Daniel,

First, let me touch on the most important point you have brought up:

> Honestly, it's really great to see how everyone came together, spoke loudly,
> and made a difference. Even if the decision isn't reversed, the past few days
> really demonstrated how dedicated and passionate everyone is to their field
> and hard-earned certifications.

Absolutely outstanding! Everyone has done a great job of keeping this topic on
Cisco's radar. Keep it up!

Second, I am at the PBT in SJC. Rowan mentioned the CCIE but it was just an
acknowledgement that our message has been received. The "right thing" comment
was actually made by another person (name escapes me). Rowan may have echoed
the sentiment but no guarantees/promises were made. This isn't bad news. All
feedback we have received thus far has been a positive trend in the right
direction. Even if it has been incremental.

So, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Cisco will want to close this
down as fast as possible. Whatever the answer is, we can all be satisfied that
we refused to roll over on this. Again, the volume of support within the
community is quite impressive. Don't back off the throttle now. Keep pushing,
stay on message, and (as always) be polite.

2013-06-05 Thread Bill Lake
This is the post on Cisco website.

https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-20968

I hope my argument helped and I want to thank all those that spent an equal
and thoughtful amount of time on this. Success only means we get a
reasonable path to migration and I believe this should be considered a
WIN/WIN for both Cisco and us.

Just released.

To all of our CCIE Voice professionals. Here is a statement from the Director
of Marketing at Learning@Cisco:

"We are listening to the feedback from our valued CCIE community, and will be
adjusting the CCIE Collaboration requirements. As a quick preview of the
evolution of the CCIE Collaboration certification, a current holder of the CCIE
Voice designation will now be able to migrate to a CCIE Collaboration
credential by taking the CCIE Collaboration written exam only. We appreciate
all of the great feedback and patience of the community while we update our
webpages to reflect this change. We will be communicating further details about
this modification as soon as possible."

This post was made on the Learning @ Cisco Facebook page:

"To all of our CCIE Voice professionals. Here is a statement from Fred

It seems the request for a migration path via written exam will be the way
forward.

So, once this petition reaches a solid number ( a thousand or more ), will
it be forwarded to Cisco team or will it be presented in printed form ? how
does this work from here onwards ?

Those who are going to Cisco Live this month will get chance to talk
in-person with many Cisco engineers/decision makers. Guys, please voice
community's concern & this announcement must must must be changed or a easy
transition path be provided.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Cisco: Provide a reasonable transition path from CCIE Voice to CCIE Collaboration

2013-05-31 Thread Suresh Bhandari
Even I have not got the number yet, but concerned because all my efforts
are coming to the dead-end of "already-retired" certification. I know that
some may say that knowledge is there. Fortunate if I got the number in
second attempt, unfortunate, after 6 months or so, my track becomes a
retired one.

I know that some, if not most, people are thinking whether they should give
a try a second/third/fourth or more times, or wait for new exam, just
because there is no proper way for transition. As already mentioned by
someone in this forum or somewhere, update for a CCIE exam is not another 8
hour CCIE exam itself.

So, thanks everyone for signing the petition. Hope our voice reaches the
Cisco decision making body, and at least consider to make some transition
wayout, if not grandfathering CCIE Voice to CCIE Collaboration.

2013-05-31 Thread VanBenschoten, Brian
I signed up
my take on it

To add on to a point that William Bell made about the evolution of the CCIE
tracks over time and how the written test provides the renewal.
I'd like to understand how the logic of ending the CCIE-V track works, when as
a R&S CCIE, I'm allowed to take *ANY* written CCIE exam to recertify every 2
years.
For the past 3 recertification's I've taken the voice written exam to maintain
my R&S CCIE. Cisco doesn't think any less of me as an R&S CCIE even though I
didn't take the R&S written.
I don't understand how they wouldn't consider my passing the new Collaboration
CCIE written to re-certify a voice CCIE. The logic just doesn't make sense.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Cisco: Provide a reasonable transition path from CCIE Voice to CCIE Collaboration

2013-05-31 Thread Somphol Boonjing
"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker
that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest."
-Adam Smith from The Wealth of Nations

I think the petition at change.org started by John Welsh is a great step in
the right direction for those who want to voice out their concern over the
decision to retire of CCIE Voice without making reasonable transition path
for the current CCIE Voice holder toward the new track..
https://www.change.org/petitions/cisco-provide-a-reasonable-transition-path-from-ccie-voice-to-ccie-collaboration

For those who thought this is not relevant to them and should only leave it
to the current CCIE Voice holder only, I want to mention that I am not a
CCIE Voice holder myself but I think there is no guarantee that if this
happens to CCIE Voice once, it won't happen again. It could happen
arbitrarily to any other track. And, one day it will happen to me too.
So, anyone who care about this, should help sign up the petition.

Of course, I think CCIE holder of any other track should care as well.
Because this "unprecedented" decision could very well be unjustly
applicable to any other track as well.

Another point I want to make it, we are a bit in the dark as per how the
decision is reached and which "fraction" within Cisco dominated the
decision making process. I think that it is probable that there will be a
minority camp within the decision maker who may need a bit of help from
outside to make the case (against the decision) stronger. So, with that,
the number is still important and would appreciate every one of those
signature for the petition.

One last point, in the spirit of the quote at the beginning, if anyone can
come up a vivid essay on Cisco stand to lose (from it own self-interest
perspective) and why it should care about it, that would be a big plus
moving forward.

Regards,
