[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral fellowship available for studies of adhesion in bacterial conjugation

2019-07-02 Thread Ronnie Berntsson
Dear all,

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in my group at Umeå University, Sweden
(https://www.biostruct.umu.se/principal-investigators/ronnie-berntsson/).
Our lab studies bacterial conjugation via Type 4 Secretion Systems, with a
special focus on gram-positive bacteria. The open position revolves around
understanding the structure and function of the adhesion proteins that
facilitate the cellular mating pair formation.

Our lab is part of the Integrated Structural Biology at Umeå University and is
fully equipped for biochemistry and structural biology, with on site access to
local facilities in x-ray crystallography (mosquito, RockImager, formulator
etc), electron microscopy (Titan Krios, Talos 120 kV, Scios Dual beam for
FIB-Milling).

We would like to recruit a postdoc with prior experience in protein
expression/purification, biochemistry and structure determination.

For full detail regarding the position and how to apply, please see
https://www.biostruct.umu.se/postdoc-position-available-in-the-berntsson-lab-study-of-adhesion-proteins-in-g-t4sss/

Best wishes,
Ronnie

[ccp4bb] Call open for LTP and BAG beamtime at DESY beamline P11, PETRA III, Deadline: 15.07.2019

2019-07-02 Thread Anja Burkhardt
Dear all,

Hereby I would like to invite the submission of Long-Term Projects (LTP) and
Block Allocation Group (BAG) proposals for DESY beamline P11 at the PETRA III
synchrotron in Hamburg.

The call is open until Monday, 15 July 2019 (inclusive; CEST/UTC+2) and relates
to beamtime to be allocated during the period 2020 (first half) - 2021 (second
half).
Detailed information, preparation guidelines and templates for LTP and BAG
proposals are provided here:
https://photon-science.desy.de/users_area/user_guide/select_the_proposal_type

Beamline P11 is dedicated to structural investigations of biological samples
from atomic to micrometer length scales and currently provides two experimental
endstations: an X-ray microscope (under construction) and a crystallography
experiment which is in user operation since 2013.

Specific features of the P11 crystallography endstation:
• High photon flux (1.3 × 10^13 ph/s at 12 keV) at the sample position
• Broad energy range from 5.5 - 26 keV
• Full SAD/MAD capability
• High-precision single axis goniostat
• Fast data collection via Pilatus 6M detector (25 Hz frame rate, 154 –
2000 mm sample-to-detector distance)
• Fast automatic sample changer (20 s) with uni-puck compatibility and 368
sample storage capacity
• Cryo-shutter for crystal annealing
• Beam size tunability from 4 × 9 µm² (microfocus) to 300 × 300 µm² (flat
beam) within a minute
• Microbeam capability (4 × 9 µm² focal spot with 1.3 × 10^13 ph/s photon
flux and 1 × 1 µm² with 2 × 10^11 ph/s)
• Serial synchrotron crystallography using liquid sample delivery like
(tape-drive setup) and fixed targets (microporous Si-chips)
• Parallel beam option for large unit cell systems
• Data collection via Python-based GUI
• Automated data processing with XDSAPP
• 40 core workgroup server for fast data processing
• S2 level laboratory for sample preparation

For detailed information about our experimental setup please visit our homepage
http://photon-science.desy.de/facilities/petra_iii/beamlines/p11_bio_imaging_and_diffraction

On behalf of the P11 team,
Anja Burkhardt

[ccp4bb] CCP4mg trouble making movies

2019-07-02 Thread Anastassis Perrakis
Dear all,

I am having some trouble with ccp4mg 2.10.10 and making movies on a Mac running
OSX 10.13.6

I am trying now for a test a single-scene movie of 2sec “rock”. The movie
previews fine.
When I “make movie” the scene directory and the frames are created, and I get a
window telling me:
“For movie test / Converting frames to scene movie / and merging scene movies”
However, nothing is happening - no files and my CPU is blissfully idle.

Any hints/clues?

Thanks,

Tassos

2019-07-02 Thread Reddiravikumar Kumar
Dear all,

We are trying to install stereo in Wincoot in windows 10 pro,
64 bit computer. We have installed nvidia quadro K4000 graphics driver in
our system. The stereo is working well with Pymol, but keep crashing on
Wincoot. Can you anyone experienced the same issue and how can I fix this
issue?

Thanks,
Ravikumar.

Re: [ccp4bb] CCP4mg trouble making movies

2019-07-02 Thread Jon Agirre
Hi Tassos,

can you try a standalone CCP4 installation? I seem to recall ffmpeg was
missing from the regular CCP4 distro and therefore that bit didn’t work.

Cheers
Jon

[ccp4bb] wincoot recovering sessions

2019-07-02 Thread Filip Van Petegem
Hello all,

using some large maps, my Wincoot likes to crash every now and then. I'd
like to be able to recover the various maps and models I have open
simultaneously, without having to read in everything again from scratch to
get the same parameters.

Has anybody had any luck using the 'recover session' in Wincoot? I just
get the 'there's nothing to recover' message.

Other than the obvious comment of switching to Linux or Mac, I'd be curious
to see if anybody has been able to restore sessions in Wincoot, or has
found another workaround for having to re-read and re-adjust everything.

best regards,

Filip Van Petegem

[ccp4bb] Postdoctoral positions available on protein misfolding in Atlanta, GA

2019-07-02 Thread Lieberman, Raquel L
The Lieberman lab in the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Georgia
Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA invites applications for Postdoctoral
Fellows.
Our research projects focus on molecular aspects of protein misfolding in one
of two systems related to human disease. Our interdisciplinary lab combines
biochemical, biophysical, and cell biology methods with structural biology
approaches (X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray or neutron scattering,
NMR, cryoEM). We seek to better understand what differentiates diseased
proteins from their wild-type counterparts, and use this information to develop
new diagnostics and therapies. More information is available on our website
http://ww2.chemistry.gatech.edu/lieberman/.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in life sciences, chemistry, biological
physics, and related fields. Hands-on expertise and publication record in any
(but not all!) of the following areas is also required: protein biochemistry
(e.g. enzyme, binding assays, membrane proteins), biophysics (e.g.
spectroscopy, kinetics of aggregation, AFM imaging), cell biology (e.g.
mammalian cell culture, Western blotting), or structural biology (e.g.
crystallography, SAXS, SEC-MALS, NMR). Experience with molecular biology,
protein expression and purification are also desirable.
To be considered for a position, please send an email to Raquel Lieberman,
raquel.lieber...@chemistry.gatech.edu.
Include your curriculum vitae as well as a short cover letter describing
research experience, and why you think you would be a good fit for our research
team.
Georgia Institute of Technology is a top public university in the USA located
in the urban heart of Atlanta, GA. Georgia Tech is committed to recruiting,
developing, retaining, and engaging a diverse cadre of students, faculty, and
staff with a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, interests, and talents.
