. This appeared to work well particularly when the stocking had a thin layer of cake form on the inside and they do fill up completely and surprisingly rapidly. On the other hand it seems a shame to pay for that heat and moisture and just pump it outside when you also pay for heat and humidity. I don't suppose it is healthy either to inhale the chemistry in those anti-static chemicals. I have not seen any actual scientific articles defining any health issues but it is hard to imagine that aerosol particles can ever be good to breathe. So, a rigid vent pipe is preferred at any length but the longer the run, the more significant the benefits and safety. Cy Yep it is electric. We have used the flapper valve the way that you said and it does work very well. the only reason that I posed this question was that some times things are not always what they appear. Just because some thing seams to work does not mean that it is always a good idea. for example stripping wires with ones teeth or perhaps using a planer without using a push board. RE: [BlindHandyMan] drier vents
Robert, I would recommend the metal vent hose. It just works so much better. Now, as for the flapper valve, so long as your dryer is electric then the only thing you need to consider is the increased humidity and possible lint. When it got really cold last year I ran the dryer from time to time in order to help heat up that end of the home a little. We would wait to dry cloths until early morning in order to help warm up the kitchen area.
