Also i hope the blog tutorial will be extended to things which you
will commonly encouter.. like for example add saving / and retrieving
HABTM tags, and pagination and simple authorisation, logging allowing
acces to add and edit posts. Also it would be nice if it showed how to
deal with loading a different controller and use it's functions. Also
the use of blocks, helpers behaviours should be in it.

Why has this question not been addressed yet? It's an extremely
important question, IMHO, and deserves a salient response.

Well i hope we will be able to test read the docs and comment on it
soon.. as there is very little documentation about 1.2 at the moment :
( I hope there will be more ajax related stuff in it too, as with the
current docs there is not so much about it :(

I'm a new Cake 1.2 user who would be happy to contribute to the docs
in any way a n00b can--finding errors, fixing them where possible,
copyediting, prose-clarifying, or just generally raising hell. Please
let me know who I should contact (or, they may feel free to contact
me).

Hi John,

Just one question. What is it the licence and the Cake Software
Foundation policy regarding this new documentation, is it already
defined?

For that to work it would have to be pseudo complete. If you release
something which is more holes than substance that's no use to anybody.

But anyway, please people: don't distract John. Time spent by those
working on docs answering the group (for things that are already
planned and in motion) is not time well spent. Fresh ideas: cool; old
repetitive debates: bad. :)

cheers,

Re: The State of the Docs Address 2007

2007-06-20 Thread keymaster

It has been said on earlier "official" alpha releases that while the
API might still change and new features might still be added, what is
there is deemed to be pretty stable.

So, perhaps it is not such a bad idea to release what is available on
the 1.2 Docs using the same understanding. Call it alpha, say it can/
is changing.

But you will surely get input on mistakes in the docs and things you
can do better. Then, when 1.2 really goes beta/stable, your docs will
match.

If you hold the docs close to your chest until the very last minute
when 1.2 goes final, you will release alpha level docs for a "final"
product.

Perhaps it might be better to let the docs soak in the public as
alpha, solicit the bugs/feedback, and keep the docs in synch with the
status of the code.

I agree it wouldn't have made sense to do this earlier, but now - how
much is 1.2 really changing? Is it still really worth not releasing
the docs?

Re: The State of the Docs Address 2007

2007-06-19 Thread Divagater

Thanks for the update John. I look forward to seeing the 1.2 manual
when it is released.

I am pretty new to CakePHP and am developing my app on the 1.2.x.x
code base. To date there has not been a single problem that I could
not overcome by browsing this group, the api, or the Bakery. I
encourage folks who are stuck on something to ask questions. We all
benefit from the answers. The CakePHP community as a whole is a
walking, talking, manual :)

Cheers,
Billy

Please search this group for the many times I've said how much
caken00bs can contribute.

We need new eyes, people. They are the best at identifying weak
points in the content.

P.S. - And don't tell me you're too busy, because I'm busy too, and

Thanks for the info, it's greatly appreciated :-)

I'd love to be able to help out, but I dunno that I have anything to
contribute. I'm 2 weeks into Cake (I've tested it before, but never
attempted development until now), and I'm about as lost as most of the other
newbies out there, if not more :-)

if you have any tasks that a n00b can help with, let me know
