Any time I attempt to reach it through a web browser, using squid as
a proxy, I can't do it. Apparently it doesn't like squid's anonymous
logins, or default password, or something. But then it works fine if
I use a normal FTP client. In fact, it's working right now.

Many people have problems because their sysadmin did set up a broken

BerliOS outages

2004-04-21 Thread Joerg Schilling
Hi all,

during the past few days, we observe availability
problems with all BerliOS services.

This is related to hardware problems in the central NFS server
which is a donation from HP. This server currently dies about
2x each day :-(

Since yesterday, it seems that the observed failure has become
stable which means it repeats on each failure. From what I can
tell now, it looks like a broken power supply or a bad solder point
on the main board or on CPU board #1. I hope that we are able to
fix the problem soon, but I cannot yet give an exact timeline.

For the future, please be prepared that as long as the HW problem
has not been fully identified and fixed, we are unable to reboot
the machine in question outside the office hours as I need to
unplug the mains cord in order to reset the panic logic inside the
power supply in order to be able to switch it on again.

If a downtime happens during the office hours, I will be able to
reboot the machine within approx. 15 minutes.

Any time I attempt to reach it through a web browser, using squid as
a proxy, I can't do it. Apparently it doesn't like squid's anonymous
logins, or default password, or something. But then it works fine if
I use a normal FTP client. In fact, it's working right now.

Also, if you don't have a PTR record for your visible IP address, many
FTP servers will reject you. I don't know whether ftp.berlios.de is one
of these, but on several occasions in the past, I've had better results
by ssh'ing from work to my DSL box at home, obtaining files on the
DSL box, and then sending them back to myself at work. (The NAT setup
at work doesn't have a valid PTR record for its external IP address!)

I personally look forward to the death of FTP. I hate that protocol
with a passion. But that's a rant for a different mailing list :)

What should I do to use the DVD+R and become a maximum DVD video

Well, not a success:

I mean without the -dry-run? It seems it don't do anything with it...
In my /data/dvd/vdrsync I got the VIDEO_TS dir.

 #!/bin/tcsh

 setenv SIZE `mkisofs -dvd-video -f -q -print-size -V $1 $2`
 setenv CDR_SECURITY 8:d ...

As you might have noticed another user can't even to btc()... Is there
any data on which firmwares support this? A.

I believe the 1008 requires 0256 or later; Dave Woodward has 0557,
same as I do, so it should be fine. The 1004 requires firmware 0050 or
later.
