Thanks for the feedback, I was trying to think of the "triflow" product
name.

Jeff
There are a lot of spray lubricants on the market and every one is going to
have their opinion so here is mine.
2 that you may want to check out are JB 80 which claims oddly enough to be
twice as good as wd 40 hence the name JB 80 which is made by Justice
Brothers. Which I have actually never used but know people that sware by it.
But my favorite at this point is a product called PB blaster.
It is an all purpose spray lubricant.
I can't really tell you what is in it but the next time you are in an auto
parts store have some one read the lable to you.
So that's my 2 picks.

Over WD40, what would be a good spray lubricant for general use?

Re: [BlindHandyMan] lubricant

2007-06-09 Thread Lenny McHugh
Hi Robert,
I never heard of pb blaster, I have an old can of liquid wrench that I used
on occasions I used wd40 to protect my fishing reels. I do believe that the
wd stands for water displacement. and the 40 was the fortieth formula.
I also read somewhere that although wd40 is designed to protect from
moisture it is not the best lubricant, I think that the article mentioned
that it would work more like a cutting oil. So if used on ball bearings it
could help wear them down. I will have to look around for that information,
They say that the mind goes first and I do forget what is second.
The heating and air condition engineer where I use to work made his own
formula for motor bearings. I know he mixed a few drops of stp with #30
motor oil. He believed that the oil lubricated and the stp made it stick to
the bearings.
I never had any reason to try that concoction.

Thank you for your post
I have used that in the past and have been racking my brains trying to
remember the name of that stuff. I'm not sure that try flow is as aggressive
for loosening rusty old bolts but on the other hand as it is a Teflon based
product I think it is less proned to collecting dust than other products
like wd 40 or PB blaster.
So it may be a better choice in some situations for lubricating but as a
penatrent I still like PB Blaster.
I think a lot of people don't stop to think about the difference between a
penitrant and a lubricant.

Well, I think it depends on what you want to lubricate. My favorite is
Triflow. I use it on my grandson's bicycle chain because it is Teflon based
and doesn't attract any dirt. For my tool surfaces I use a product called
slippit. For the oven door I used white lithium grease. I also use silicon
spray for door locks. I really don't think that there is truly an one stop
product.
