Re: [BVARC] Hurricane Buryl Lessons Learned

Richard yeah I think a lesson learned topic is a good round table
discussion. If you were going to plan something, weekend mornings are when
I think more people may be available. I like Jeff's Idea of a net topic
also.

Glad to hear it went well. Great photo on Facebook. Having it more
frequently would provide more opportunity for people to fit into their
schedule. Distance wise we are not super far from this location but add in
the traffic around dinner time and we are not close either. We would not
make every Friday but could possibly plan better with more time slots.

Re: [BVARC] BVARC - Photojournalist

2024-05-28 Thread N5LNK - Sean Linkenheimer via BVARC
I am looking for anyone interested in teaming with me and taking photos of
BVARC club events. This evening's social gathering at SaltGrass is a
potential good start, but definitely Museum Ships Weekend is the first big
event coming up with no photographer coverage (that I know of). No special
skill is required. I am just interested in the photos you take of the
events that you are willing to have posted in our archive folder on the
website.

The goal is to have a group of us available at our club events to capture
still-life and video of the many great people and the things they are
doing. So, we have a historical archive for future generations. The process
would be we pan out and enjoy the event taking photos or video along the
way. I will gather the media from the group at the end of the event and
disseminate our collection for proper archiving. If we are able to capture
enough usable video clips I plan to compile those into a produced video and
place it on our YouTube Channel. A cell phone camera is capable of these
captures and no special equipment is required, or if you happen to have
dedicated camera equipment feel free to put it to work. Thanks in advance
for your interest in this much needed club support.

If you have any photos you would like to share from past events or of
upcoming events please send them to me off the reflector at
sean.n5...@gmail.com

Sean Linkenheimer

During my time this weekend trying to get myself better prepared when it
comes to emergency communications I came across this Emergency
Communications Plan found freely on the web District 14 ARES
https://stxd14ares.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/dist_14_com_plan.pdf>.
It appears to have proper and updated information and is the
most comprehensive I have found for our area regarding band plan and
leadership structure. This may be useful to you if you are wondering what
frequencies are used in an emergency situation and what the leadership
structure looks like when activated. District 14 is Harris County.

And just in case you are not familiar with the proper procedure in making
an amendment. Here is that process found in the By-Laws.

ARTICLE IX — AMENDMENTS

Article IX Section A

The By-Laws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote at a
general membership meeting wherein
proper notice has been given.

Article IX Section B
Proposals for amendments to the By-Laws shall be submitted in writing to
the President of the Club at least thirty
(30) days prior to a membership meeting. The Corresponding Secretary shall
include any proposed amendments in a
meeting notice mailed to members in accordance with the provision in
ARTICLE V, Section F of these By-Laws.

Re: [BVARC] BOD Zoom Vs IN PERSON

2024-02-01 Thread N5LNK - Sean Linkenheimer via BVARC
Here is a clip from the club's By-Laws. If any member wishes to have it
amended we will hear arguments presented in writing that are written in a
respectful and formal way. Once received that member(s) will have
the opportunity to be present at the next available board meeting to make
their motion. If a second is heard there will be discussion and the board
will vote on the motion.

Article V Section G
Provisions applicable to meetings of the Board of Directors shall be:
1. The board of directors shall meet monthly on the first Thursday of the
month at 7:30 PM at a location voted
upon at a previous board of directors meeting unless changed by a majority
of the board members by giving
proper notice 7 days in advance.. Special meetings may be called by either
a majority of the board members or the
Chairman with 7 days notice either in writing or by verbal contact with
each Board member.
2. A quorum of Board members shall be required for any definitive action on
matters involving the Club. Such
quorum shall be defined as a majority of eligible Board members, at least
one (1) of whom must be an at large
director. In determining the majority, a multiple board position holder
shall count as one Board member.

[BVARC] Greater Houston Hamfest and West Gulf Division Convention

2024-01-12 Thread N5LNK - Sean Linkenheimer via BVARC
Hamfest is a short time away. Maybe you are a long time volunteer and are
already signed up behind the scenes, or maybe you are new to the club and
want to get involved. Either way please utilize this form and let the
organizers know you are interested in helping out. Here is a link so you
can put your name on the list. These types of events don't just happen,
your help is needed and more importantly appreciated. Thank you in advance
for your generous support of our upcoming Greater Houston Hamfest and West
Gulf Division Convention.

Re: [BVARC] BVARC Awards Banquet - Update

2024-01-12 Thread N5LNK - Sean Linkenheimer via BVARC
Good morning everyone.

It is not my intent to belabor this topic. However, this platform has
garnered much more attention and discussion than any before. From what I
have gathered so far is that price, location, and quality of the food
are important. However, the question still remains. Why has this year's
sign-up been seamingly slow and apparently short of expectations when
compared to past years? This alone is the reason the decision was made to
postpone the event. Definitely not because we do not want to recognize
members for their exceptional contributions. A constructive conversation
moving forward from this point would be. What are some respectful reasons
you were not able to attend this year ie: other commitments, day and time,
unaware the event was planned? Do you have a suggestion as to a better time
of year?
