Water, screen wipes and soft cloths couldn't remove it all. I was sure it was permanently on there at that point. Then I saw something on the net that worked great: Add a small amount of water to a teaspoon or two of baking soda to make a paste. Using a soft cloth, rub the paste onto the pen marks in a circular motion until they are removed. Clean area with a clean damp cloth. The pen marks miraculously came out without leaving "scoured" area on the screen. I'm using that same monitor right now and I couldn't tell you where the pen marks were. You might want to test it in a tiny corner spot on your own monitor first, if you ever try this. ___ http://mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l_mccmedia.com

At Stardate 20100107.2353, Julia inquired: > And, just as importantly, what > should be avoided at all costs? The obvious one thing you will want to avoid is having a ballpoint pen anywhere near your screen from now on. ;-) Draw an imaginary circle around your laptop (a two meter diameter should suffice) and declare it a Ballpoint-Pen-Free Area. And finally, as a last resort, if anyone enters the circle while holding a ballpoint pen, shoot to kill. Someone already suggested using a moist, lint-free cloth. There are cleaning gels and wipes for LCD screens that you can also try. Michael Harney The only "safe" solvent to use on anything computer-screen related is water, preferably distilled, although it won't dissolve most inks. Isopropyl alcohoi will cut through most inks, possibly not as well on ballpoint inks as on dry erase or permanent marker, but it may react chemically with some plastics, particularly transparent/translucent ones. I don't remember if the scratch filler compound I'm thinking about -- that would match the refractive index of the plastic and polish out after applying to hide the scratch -- is something that actually exists or something I wanted that didn't exist. (And I'm not sure how good an idea that would be on a matte finish diffuser surface anyway.) I seem to remember that some LCD's can be disassembled and the front diffuser sheet replaced, and if this is one of those, that might be feasible. It's labor intensive, as I recall .. ___ http://mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l_mccmedia.com
