Correction: That should be "Fail2ban", not "Bfd".

I find that Fail2ban works a lot more gracefully and especially for
email related attacks it has a great detection rate.

Michael actually agrees with you, which is why he built BFD as an alternative
to dfix. By all means, try it instead. As for whitelisting and dfix, I cannot
explain why APF would delete whitelist entries.

For tuning dfix, you can update the rules manually. They are in /etc/sec - If
there is a particular rule that you don’t like, comment it out.

hello

Dfix2 is too strict, the external IP of users get blocked in APF after just a
few false login attempts or because they connected some device with old
credentials...

Also — I don't know if it's Dfix2 who does it — an IP entered in APF Firewall's
Whitelist gets deleted after a while...

I forgot: how and where can I fine tune Dfix2 ?

Hmmm ... seems to be APF.
If I disable APF all works fine. (
I have tried clearing the APF blacklist but no improvement.

Hi Colin.

Check it with your browser http://newlinq.compassnetworks.com.au - you will
see a message on screen. You can also use lynx to check it from your server. It
will respond with a 500 response code, but you will still see the same message.

If it works on your PC but not your server, give me your IP address and
I’ll investigate.

Yeah, the error happened before any handler could or did run. So it had
to be a CODB index issue, which it turned out to be. It's now fixed.

I just checked and you had a slightly corrupted CODB index:

[root@neptune ~]# /root/oid.sh
1-673
/usr/sausalito/codb/codb.oids reports:
1-644

Means:

Your CODB was using OIDS 1-673, but the CODB index said only 1-644 were
used.

When you created a user, CODB looked at the index and deducted that 645
would be the first free OID number to use for storing the data of the
new user. But when trying to create OID 645 it realized: "Oh buggers,
it's already in usage!"

That's what causes the "UNKNOWN ERROR DURING CREATE".

I just fixed the index in /usr/sausalito/codb/codb.oids and could create
(and then delete) a user. So it should be all good now.

Hi Greg,

This is create via guy, or CMU import? Either way, I’d be looking at
/var/log/messages to see what handler is causing the error and starting there…
Many of the handlers contain debug options - just changing the debug option
might give you enough to get a clue or two

GK

This is via the GUI ...

Following the CMU import I noticed that not all the users had migrated across.
When I try recreating a user via the GUI:

GUI shows UNKNOWN ERROR DURING CREATE

/var/log/messages:

May 5 14:44:38 neptune cced(smd)[29735]: client 7:[49:11679]: CREATE "User"
"fullName" "=" "test user" "ftpDisabled" "=" "1" "capLevels" "=" "" "sortName"

May 5 14:44:38 neptune cced(smd)[29735]: client 7:[49:11679]: CREATE User

Similar issue with creating a new vsite.

I can’t create users on a new 5209R VPS that I have migrated to from
5208R.

GUI shows UNKNOWN ERROR DURING CREATE

Message log shows CREATE User failed (-7)

Quotas are all good.

Have run

/usr/sausalito/sbin/fix_user_UID_and_GID.pl
/usr/sausalito/sbin/web_alias_redirects.pl --enabled
/usr/sausalito/sbin/fix_user_suspension.pl
/usr/sausalito/sbin/fix_web-and-email-server-aliasses.pl

Not all the users migrated across - hence trying to add them again.

What to do?

Thanks
