BerliOS outages
Hi all, during the past few days, we observe availability problems with all BerliOS services. This is related to hardware problems in the central NFS server which is a donation from HP. This server currently dies about 2x each day :-( Since yesterday, it seems that the observed failure has become stable which means it repeats on each failure. From what I can tell now, it looks like a broken power supply or a bad solder point on the main board or on CPU board #1. I hope that we are able to fix the problem soon, but I cannot yet give an exact timeline. For the future, please be prepared that as long as the HW problem has not been fully identified and fixed, we are unable to reboot the machine in question outside the office hours as I need to unplug the mains cord in order to reset the panic logic inside the power supply in order to be able to switch it on again. If a downtime happens during the office hours, I will be able to reboot the machine within approx. 15 minutes. Also, if you don't have a PTR record for your visible IP address, many FTP servers will reject you. I don't know whether ftp.berlios.de is one of these, but on several occasions in the past, I've had better results by ssh'ing from work to my DSL box at home, obtaining files on the DSL box, and then sending them back to myself at work. (The NAT setup at work doesn't have a valid PTR record for its external IP address!) I personally look forward to the death of FTP. I hate that protocol with a passion. But that's a rant for a different mailing list :)

Fixating time:0.002s cdrecord-prodvd: fifo had 1095 puts and 73 gets. cdrecord-prodvd: fifo was 0 times empty and 8 times full, min fill was 99%. Note that with dev=ATAPI: you will never get DMA and writing is s slow. Also for that point, I have read the doc, but didn't find any info on what I should put instaed, anyone could give me the answer?
