Re: [BVARC] Saturday's Event: Military Cross Band Radio Test
Actually if everyone would show the common courtesy to SHUT UP once the meeting starts, it would help a lot. Next month I think I may have to bring a PA system. Starting on Saturday, the military crossband radio communications test will begin. The earliest station will be on the air at 1am CST from Guam. Here is the ARRL Link: http://tinyurl.com/kefuoah Here is the MARS link: http://tinyurl.com/kgnh5d4 The MARS link above contains the list of stations that will be operating, their approximate operating times, and the frequencies on which you should be LISTENING. If you are new to this operating event, it is very important that you understand that the military personnel will be transmitting on military frequencies. You, the amateur radio operator, will be transmitting on amateur radio frequencies. DO NOT TRANSMIT ON THE MILITARY FREQUENCIES. For further clarification, the military will be listening on the ham bands and transmitting on their military frequencies. You will be listening on the military frequencies and transmitting on your ham bands. This where the term crossband comes from. The military station will announce what frequency that they are listening for you to transmit on. Have fun and make lots of contacts and don't forget to thank them for their service. I am definitely interested in MSWE. I LOVE this event! Could 4 or 5 of us chip in for a motor home, a la, The Red Demon Contest team at Mustang Island. That would get us out of the skeeters. Re: [BVARC] Fwd: ARRL Request to Contact Your US Senators Supporting S 1534 - the Amateur Radio Parity Act
That is true EXCEPT after ARRL's initial attempt which was reasonable, the HOA's got wind of it and created a ruckus. Then congress told both parties to come up with an agreement or there will be no action. That is when ARRL rolled over and completely capitulated to the HOAs and gave them EVERYTHING they wanted. We would have been better if ARRL agreed to nothing and let it die. So yes, it might have been "the best they could agree to" BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO NOT AGREE TO ANYTHING AND IT WOULD HAVE GONE AWAY. Re: [BVARC] [tdxs-list] FW: Let’s keep this "temporary" - beware of today's FCC Waiver - just announced
Furthermore, this was extensively addressed when ARRL proposed it less than a year ago. Even hard core narrow bandwidth people don’t want to stifle technology, so the counter proposal was to give wideband part of the SSB sections or equal amounts from upper CW/Data and SSB. Of course ARRL, the people who brought you the disastrous Parity Act would have nothing to do with this. Re: [BVARC] [tdxs-list] Watching the Eclipse in MO
Ditto to Nizar. Let's put it this way - I had been to done of totality 3 times before so this was my 4th. I flew more then 2000 miles to Oregon and then drove 300 miles each way to the chosen site. A 99% eclipse vs a 100% totality is no contest. Like Nizar, with encroaching darkness, seeing the diamond ring effect, the wildlife chattering, the 15 degree drop in temperature in 15 minutes, and then totality with the solar corona encircling the moon, the prominences and the brilliant ruby red flare was worth the trip many times over. FYI, BVARCers Kirk Kendrick (KK2Z), Pete Sauermilch (KD5QPX), Nizar Mullani (KNM), Scott Medbury (KD5FBA), John Chauvin (K5IZO) and probably others made similar journeys. [BVARC] Reminder about missing ballots
I’m still waiting for mine. I remind all that have not received it by this Monday to ask ARRL (on Monday) to resend it (in accordance with previous communiques). ARRL will then send it by first class mail on Tuesday. Also I remind you to not vote twice (with the original ballot and the replacement). The ballots are kept in a lockbox by independent attorneys (or similar technique) and there apparently is a way for them to know if anyone voted twice and both ballots will be disqualified. [BVARC] Field Day Bow Out
Regretfully, like Big Al (N5XZ), I too have to bow out of Field Day for the same reason. Both my wife and I tested positive for COVID about 10-12 days ago. We eventually tested negative this past Sunday. I had both shots plus one booster so it was very mild. However I will still be in the quarantine period until this Sunday. I had signed up for some “graveyard shift” CW slots, but since removed them. Enjoy yourselves.
