Re: [Carbon-dev] Deployment for some wild applications in AppServer

2011-03-26 Thread Afkham Azeez
Deploying any webapp on the AppServer shouldn't been an issue. There is a
possibility that data sources defined in the web.xml do not work; which is
something we are looking at.

On a side note, why does this single application consist of 85 wars? Isn't
there a design issue there?

Forgot to mention that in directory webapp there are 85 wars.

*Subject:* [Carbon-dev] Deployment for some wild applications in
 AppServer

 Hi,

I know all of you are busy recently and no time to response my early
questions. However, I have more questions now and would like to leave here
 as is.

In some cases, the applications are more complicated than the demos in
WSO2 AppServer. I don't know if there are easy ways to deploy them.

Here is such an example. Sakai is a LMS and 2011 GSOC. In the attached
figure, you can see the directory structure of the application, which
supposes to unzip in $CATALINA_HOME. In components directory, there are 60
components so that I couldn't show them in one figure. There are also some
other files such as sakai.properties, which have to be manually copied to a
 directory.

Is there any approach rule I can follow for such applications? Or simply I
can't deploy it to WSO2 AppServer w/o Tomcat.

Another question is: is there a future plan for setting application
parameters, such as startup Java parameters, in management console?

 Thanks,

 Xue-Feng

Folks, we need to first review all L1s and L2s for all products. This review
should be done by product teams.

There could be L1's which are L2's and L2s which are L1s. So reviewing and
prioritizing is important. But please do not lower ANY issues prioroty
without discussing with the issue creator. Upgrading issues without
discussing with the creator is fine.

Yes you are correct and there are 12 L1 issues. I believe there are 2 L1
issues that we are going to fix in the next release. ( The ones that state
the fix version as 4.0.0 and I believe here 4.0.0 means carbon 4.0.0 and not
G-Reg 4.0.0). Also there is a one that I missed because I was searching for
bugs and this one has been marked as a task. So I believe that leaves us
with 9 L1 issues (bugs) that needs to be fixed for this release. Also there
are 12 L2 issues including the 2 improvements you have mentioned. So I
believe we are left with 9 L1 issues and 10 L2 issues that needs to be fixed
prior to this release.

Please correct me if Im wrong.

 Hi Janaka,

Are the stats correct? I see that there are 12 L1 issues. But 6 are
related to docs. And, there are 12 L2 issues to be fixed. We need to fix all
 except the 2 L2 improvements for 4.0.0.

Those need to be corrected to 3.2.0, IMO, there is nothing that needs to be
postponed, I believe that it should be a mix-up. Please also fix the affects
version field in all JIRAs (You can do a bulk edit). QA team, please note
that we have platform version - 3.2.0 (and product version 4.0.0 for G-Reg,
etc.).

Thanks,
Senaka.

Also there is a one that I missed because I was searching for bugs and this
one has been marked as a task. So I believe that leaves us with 9 L1 issues
(bugs) that needs to be fixed for this release. Also there are 12 L2 issues
including the 2 improvements you have mentioned. So I believe we are left
with 9 L1 issues and 10 L2 issues that needs to be fixed prior to this
 release.

Please correct me if Im wrong.

 Thanks,
 Janaka

 Thanks,
 Senaka.

are about 10 L2 issues that also needs to be fixed.

Re: [Carbon-dev] Deployment for some wild applications in AppServer

2011-03-26 Thread Sanjiva Weerawarana
Xue-Feng, it should work by unzipping into the app server directory but if
you are asking whether the app server console can support such apps that's
difficult. Not impossible (we'd have to keep track of a lot of stuff) but
difficult. Also given that such apps can modify/replace server.xml even
really the idea of a shared app server deploying such apps makes little
sense. For example, if it has 85 wars then there's a good chance there will
be name conflicts.

It seems to me that Sakai should effectively ship with its own app server as
that's what the deployment requires. If their answer is we can run on any
app server then effectively they're asking for a specific instance of the
server for themselves .. and that is of course supported by AS as well.

Sanjiva.

On a side note, why does this single application consist of 85 wars? Isn't
 there a design issue there?

 Thanks,

 Xue-Feng
