Hi,

If you do put carpet, don't use burber! It will unravel from the
pulling of the claws.

when I built a cat house for my mom I made it out of plywood and two-by-twos
and put carpet on the outside so they can climb the cat house and play
inside it. It had two levels, a hole in the front where they could go in and
jump up to the second level which was half of the size of the bottom, the
top had a hole that they could go in there. They would run up and down
inside that thing and up and down the outside of it. It was great and they
loved it.

Aloha Lenny,
Is this supposed to be a house for the cat to stay inside? I just
wonder because if it can get out, it will probably continue to
scratch it's favorite furniture anyway. I have found that having more
than one scratching post works well, and you put them in front of the
things you don't want them to scratch. A little catnip on the
scratching post gets their attention.
I also think a person has to be diligent about removing them from
things that are not appropriate to scratch. It takes some doing, but
it's worth it in the long run. Some of my friends have used a squirt
gun to shoot them when they are doing in appropriate scratching, but
my aim isn't that good.

2010-06-29 Thread Lenny McHugh
This is just for indoors. It will be designed for play and a place to hide.
I also intended to add a scratching post. I think and hope that the fact
that she can lay on top or hide inside and have several things to occupy her
may help. When they are home there is no problem. But when they go out is
when the damage happens.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] making a cat house

2010-06-28 Thread Mike Rusk
I built one for our cats several years ago. It is outside so they can be
outside and enjoy watching the birds and getting fresh air. I didn't
include any carpeting but they had rough wood which was good for their claws
and gave them lots to scratch. I thought about installing a pole or tunnel
but never made it. I used plain old pine and had a second level which they
could acces up a ramp. I enclose it with simple garden fencing and made a
door by which we could put them in and retrieve them. My daughter painted
it purple, after the K-State Wild Cats colors. We recently lost one of our
cats, but they did get lots of pleasure in their old Cat house and I enjoyed
telling folks I built a Cat House, haha!
