[cayugabirds-l] Scissor-tailed Flycatcher continues in Candor, Tioga County
Adam Troyer reports that the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher continues at his family’s dairy farm at the end of TOMAK (also spelled TOMACK) Road in the town of Candor in Tioga County. It’s a spectacular bird. Wear muck boots, it’s usually near the pastured cows. - - Dave Nutter -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Scissor-tailed Flycatcher in Chenango County
Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher Today (yesterday Tuesday) just about 6 o'clock I received a call from Gail Benedict that she was looking at a Scissor-Tailed flycatcher. She was in a small cemetery in Pharsaalia. Go to Lower Cincinnatus, take the Brackle Rd.(Rte. 23) towards Norwich continue a few miles past The Brackle Bar Grill, the Pharsalia Cemetery will be on the left. The bird was very approachable mostly sitting on a wire fence on the far side of the cemetery. Also there is a pair of Bluebirds using a box in the back corner near where the Scissor-Tailed was hanging out. The bird was still there when we left about 7:30 PM. Here's the Facebook link to the photos: https://www.facebook.com/groups/CNYNaturalHistory/633497283418351/?notif_t=group_activity Great Find Gail! thanks, Matt Young -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER
The dregs of this tropical storm appear to have brought us more than rain- I was just shown a very clear cell-phone photo of a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER perched on a horizontal wire, said to have been taken just a few minutes ago on the grounds at Sterling House of Ithaca, which is on Bundy Rd just off 96, on the left on the way up to the hospital. It is a retirement community, I don't know anything about the situation for public access. --John Greenly -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
Re: [cayugabirds-l] SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER
That reminds me of a (slightly) funny story. Some years ago I had to go to Tulsa on business. I'd never been to that part of the country before, and really wanted to see a Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher (the state bird!). But I didn't see one, and I kept not seeing one, and was telling the cab driver about my frustration on the way to the airport; when —* mirabile dictu* — I finally saw one perched on the chain-link fence outside the airport. I got very excited, which made the cab driver protest, Hey lady, it's not like it's the Amazon! I feel like rushing all the way across town to see if I can see this striking bird. Enjoy him if you see him! Re: [cayugabirds-l] SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER
Didn't find a scissor tailed here but there is a wydah coming to the feeders, I think a pin-tailed wydah. Cool bird. Re: [cayugabirds-l] SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER
Ahah, a wydah?? cool indeed, but I think we can therefore safely rule out a scissor-tailed there too!! Hmmm, so, the provenance of the photo I was shown My friend said his wife took it and emailed it to him, but I bet she saw the bird, tried to identify it and came up with the scissor-tailed photo on some website and sent it to him, and he misunderstood where it came from. I'll see him again tomorrow and we'll find out for sure. --John On Sep 8, 2011, at 5:42 PM, Tim Lenz wrote: Didn't find a scissor tailed here but there is a wydah coming to the feeders, I think a pin-tailed wydah. Re: [cayugabirds-l] Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
I spent 2 1/2 hours today looking for the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher from about 8- 10:30. It was not seen by any of the people who had come to look, It was pretty laden with frost at arrival. Diana Whiting On Oct 25, 2009, at 8:01 PM, Matthew Medler wrote: Just a quick note for those who might be interested in looking for the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher in Savannah on Monday. The bird was still present when I left the area at 5:40 pm on Sunday evening (25 Oct 2009). David Wheeler was still watching it, hoping that Jim Pawlicki would arrive in time to catch a glimpse of it (which I think he did). During the time that I was there this afternoon, the bird ranged a considerable distance along the eastern end of Van Dyne Spoor Road. When I arrived, it was probably 3/5 to 3/4 of a mile west of the road's dead end, but at one point it flew east of the dead end and over the small canal into Cayuga County. At all times that I saw it, the bird was either perched on the power lines, or on vegetation on the south side of Van Dyne Spoor Road.
