Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem
Aloha Brice, You might want to check your seal and also check to see if the drainage paths are clear. Since it only seems to be on one side it makes me think that maybe it isn't level and the drainage isn't working properly. So I had to pull a little harder to free it. This is on the inside bottom right side only. Any suggestions as to what's going on?
Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem
I agree. We have trouble with ice freezing up in a drip pan at back of our freezer, this is our fridge and freezer. Once you get the ice cleared out of that pan, you can find the drain hole and feed a flexable tube of some sort down it to check the drainage. Should drain into your drip pan under the unit I think, and be dried by a fan there. My freezer, I have to take screws or bolts out to get to the true bottom of the freezer to find the drip pan and drain. - Original Message - From: Betsy Whitney, Dolphin Press To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2010 11:53 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem Aloha Brice, You might want to check your seal and also check to see if the drainage paths are clear. Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem
That happened to me and it took me forever to figure it out, but on mine if you take out the basket drawer and then feel up the back you should eventually run into a ledge that sits back just a little deeper than the wall. Mine had a thin metal piece and I had to remove a few screws so I could get my hand back there. Once you can get your hand on this ledge, there should be a drain hole there. Mine was plugged and I just ran a coat hanger down through a few times to make sure I cleared the drain and I haven't had a problem since. hope I was clear enough and this helps. On mine, the drain is on the right side. Check to make sure the drain is not obstructed. If it is not, check the setting of the temperature inside the freezer. It could be that the setting is to low. Or it could also be that the defrost element is not working. Hope this gives you some ideas. - Original Message - From: Brice Mijares To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2010 11:15 AM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem I have a upright freezer that's about 3 to 4 years old, it's suppose to be a frost free freezer. Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem
FYI, I think they actually have... no... I know they have them, because I bought one at ace hardware, but there are now small flexable plastic snakes, which can feed down through even a sink drain and are long enough to make it through the pea-trap. Should be small enough to do down these freezer drains as well. - Original Message - From: Eric To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2010 12:22 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem That happened to me and it took me forever to figure it out, but on mine if you take out the basket drawer and then feel up the back you should eventually run into a ledge that sits back just a little deeper than the wall. Hi Betsy , I also thought of the same thing. I'll have to go buy another level, I dropped mine and broke it. Good thing it was one of those cheap 2 foot plastic levels. In the mean time I'll use a glass with water in it. smiles. - Original Message - From: Betsy Whitney, Dolphin Press braill...@hawaii.rr.com To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2010 9:53 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem Aloha Brice, You might want to check your seal and also check to see if the drainage paths are clear. Re: [BlindHandyMan] minor freezer problem
Some years ago when I was still living in Wheaton, IL. the freezer in my refrigerator had the same problem, this was one of those frigs with the main storage on top and the freezer compartment on the bottom. What had happened is my dear departed Carol had not quite shut the freezer door tightly enough, allowing some ice build-up to form and clogging the drain hose. I had to use a hair dryer to remove the ice build-up and I don't recall how I got the ice out of the drain hose. Point being though, not closing the door tightly can cause this problem, but it compounds because if the drain hose also freezes then water (from melt) will pool in the freezer compartment and then also freeze. Good news though, it isn't all that hard to rectify. Holland's Person, Bill E-Mail: billgal...@centurytel.net - The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese!
