Buuut, this new candidate can be a good one. Let's go: 1) I suggest you start develop the HTML/DHTML code instead of drawing it. It's easier, cleaner, more beautiful and we finally can see how it will be. 2) The Catalyst logo is to small, it needs to be impressive, needs to be memorized by the visitor, it's beautiful, so show it! 3) The red/orange banner is too big, there is no needs, you are giving attraction to it instead of the logo or something that attracts to Catalyst. 4) There is NOTHING in the top. Oh! Tobias, to make your design more striking! can you try to switch the color on the banner where it says Turbo Charge your Perl Web devlopment! Make the backgroung White and the Logo and fonts in red ... or at least the logo in red and the font in anything that goes with it ! I believe this may make the design more striking ...which what i hope the new site aims for! On Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 9:52 AM, Ali M. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Tobias ... So the new desing should have a powered by catalyst button ... I know the new wiki will be ... One more thing I like about the grails site is that the design is really different! At least to me its like nothing i've seen before ... i will never confuse the grails site for another one So I think the new Catalyst site should aim for that too, to be really different ... for example Tobias site uses a very common and seen-before button for the download link, feels cheap to me (no offense) , so I guess we should work more on this too regards Ali On Tue, Jun 17, 2008 at 9:15 AM, Tobias Kremer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 17.06.2008, at 04:13, Kieren Diment wrote: On 17 Jun 2008, at 03:39, Jay K wrote: 6) http://www.funkreich.de/catalystorg.png I decided to review these again. Simon Elliott: (1) http://www.browsing.co.uk/cat This one looks the most professional, but the Catalyst logo is not big enough, and it have no spirit. I prefer site that look radically different. I have old eyes too, and strong lenses, so I'm all for good size clear fonts. It's also easier to read dark writing on a light background. Sites with important content in light writing on a dark background put me off, especially in fonts with thin, elegant strokes. I never have my browser window the full width of my screen. I want to be able to make use of whatever I'm seeing in the browser in some other window at the same time. So I get very annoyed by sites that are gratuitously wide and don't gracefully reshape if I change my browser width. I also get annoyed by sites that don't cope well if I increase the font size. Either bits of 'text' that don't change size (e.g. flash or images), or text that overlaps images or other text, or that forces the window wider. Finally, I quite often browse with Javascript off, so menus or search boxes that don't provide HTML fallback are irritating. I like this one best so far: http://catalyst.perl.org/ The submissions represent good work, and show potential. I prefer the original site because: - Best use of color - Use of fonts and layout keeps the eye from getting lost in the first second or so of viewing - Best navigation structure, especially over the leading contender http://www.browsing.co.uk/cat/, which I think will leave many people lost with the nav crammed into the upper corner where it might be easily overlooked for the bigger, more obvious content links below.
