I got the I/O Magic idvdrw4db from Tigerdirect . I get to find out that its
a BTC drive. Windows show my drive as ID string DVDRW IDE 1004, firmware
0039. It would not write at more than 1X
dispite all the diffrent media (pine -+r , etc) or software ( nero 6+ ,
easycreator 6+ copytodvd 3+)
I/O magic web tech support sucks . I finally got the BTC firmware (4X
DRW1004IM IDE V047) works fine. Copy at 4X with all media and software .

The drive that I just got a week ago from TigerDirect is a

I appreciate the additional info. I picked the drive up on the
condition that the retailer will take it back within 30 days as long as
all the contents are returned. I am permitted to try it out.

I installed the drive, but cdrecord --scanbus does not see it. I see
the following in the boot log though:

hdd: GENERIC DVD DUAL 4xMax, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
.
.
hdd: attached ide-cdrom driver
hdd: ATAPI 40X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW drive, 8192kB Cache
There's also a cd burner at /dev/hdc which is identified by cdrecord
--scanbus

If I use 'dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/hdd' with a blank dvd-r in the drive, I
do get a host of information, including identification of a blank disk
in the drive.

How do I get to the id string?

Not all together sure. That's the number on the box. As you might
expect it says it will work with Windows XP/2000/ME/98SE.

More info off the box:
interface type: E-ide/ATAPI
It lists a host of different transfer rates for everything from 24x cd-r
to 12x dvd.

Writing methods: Disc-at-Once, Track-at-Once, Multi-Session, Packet
Writing (variable & fixed).

Supports a number of formats as well.
Comes with: WinDVD, Pinnacle Expression, Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD SE
I figured this info might help determine if this thing should work with
cdrecord-prodvd. It may not. :(

Any DVD- writer with correct firmware will do.
No way to determine that without purchasing and trying it out I would
guess. Has a good price, so I figured I'd see if it would work before I
purchased. Doesn't matter how good the price is if it requires Windows,
windows free here...

Is there anyway I can determine the firmware without having the drive
installed? Specs from the manufacturer maybe?

I couldn't locate supported hardware info for cdrecord-prodvd. Does
anyone know if this drive will work?

Well, starting a few months ago, there is soo much really new hardware
that it may be impossible.
Understood. I've looked a number of places, but not found anything that
would indicate that any I/O Magic dvd burners are supported.

Looking to possibly purchase a dvd burner. I/O Magic DVD +-RW/+-R Dual
Format 4x DVD ReWritable drive. Number off the box is IDVDRW4DB

I couldn't locate supported hardware info for cdrecord-prodvd. Does
anyone know if this drive will work?

Thanks.
