[cayugabirds-l] WHITE-EYED VIREO at Sapsucker Woods
Ken Rosenberg just (8am Sunday) reported that the WHITE-EYED VIREO is continuing at the Sherwood Platform, which is on the west side of the main pond, on the Wilson Trail at Sapsucker Woods. It was first found late Thursday afternoon by Garrett MacDonald in that vicinity and seen by only a couple other people, and not reported at all on Friday, so far as I know. Yesterday (Saturday) afternoon I re-found it/one there and sent out a rare-bird-alert, which enabled several other people to see the bird, although generally the bird was skulking in the thick bushes and providing only crummy-but-identifiable views. As Kevin noted, the original find did not get onto CayugaBirds-L promptly, and I apologize that I did not report to this listserve yesterday either. It is now difficult for me to do so from my phone, and I was late and distracted when I got home. --Dave Nutter -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Black capped YB Sapsucker
Found at Sapsucker Woods. I went on Linda Orkin's SSW /CBC bird walk this morning. We got several good looks at a YELLOW BELLIED SAPSUCKER with a BLACK cap on top of its head, rather than a reddish cap. It had all the other marks of a mature bird. No red at all. In woods south of main pond. Did not find Ken's White Eyed Vireo, altho we did find Ken right after he saw the Vireo. [cayugabirds-l] Fledglings!
Newly fledged Mourning Doves appeared in my driveway this morning. Brown Thrashers are singing again after a few days of silence, and I glimpsed some chasing. -Geo -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Lost camera at Swan Pen
This morning while birding at Stewart Park, I set my Canon SX50 camera down on the platform that extends out into the Swan Pen (very bad idea). Approx. 10:15 AM. I returned a couple of hours later to look for it, but it is not there. (Long story involving a flat tire about why I didn't realize it was missing until after noon). If anyone found the camera, I'd be grateful to get it back. email me offlist @ dianegmor...@gmail.com. Highlights of Stewart Park included one Palm Warbler, several Yellow-rumped Warblers and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. [cayugabirds-l] Need advice -nesting goose
Sitting on my beach, I just noticed a Canada Goose sitting in the top of a huge flower pot at the end of my neighbors' dock. I think it is on a nest of eggs, since walking above their place on the RR track these past weeks, I have seen a lot of noisy goose activity at the end of this long dock. The geese have also left a lot of poop too. The owners are definitely NOT bird people and will soon want to plant flowers in the 2 large pots and clean the dock. Is there any way the nest can be relocated? I will ask the neighbors not to chase away the goose till we explore some options. I doubt they will allow the goose to hatch the eggs unless it will happen pretty soon. Thanx for any help. Re: Re:[cayugabirds-l] Hawk Migration
On brief stops today at Mt Pleasant (11:34-11:48am) and Sandbank Rd (1:52-2:05pm) Ann Mitchell I saw 2 migrating BROAD-WINGED HAWKS at each location. One at Sandbank was remarkably low directly overhead, and quite a treat. The others were distant, and the first at Mt Pleasant (after a mere 6 minute wait) was powering north with a strong tailwind. --Dave Nutter On Apr 20, 2014, at 01:06 PM, Christopher T.
