[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Vol 2 Lab 1 Question 4.6

2009-09-09 Thread Nara Shikamaru
Am I missing something - 4.6 in this lab seems to be asking to have
international dialing active during business hours but the Proctor Guide's
solution seems to be setting up the international dialing to only work after
hours (the opposite). Is this an error?

Hi All,

I¹m stuggling with Vol2 Lab4 6.1 -- it looks like CUE AA --> BACD -->
VoiceHunt-group (you need parallel).

However I cannot get the last steps to work and re-reading the CME admin &
BACD docs ‹ it appears that BACD doesn¹t support voice hunt-groups ?

2009-09-09 Thread Thomas Koch
Matthew,

I use Safari press .$22.99 a month.10 books in the bookshelf at once plus 5
tokens a month to print PDF's

I printed the CCIE voice quick notes as well as used the online version.

I took CCIE voice written and used the quick reference sheets.I'm about 2
tests away from CCVP.

If you finished up CCVP you should have no trouble with Voice written.

Hope that helps..

Matthew,

A lot of people suggested the CCIE Voice Exam Quick Reference Sheets from
Cisco Press when I was taking the written. Since that exam hasn't been
updated I would suggest that as well. I think its about $20 and requires
Adobe Digital Editions since its only available as an e-Book. It covered a
lot of the areas I needed to be pointed in the right direction and I
recommend it too. It made the difference between a narrowly failed attempt

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Study Plan for CCIE Voice Written

2009-09-09 Thread Matthew Berry
Jeff,

Thanks for the quick response! I actually signed up for Safari Books Online
for $9.99. It's a great service that lets me "check out" five books a
time. I used it all the way through my CCVP and saved myself a lot of
money. For personal use, I will take a CiscoPress Shortcut and take
screenshots of each slide and paste them into PowerPoint. Voila, my own
reusable training materials. (Note: Not for distribution. Don't ask.)

I'm going to read through the shortcut along with the other material I have
on my desk. It now borders on 3000 pages. Yike! Well, I guess I didn't
get into this mess without having a love of reading and learning!

So my CCIE Voice Written is scheduled for the end of December.

Thanks!

2009-09-09 Thread Chris Parker
I would schedule the CCIE voice written ASAP if I were you. For me the
IE written felt like a little was taken from each of the VP exams. I
bet if you took the IE written now you'd have a very good chance of
passing just with your VP preparation fresh in your mind.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Vol 2 Lab 1 - CUBE and Gatekeepers

2009-09-09 Thread Nara Shikamaru
Narinder,
As a matter of practice, does it matter if we allow any kind of
connection to occur in voice service voip? If I'm setting this up in the
lab, why shouldn't I just set up "allow connection" between all of the
control protocols?

Also, while I'm at it, in the interest of saving time in the lab would
it be smarter to just copy and paste all of the the tftp-server syntax from
CME-7-0-full-readme-v.1.0.txt? That way, I can just focus on the SIP's TFTP
server syntax, which is like 5 lines I think?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] 7961 DEAD - anyone know how to bring them back to life

2009-09-09 Thread Nara Shikamaru
This has happened to me before. A phone got stuck in upgrading, I forgot to
unplug it before leaving the office, when I came back it finished
upgrading. Not exactly sure why this happens, sometimes if you give it a
lot of time it gets around to downloading the files. PROVIDED you've set up
the files to be able to be downloaded. Check your TFTP debug if this is CME
just in case.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Study Plan for CCIE Voice Written

2009-09-09 Thread Jeff Garvas

It made the difference between a narrowly failed attempt
and my eventual passing.

Stick to it. I wish I had taken mine closer to finishing the CCVP due to
the overlapping topics.

It is a RTU (Right to Use) license, which is mandatory for end users to
purchase.
There is no file/DLU to upload in router flash.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Volume 2 Lab 3 -PSTN - HQ - PLEASE HELP

2009-09-09 Thread R Sam
 Hi,

On page 64 of the proctor guide, we are told to globalize the calling number
for PSTN calls into HQ.

For local calls into HQ - 7 digit ANI,

Incoming Calling Party Subscriber Number Prefix is : +1212

When I call from the PSTN phone line 212-394-2123 to HQ PH 2 - 3945002 , I
see a +12122123942123 on HQ Ph 2.

The area code is showing up twice ?

Looking at the PSTN config;

voice translation-rule 1

rule 1 /^911$/ /\0/ type any unknown plan any unknown
rule 2 /^\(2123942123\)$/ /\1/ type any subscriber plan any isdn <--
causing the area code to show up twice ?
rule 3 /^6178632683$/ /\0/ type any national plan any isdn
rule 4 /^32141891$/ /34\0/ type any international plan any isdn
rule 5 /^6745738932$/ /91\0/ type any international plan any isdn
rule 6 /^9004522138$/ /\0/ type any national plan any isdn

I am not seeing the Calling Party Transformation Mask of 7 digits even
though it has been configured on page 67 ?

Calls from Boston shows +16178632683 - the 10 digit ANI as requested,

Calls from International shows +91674573892 -
the 011 Prefix (Calling Party TP) does not show up in the call or missed
call ?

I can't return the calls from HQ phones, not sure what has to be configured
on the pstn router ?

Everything before this part of the lab works fine.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Factory restore should do it, but also try:

1. Does the 61 have the AUX port you can plug in the modified serial
cable? Google search to make the cable and how to login.

2. Plug in a sniffer and see if the phone is sending packets out. You
can setup a TFTP server on your laptop and a DHCP server to force it to take a
software upgrade for what's it's looking for. TFTPD32 has a tftp server and a
dhcp server.

I've had to do #2 to a couple 7970's because they looked dead for a customer.
Actually, all their 7970's didn't take upgrades from their CCM 3.3 to 7.0 (yea
that big a jump) and just died like that. You might need to put an
intermittent (earlier) load on your PC/laptop DHCP/TFTP server.

Hi,

I was having issues bringing up my SIP phones and did a factory restore on one
of my 7961 phones and it ended up stuck at "upgrading", so I tried another set
of number sting after the "#" the screen is now competely blank.

So does anyone know of any other sting of button presses other than the factory
restore to bring it back to life?

Thanks,

As far as I know the API is proprietary. So stuff not in documentation you can
find on the Cisco web site or stuff that you gleem from TAC cases you probably
won’t find any more detailed information on. Don’t forget, most debug commands
(and CCM traces, etc.) are for Cisco developers to assist with tech support.
Stuff we end-users have learned or picked up, consider that gravy.

Some SIP debugs, for example and other standards based stuff you can find in
RFCs. But the CCAPI like I said is proprietary.

My mistake - iLBC of course. Anyway, know what the codec is and how/
why to invoke it (lossy link), but you don't have to actually invoke
it to know how it works unlike most of the other newer features.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] SIP firmware location and new lab setup

2009-09-09 Thread Nara Shikamaru
I have CME in my home lab too, I think it's a matter of getting used to it.
Once you shut off your phone ports to make sure nothing tries to connect
during setup, specify your loads and configurations in your
telephony-service and voice register global settings and already have the
correct SCCP and SIP firmware in your flash - you should be fine. I would
get used to flip-flopping phones between firmware loads in lab so that your
brain gets used to the process of reconfiguring (I suspect this may come in
handy if you make a wrong turn in the lab). Take notes and screenshots of
the process and remember that the Proctor Guide is usually correct but
sometimes can ommit a very salient point that may leave you stranded (just
got through that with my thread yesterday on CUBE that Narinder helped me
out with.)
