RE: [BlindHandyMan] window air conditioners

2006-08-03 Thread Trouble
With a Central air unit. You cool all airiers not just one. I got a
apartment with a window/wall mount in the wall. It cools only half
the apartment. My back bedroom stays warm no matter what I do. Even
using a second fan to push the cool air down the hall doesn't do a
thing. Glad all rooms here have ceiling fans in them. Wish it had Central air.

I think it might depend on how many folks live in your house.
It seems to me that if there are just a couple then it would be more
efficient to only heat or cool the area you are using.
From all I have read the per BTU cost of a window unit is just about the
same as the central units. This being the case, since the window units are
as efficient then you really gain nothing by using the central unit except
the convenience of not having to bother with the units in each area.
As high as energy is getting it might save quite a bit of money not to cool
those areas of your house you are not currently using. AT night just cool
your bedroom and during the day you need not cool the bedroom cause you
ain't supposed to be in bed, you are supposed to be out doing something
meaningful. (LOL)

out of 4 window air conditioners, I have two which I can operate. I do this
by just unplugging the machine to clean the filters . However two newer ones
I can still clean the pop out filter but the newer ones are programable so
I do not make any adjustments, especially with the hot weather which has
found its way to the Northeast. I might also say, If I had the money and a
better brain at the time I would have opted for central air which my furnace
is set up for. Now that I said all of that, how many of you are operating
air conditioners which are more than 10
years old. .I'dfinish by asking sighted folks in my house to not to
touch any settings on these older machines as I always know what is set to
what I want. thanks.Lee

2006-08-03 Thread rj
If you have a ceiling exhaust fan and about 3/4 inch gap at the bottom of
the bathroom, shut the door and turn on the exhaust fan. It will draw the
hot out and draw the cool air through the house. Not as good as a attic fan
but does work.

2006-08-03 Thread Cy Selfridge
Well, what I had in mind was a small (whatever size is deemed appropriate)
for each area.
Your bedroom should have its own unit and then you could just cool that area
at night.
We live in a 16x90 mobile home and when the youngsters move out (if that
ever happens) we sure do not need to cool or heat the front half of this
thing.
