Yes, I liked the design of that site, so I tried to do something like that. Hi Rohman, That is a very nice site, well done. I am just starting with CakePHP so it is nice to see more and more results using it. The only thing I have noticed is that in FireFox 2.0 the pages seem to get cut off. Here is a screen shot. http://www.jmds.eu/images/roman.gif John - Original Message - From: ??? Uhm... seems that FireFox has some problems with my CSS styles... another friend told me the same, and could see the website correctly using an IE plug-in. Re: my little peace of Cake
Is not really dificult to do that effect, but takes sooo many time if you want to do it with some professional style. So I just used that Javascript library: http://orangoo.com/labs/GreyBox . Is pretty easy to use and you will save lot of time. If you want to do it manually, you should think on creating a DIV that takes all the explorer's size, give it some transparency/opacity style in some way you wish and load a picture inside it... the buttons to close and navigations is quite easy to do, just simple AJAX calls to update the DIV... but as I told you, it would take you some time, and also it could have some bugs or not look very professional, so if you don't mind using plug-ins, try that GreyBox. By the way, thanks for your comment, glad you like the site. Looks nice apart from the significant what-if-Im-not-using-IE background problem. Unless you are going to write about cake, you should probably move it on the ' Cake Apps/Sites In The Wild page' to Sites - before Mariano deletes it again. Anyway, I will see if I have time to solve that thing, but I designed it for IE, and is running well there. Thanks for the comment, glad you like the site ; ) Best Regards, I like the design, mate good job, I don't like the attitude though! why deisgn for only 50% of people? http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp - Firefox has a 30%+ share now, how can you ignore that? Plus, FireFox is a better browser than IE, lots of development places will use FF first and IE second (to check IE hasn't broken perfectly good pages), so any possible employers may well be put off by the fact your site doesn't display correctly. My advice would be to always design/build for the standards-compliant browsers (firefox, camino, safari etc) first, then move on to making specific IE only changes in IE only stylesheets (google IE conditional comment css). Another thing it's always worth doing (especially if you're looking for work) would be to validate your pages, get rid of these errors and you may find your css behaves better in FireFox. http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.rohmansama.com/registros Your CSS validates ok: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rohmansama.com%2Fregistroswarning=1profile=css21usermedium=all I would install the FireBug plugin for FireFox http://www.getfirebug.com/ and the web developer toolbar https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60 - combined these are a lifesaver! Sorry to sound down on your site, it's not how it's meant! cheers, Jon -- jon bennett t: +44 (0) 1225 341 039 w: http://www.jben.net/ iChat (AIM): jbendotnet Skype: jon-bennett --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Cake PHP group. Thanks for your replies. About why I didn't made it for FF... is not that i hate FF or something like that... just I only have IE on that computer... so I couldn't test it on FF, so I didn't know I had problems on that. If I have time I will try to solve that. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions and i'm glad you like the site. Rohman, Wow, that's beautiful. You only spend 2 weeks and created such an amazing site? You must have a strong background in php programming, right? I'm working on my little site. And it took a quite a while and I'm still on the planning stage. Only the register part of coding finished. So your story really encourages me to push it along. Thanks. Re: my little peace of Cake
Hello Haiyang, Thanks for your comment, i'm glad that you liked my site. Well, I had been coding website for around 9 years, most of them in PHP. Yes, it took me only 2 weeks, even there are still some little bugs to fix. About how to manage the languages... is quite easy... I have a PHP file for each language, with text variables on it... for example: english.php $lguser = 'User'; $lgname = 'Name: '; spanish.php $lguser = 'Usuario'; $lgname = 'Nombre: '; So in the views [ HTML ] i include the language file depending on the user's selection - ?php include($language); ? and instead of showing static text I use the variables on those language files... easy, right? ; ) Rohman http://www.rohmansama.com --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Cake PHP group. Re: my little peace of Cake
hey rohman, i had a look at the site and i think the problem with the background can be solved if you clear the float. put a br style=clear:both before the content wrapper div closes and you should be fine. greetings Patrik 浪漫様 wrote: Dear bakers, 1 week ago I finished my first Cake!!
