I *think* this is invalid. I haven't looked into it since I downgraded to a
security-patched version of 1.3.20 on all our web servers that use mod_proxy.
If I have time at some point I'd like to try the latest 1.3.* release with HTTP
1.1 mod_proxy and see if I can't figure out why our webapp is causing these
problems, and how we can fixed it permanently.

rewrite rules don't work in conf.d, work fine in conf

Summary: rewrite rules don't work in conf.d, work fine in conf
   Product: Apache httpd-2.0
   Version: 2.0.40
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: Normal
  Priority: Other
 Component: mod_rewrite
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Not sure if this is mod_rewrite's fault or not, that's where I saw the symptom.

I was upgrading my 1.3 config to 2.0.40/redhat 9 errata (current as of
yesterday).

The rewrite rules weren't working at all, I couldn't even get a rewritelog
created with the loglevel at 9. The rest of the virtualhost config was working
OK. mod_rewrite shows on the server-info page, proper loadmodule directive,
etc.

I moved the virtualhost config files from conf.d to conf and put an Include in
httpd.conf there, and everything immediately started working just as I'd expect.

I just found a web site using 2.0.45-dev which gave a timestamp so I could test
it with the latest release. Sure enough it works fine.

# curl -i -r bytes=0-9 -z 'Thu, 10 Apr 2003 13:31:20 GMT'
http://perl.apache.org/
HTTP/1.1 304 Not Modified
Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2003 18:30:51 GMT
Server: Apache/2.0.45-dev (Unix)
ETag: "41a9cb-71c1-dd22da00"

I just dug the patch out of CVS with the proper way to ignore Range which was
applied to 2.0.44.

Sorry for bothering. At least now there's a closed bug report documenting it.

If this happens only with mod_php or mod_perl loaded, it's a bug in mod_php
and/or mod_perl.

> Should a new bug be filed? Or should this bug be reopened?

No ;-)

> PHP is assuming that it's a bug in the DSO code.

Probably not. DSO has nothing to do with handling requests.

PHP is designed to handle all you want. Apache relies on the module
capabilities. The content-handler (e.g. mod_php, mod_cgi or the
core-default-handler) is responsible for handling some arbitrary method.

> So is there
> anyone out there who can truly figure out what the problem is? And is this

All said above.
There is *nothing* we can do here. If non-httpd-distributed modules don't stand
to the rules it's obviously not a bug in Apache.

Sorry.

Hmm. Does the problem persist in the current version (1.3.27)? If so, could you
please attach the whole rewritelog with rewriteloglevel 9?

Thanks.

Range header broken when used with If-Modified-Since

Summary: Range header broken when used with If-Modified-Since
   Product: Apache httpd-2.0
   Version: 2.0.40
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: Normal
  Priority: Other
 Component: Other Modules
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When my client app sends this request against a 60KB file

GET /test/ad1s_0001.fbs?u=none&0.6456 HTTP/1.1
Accept: */*
Range: bytes=0-6455
If-Modified-Since: Mon, 10 Mar 2003 19:54:40 GMT

The response is:
HTTP/1.1 416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable

Expecting
HTTP/1.1 304 Not Changed
or
HTTP/1.1 206 Partial Content
depending on the timestamp

Without the If-Modified-Since header I get 206.
Without the Range header I get 304 or 200.

But not together. It appears that it's trying to process the range header after
it has already determined that the response is 304 and there is no response
body.

Works fine in 1.3. I've come up with this patch which works for me but I'm not
intimate with the system so I'm not positive that it's the proper approach to
solve the problem. (Also not sure of the diff options.)

I've tried reproducing the problem with 2.0.45 but I don't have the libs, mods,
perl, etc. to run it. The source looks the same and I couldn't find any bug
report related to it.

Not a major problem but a "Must Patch" for our operation.

Thanks
Scott Becker

Some path handling in mod_rewrite is made in static buffers of that length (and
the strings are simply cut off at the end). In nearly all cases this length is
sufficient because of the maximum path length of the OS.

However, I'm changing the status to 'assigned'. Someone needs to rewrite the
code to use the heap pools rather than the stack ...

Apache 2.0.45 fails to build on FreeBSD with OpenSSL 0.9.7a

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-04-10 13:21 ---
I was able to build httpd-2.0.45 with mod_ssl just now on FreeBSD 4.7 with both
the OpenSSL 0.9.6g and OpenSSL 0.9.7a. This is the original FreeBSD
4.7-RELEASE.

wget /url/to/httpd-2.0.45.tar.gz
tar -xzf httpd-2.0.45.tar.gz
cd httpd-2.0.45
./configure --enable-ssl --prefix=/somewhere \
--with-ssl=/usr/local/openssl-0.9.7a
make

What are the configure options used for your build? What environment variables
(e.g., CFLAGS, CPPFLAGS, etc.) might affect the build?

It looks to me that you're using the FreeBSD port. I would suggest trying pure
Apache 2.0.45, like I did. If that works, then report the problem to the port
maintainer.
