From webalizer.conf.sample # The GeoIP option enables or disables the use of geolocation # services provided by the GeoIP library (http://www.maxmind.com), #GeoIP no # GeoIPDatabase specifies an alternate database filename to use by the # GeoIP library. If an absolute path is not given as part of the name #GeoIPDatabase /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIP.dat It works only, if it is compiled in, of course. When I rebuild the centos-release rpm I actually modify it so that a new version of the rpm overwrites any existing .repo files. Ah, I see now why you are doing this, I wasn't aware that the release package contains those .repo files. *However*, as I said earlier (and unless you use different filenames for your local repo) the new centos-release will *not* overwrite your existing CentOS-Base.repo file etc. So, if this is your concern: this is not a problem. [CentOS] Best way to extend pv partition for LVM
I've replaced disks in a hardware RAID 1 with larger disks and enlarged the array. Now I have to find a way to tell LVM about the extra space. It seems there are two ways: 1. delete partition with fdisk and recreate a larger one. This is obviously a bit tricky if you do not want to lose data, I haven't investigated further yet. 2. create another partition on the disk, pvcreate another pv and then add it to the existing volume group with vgextend 3. a possible third way: increase the partition size. According to Google most if not all disk tools want to resize a file system as well and since there is no file system they will fail. I'm not sure about the status with this for the tools that come with CentOS (fdisk, parted, other?) No. 2 seems to be the easy way. Any objections? One I thought of: What does happen when I use No. 2 and I add new lvs? Can it happen that new lvs get spanned over both pvs or can I assure that a pv gets created using only one of the pvs? (I would prefer the latter, it doesn't matter if I use a few MB because of the ineffectiveness of allocation.) Thanks for recommendations. Michael Klinosky wrote on Sat, 29 Jan 2011 22:33:50 -0500: I'm setting up a computer that will run 'CentOS 6 server'. Sure about that? This is your first experience with CentOS/RHEL? But, I can't find any reference to this chip. I can't tell you either. I think the support for this is coming from dmraid. A search for this should reveal more for you. Such drivers are usually not compiled in the kernel at all, maybe in the 2.4 days, there are various methods to use them as a kernel module. In general, people recommend using normal software RAID if you have only a fakeraid controller. And, a second in general, if you want to find something out about CentOS, looking at kernel.org or for recent kernels won't help too much. I suggest you first read a bit about CentOS on www.centos.org before you make your OS choice. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to discourage you, but you should *know* what you get, you shouldn't assume. Re: [CentOS] py-yaml complaints from yum
It's not a good idea to have all these repo's enabled at the same time and without protectbase or priorities. There's likely a conflict because of this. And it makes debugging now more complex. Try yum clean metadata and if that doesn't help try running with a higher debug level. Maybe an update wants to replace that package, somehow breaking the dependency. Also, remove that i386 version. Also, as you ripped out a tiny part from the yum output that doesn't give much information either, not even the full versions of the packages that get processed. [CentOS] i386 packages on fresh x86_64 system

Some questions are answered here: http://www.goitworld.com/rhelcentos-x86_64-and-i386-packages-mess/ but I have these remaining: - can I tell via kickstart to just install the 64bit packages? - is it safe to rpm -e remove all i386 packages? Re: [CentOS] replace x86 with x64 system and reuse existing LVM
I've done this now and the procedure is fairly easy and very safe. I did a test run with VMs first, of course. You don't need to vgchange/vgexport etc. These changes do not carry over, anyway. A new system will find all volumes and make them active. But this doesn't matter. For a kickstart installation you simply change the previously used disk config lines a bit, like this: partition /boot --fstype ext3 --onpart=sda1 partition pv.2 --onpart=sda2 volgroup dom0 --noformat pv.2 logvol swap --name=swap --vgname=dom0 --noformat logvol / --fstype ext3 --name=root --vgname=dom0 --useexisting This reuses sda1 for /boot, sda2 for the volume group, an lv swap for swap without a reformat and an lv root for /, reformatting it. For an installation on real partitions only you use only the --onpart command. Hope this helps someone in the future. Re: [CentOS] replace x86 with x64 system and reuse existing LVM
Answering here to all three replies, and thanks for all of them! I think it should have been clear from my wording that I want to install from scratch and wipe the existing OS. I do not want to dualboot or save anything (or much) from the existing OS. I just want to reuse the existing LVM structure with all the existing guests and wasn't sure if this would be easily provided by the install wizard or if I needed to do something special. Or if I should just install via kickstart reusing the original kickstart file with slightly altered options (e.g. don't create volumes, just format the correct ones - which might be a tricky and easily mistaken one). So, as I understand, a normal install with the custom disk layout option should be able to reuse the LVM as I want it, right? Thanks.
