>From what I understand, the art backend is borderline deprecated, right? Maybe
we can close this bug?

[bug #19974] Some images not handled correctly

2007-05-28 Thread Fred Kiefer

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #19974 (project gnustep):

I had a look at the two images that you send along with the original post to
the mailing list (test.png and test.tiff). These were both 48 bpp images. I
am a bit surprised that GNUstep supports that format at all. Was this with
the standart art backend?

The most likely place to start looking for the origin of the problem is
[NSBitmapImageRep TIFFRepresentationUsingCompression:factor]. I would expect
that either we set some tiff paramters incorrectly here, or the code in
tiff.m is not able to handle this format.

Yes, sorry that I forgot to mention that, this was on the art backend.

Summary: Some images not handled correctly

Details:

If I take a screenshot using the command:
$ import -window root test.png
it produces the test.png image attached! If I then open this image in a
GNUstep app and save it as a TIFF I end up with test.tiff (the other
attached image).

This was done using PhotoClip, but I don't think the problem is particular to
that app because if I try to view test.png using GWorkspace's Content
Inspector I end up with something that looks like the screenshot named
gworkspace_content.png. As you can see, by viewing that image in GNUstep
it somehow gets screwed up.

This is reproducable everytime, no matter how many times I create a
screenshot using the import command. As you can see from the other images
on my desktop, it doesn't happen with every image.

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #19974 (project gnustep):

Well, it turns out all 3 images larger than 512kB, which means Savannah
doesn't allow them to be uploaded. If you would like a copy of these images
let me know and I'll e-mail them.
