Chuck (& all)I have only talked on the phone, but I believe their office is among the farm buildings, silos, etc, on the west side of the fairgrounds, on NYS-414 just north of Martin Rd, approximately opposite the end of County House Rd.--Dave NutterOn Apr 19, 2011, at 06:25 PM, chuck gibson wrote:

[cayugabirds-l] Chimney Swift

2011-04-19 Thread Dave Nutter
This afternoon I had to be in my car, yet I also had several hours to spare, so I succumbed to the attraction of Upland Sandpipers and Grasshopper Sparrows.  I found 2 UPLAND SANDPIPERS from Martin Rd, then with permission drove the roads within the fairgrounds and had better views of 4 of them.  I struck out on the Grasshopper Sparrows, perhaps because they were quieter later in the day, perhaps because I spent so much time inside the fairgrounds instead of listening longer from the road as Nathan et al did.  On my way home along NYS-89 at the corner of Vineyard Rd in Romulus I saw a single CHIMNEY SWIFT foraging among a flock of TREE SWALLOWS with a few BARN SWALLOWS.  I thought it was a basin first for the year until I consulted eBird and found that Ken Rosenberg had a Chimney Swift from his yard on April 11th.--Dave Nutter

[cayugabirds-l] Cornell Fish Crows

2011-04-19 Thread J. Gary Kohlenberg
Hi all,

I saw and heard my first Fish Crows at Cornell today. Two of them were mobbing
a Red-tail over Ives Hall.

At the swan pen this afternoon, in the rain, were a couple, crisp looking,
Yellow-rumped Warblers, three Palm Warblers and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. A Rusty
Blackbird was calling by the pump house in Jetty Woods along with a loudly
whistling Osprey overhead.

2011-04-19 Thread Nathan Williams
Agreed, please respect people's property! We just went along the public
paved road this morning and still had amazing looks at the Upland
Sandpipers, who were only a few feet from the road. One was standing
atop a roadside gatepost and provided excellent views as we drove by.
That said, since these birds are so close to the road sometimes, take
care not to stop too close and spook them.

Happy (and safe) birding!

Re: [cayugabirds-l] upland sandpipers

2011-04-19 Thread Nathan Williams
This morning, I went to the Seneca Empire Days Fairgrounds fields with
Gaelyn Ong, Abby Duvall, and Erica Roper. Highlights include 2 UPLAND
SANDPIPERS, 2 HORNED LARKS, an EASTERN MEADOWLARK, and 3 GRASSHOPPER
SPARROWS. A SNOW GOOSE also flew over in with a small flock of Canada
Geese.

Happy Birding!
