[Fwd: Re: [Bug-gnubg] Installation problem - 0.16 instead the wanted 0.15]
Thanks Christian, my main confusion is, that I did a absolutly NEW, FRESH installation of GNUBG (supposed to be 0.15): Deleted the older versions before, installed the file gnubg-0.15-stable-20061119-setup.exe, which I got from the download section of the GNUBG website, from the link that was pointing to the 0.15 stable version. And the programm that is running after that installation is version 0.16!!??!!?? So your downgrade hints don't help me much :-( The download archive for the 0.15 version (on the windows download site) seems to contain 0.16 elements! I did not keep track on when GNUBG crashes, but will do from now on. I do a lot of conversions from matches, that I have in HTML-format into computer readable format. Therfore I use GNUBG a lot for recording moves. Going back and forth sometimes uses crashing of GNUBG. Especially when I want to correct the first move in a new game, GNUBG is crashing of freezes and all moves recorded before are lost. Try to describe it more detailled after experiencing another crash. Re: [Bug-gnubg] Installation problem - 0.16 instead the wanted 0.15
Hi Hardy, I'm sorry to hear that the 0.16 version crashes for you. Could you please describe when and how it crashes and tell us if you are using the threaded version? To downgrade just rename the gnubg directory located under Program Files to something else and install a fresh copy of 0.15. If that doesn't work your links must be pointing to a third copy of GNU backgammon. Christian. ___ Bug-gnubg mailing list Bug-gnubg@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-gnubg
[Bug-gnubg] Installation problem - 0.16 instead the wanted 0.15
Hi all, having updated my GNUBG I wanted to use the stable 0.15 version (for Windows). When downloading from the site http://www.gnubg.org/index.php?itemid=56, I receive a file gnubg-0.15-stable-20061119-setup.exe, but after installation and starting of that software, it is the 0.16 version that's actually running. And it crashes _very_ often. Therfore I'd rather prefer the 0.15 version. Where do I get this file? And why is 0.16 running after installing gnubg-0.15-stable-20061119-setup.exe? [Bug-gnubg] MT/SMP bug disappeared??!
Hi folks, weird things are going on. I made a few tests with a certain position regarding the MT bug (standard error no/double). I played a moneygame (attached, it's not that bad ;-) ) and made the following rollouts at the redouble/take position: Current snapshot, all rollouts 2-ply, cube 2ply, 108 games, untruncated, dice Mersenne Twister, seed 1, I restarted gnubg after each rollout! 1) Twice at the take with one processor 2) Twice at the take with two processors 3) Twice at the double with one processor 4) Twice at the double with two processors Here are the numbers: nd std.err takestd.error 1a +0.569 0.013 +0.6540.033 1b exactly the same results (what I expected) 2a +0.569 0.046 +0.6540.033 2b +0.569 0.045 +0.6540.033 3a exactly the same as 1a and 1b 3b exactly the same as 1a and 1b 4a +0.569 0.048 +0.6540.033 4b +0.569 0.046 +0.6540.033 Question 1: The std.error is not shown as big as it was when I first noticed it, but it's still a little bit higher than with using only one processor. Why? Question 2: It differs! Why? I expected the same numbers because of the same seed. Assumption 1: The rollout results themselves seem to be reliable (well, somehow), but I'll crosscheck this with other positions also. Assumption 2: Richard Stallman did issue the blessing on gnubg after we shifted to GPLv3 ;-). If someone wants to debug this, I have saved all rollouts and results. Ciao Achim PS. The behaviour, that gnubg with 2 threads somehow freezes (without error message at the command line) when stopping a rollout in between still remains. ___ Bug-gnubg mailing list Bug-gnubg@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-gnubg
