[casper] MSSGE with ISE 14 compatible OS

2013-07-10 Thread Alex Zahn
Hi all,

A bit of a picky question:

The wiki mentions Ubuntu 12.04 and RHEL 6 as compatible with ISE 14. Does
anyone know of any other linuxes that have worked with ISE 14?

More specifically, has anyone tried with Ubuntu 13.04 or Fedora 18 or 19?

-Alex

Hi Alex,

Here at SKA-SA we have found that the most stable Ubuntu setup is with
Ubuntu 12.04, Xilinx 14.3 and Matlab 2012b.

Ubuntu 13.04 has been tried and we encountered issues with updating
designs. Although not much time has been spent trying to resolve these.

Please let us know your results.

[casper] Memory mapped kernel module backported to ROACH-1

2013-07-10 Thread Shanly Rajan
Dear All

I have added support for a memory mapped kernel module for ROACH-1.

*Advantages*:
Latest kernel support(Linux 3.10)
No BORPH
Performance benefit
*
Implications*:
Experimental(Let me know feedback to iron out bugs)

*Usage*:
Use it along with tcpborphserver3.
Telnet onto roach and use KATCP commands(progdev, listdev) to talk to FPGA.

*Source:*
*
*
https://github.com/ska-sa/roach2_linux
There is a working config file incase you struggle to build the kernel
image from the source on your own.

   - make 44x/roach_defconfig
   - make cuImage.roach

Re: [casper] MSSGE with ISE 14 compatible OS

2013-07-10 Thread Dan Werthimer
i recommend only using operating systems that
xilinx supports.

we've encountered very strange and very subtle problems when
using non xilinx supported operating systems -
eg; one problem we found, we didn't get any error messages,
but the FFT in our design didn't produce correct results when
computing FFT's over 2^12 points.
when we switched to a xilinx supported operating system (RHEL),
the exact same simulink design worked fine.

also, xilinx will not answer any questions if you are using
a non-supported operating system.

best wishes,

dan
