R.L. was a long time Collins dealer and service technician, operating Howard Radio in Abilene, Texas for decades. Howard Radio is listed in all S-Line manuals. R.L. has restored these two units. They look great, at least a CCA Very Good or better rating. I have seen them in operation and have talked to R.L. from my home station as he transmitted on the 32V-1. His AM audio was great. The receiver play great too. That said, this station has been inoperative for almost two years since R.L. became ill, so the gear is being sold as is. The case shows some minor wear, but not bad. The Roll Chart lists over 600 tubes and there is a supplement chart with even more tubes listed. The tester measures emission, shorts, open tube elements, and cathode to filament leakage. It accepts 4, 5, 6, and 7 in large tubes, regular and miniature, octal, loctal and 9 pin miniature tubes. FS Beautiful Alpha 78 amplifier: This Alpha 78 has been updated by R.L. Howard, Howard Radio, Abilene Texas. He modified it for use with a pair of 3CPX800A7 tubes and did the WARC and 10 meter band additions (except for 12 meters).He also installed a BNC input connector in place of the RCA Phono jack, plus other mods. A new pair of EIMAC 3CPX800A7 pulse rated tubes( brand new, not pulls) were installed. This amp has the Hypersil transformer which will be shipped separately. A new black panel with the 17 and 10 meter positions indicated on the Band Switch was installed. The case is newly painted black. Nice job. Pictures available. Price is $1025 plus shipping. That is considerable below the going price for an Alpha 78 with the 3CPX800A7 tube modification. The reason for the lower price is when I apply drive, nothing happens.
