[cayugabirds-l] Red Winged Black birds
This morning there are two Red Winged Blackbirds singing and exposing their red epaulets.Maybe the Groundhog was right. And the Rusty Blackbird is still coming to the Treman Bird Garden. Mary E. [cayugabirds-l] Lesser Black-backed Gull, Stevenson Road
A few gulls were attending the compost pile this morning, including (finally) a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, the first one I have seen there this season. The only other gull of interest was a Herring-type with a lot of white in the wingtips, tending toward Thayer's pattern. The head looked pretty flat and I believe it had a light eye, so I suspect it was just an atypical Herring Gull, but the wingtips had large white bars from above and appeared very frosty below as well, so it might be worth keeping an eye out for this bird. Unfortunately, the gulls on the hill reshuffled before I could study it long and I was unable to refind it before I had to go. [cayugabirds-l] American Tree Sparrows on the increase
Just thought it might be worth reporting that today I counted 42 American Tree Sparrows under and on my feeders, my highest count yet. And I still have around 30 Redpolls (including a Hoary or two or three) visiting daily, as well as the other usual feeder birds. [cayugabirds-l] Farmers Market Robins

[cayugabirds-l] Young TV feeding, and many RTHA at Game Farm
Yesterday, Wednesday, Feb 23 around noon, a young TV was having lunch near one of the game farm buildings, visible from Game Farm Rd. It faced us in bright sunlight, making it easy to see the grayish head without any discernable red. We couldn't see what it was eating, but watched it repeatedly mantle over the food to fend off several hopeful crows. Thirty-eight red-tailed hawks were perched on posts, nets, and the tree at the Game Farm; and more were in flight or perching in trees bordering the farm. There must have been 45 to 50 RTHA in total.
