[OSL | CCIE_Voice] DSP Allocation

2012-10-03 Thread Steffen Bruening
Hi all,

I have a fractional PRI with MGCP (8 channels). When I look int sh voice
dsp group all I could see that 8 channels of dsp 5 are used. Maybe someone
can explain how the dsp allocation algorithm is working. I would like to
know why not dsp 1 will be used. Is there maybe an option that I could
decide which dsp should be used (a kind of preference)???

dsp 1:
  State: UP, firmware: 9.4.7
  Max signal/voice channel: 8/8
  Max credits: 160
  num_of_sig_chnls_allocated: -2
  Transcoding channels allocated: 0
  Group: FLEX_GROUP_VOICE, complexity: FLEX
Shared credits: 160, reserved credits: 0
Signaling channels allocated: 0
Voice channels allocated: 0
Credits used: 0

dsp 5:
  State: UP, firmware: 9.4.7
  Max signal/voice channel: 16/16
  Max credits: 240
  num_of_sig_chnls_allocated: 8
  Transcoding channels allocated: 0
  Group: FLEX_GROUP_VOICE, complexity: FLEX
Shared credits: 240, reserved credits: 0
Signaling channels allocated: 8
Voice channels allocated: 0
Credits used: 0

Hi Guy's,

This question is for anyone who has already taken the lab whether pass or
fail...

As a first timer during the lab as you progress in your configurations do the
questions/tasks piggy back each other or have you found scenario's where you
have to wipe out previous configs to get the next task completed?

The reason I ask is because I find myself doing this on the practice labs (not
often) and it concerned me how a proctor would grade tasks if they had to be
wiped out for another task towards the end of the lab.

Regards,

Hugo

Hugo,

I would recommend you spend the first 15 minutes reading through the exam and
identify questions that may influence others. At the end of exam how you
achieve a task is irrelevant. It's only the end result that matters

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] DSP Allocation

2012-10-03 Thread Dimuthu
DSP Sharing
Voice interfaces, by default, use DSPs local to the interface. For interface
cards resident in a network module, local DSPs are the DSPs located in PVDMs on
the network module. For interface cards resident in HWIC slots on the router
chassis, local DSPs are the DSPs located in PVDMs on the router motherboard.
Sometimes, it is necessary for voice interfaces to use DSPs that are not local
because all the local DSPs are busy with other tasks when a call arrives. When
a DSP is used that is not local, it is known as DSP sharing. This means that an
interface card in an HWIC slot uses a DSP on a network module, or an interface
card in a network module uses a DSP on another network module or on the router
motherboard

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Network infrastructure - framy relay

2012-10-03 Thread Dimuthu
Hi Sir,

To simulate frame-relay cloud either we can use a frame-relay simulator or a
cisco router can also do the same. (with sufficient serial / smart serial
interfaces for back-to-back connections. Same router can be used as PSTN
simulator ( ISDN PRI).

proctorlabs.com has all the details. Just check with them to get PSTN router
hw/sw configuration details.

2012-10-03 Thread Dimuthu
This cisco document is not wrong. It's for a live MoH feed ( which is already
port 2000 ) a backup flash file with same port.

In my practice using PL , I could hear MoH  (usually 2 different musics  for
CUCM Router by default ), I used ports 1638x.

If it's blocked you can use local router flash moh (under srst)

Steffen,

I saw that note as well and (erroneously or not) dismissed it. I go with 16384
in my lab tests and my gear is 100% in my lab. It works and, unless the IE lab
requirements state something that suggests using something different I plan to
stick with 16384.

For me it seems document is correct (no typos). We can configure different moh
live-feeds with unique media port numbers using voice moh-group number
command. Document Author seems referring to the live-feed with media port 2000
inside telephony-service configuration.
