HI, I'm applying for a position. I have to take a typing speed test.. this is the 1st position I've ever applied for that requested this. Is this common? My typing speed sucks..well because I never learned to touch type..but it hasn't hindered my work in the past. I have never had to type somebody else words..so I don't see the relivance to doing programming. Can anybody suggest a good and quick way to increase my typing speed in a few days? You could outsource the spot? I'm MIDish level(2 years in offices + 3 years as hobby/consulting) and 50k would not get me to move to NY heck depending on benifits I may not even consider telecommuting for 50k. I would think 50k in NY for midlevel sounds rather low but maybe I am off...I would expect atleast 55k maybe more depending on cost of living in neihboring cities I looked at Cost of living in Manhatten and its saying I would have to expect atleast $70k to consider.. A friend of mine was a manager at Best Buy (mid level store) in Ohio and made 45k + bonuses which ussually got him to 50k by the end of the year. However if you figured his hourly wage it was pretty low b/c he ussually averaged 50-55 hours /week. If you offered my 50k to telecommute I would give my notice today. Where have all the CF developers gone? The only people I have applying for this position have almost no experience. On the rare occassions someone walks through the door who is at about the right level they want to be paid the earth - if I wanted to pay $60-70k I could easily hire a very senior developers (which seem to be easier to find too!). All we want are 2 solid developers with 2-3 years experience. RE: Where are all the mid-level CF developers?
I dunno, that's tough. I work as a mid-level/senior level (4yrs exp.) CF developer here on long island and my salary is closer to 65/70 and I'm getting a ton of benefits and vacation time. The consulting firm we bring in to hepl from time to time had an opening a few months back and they tried a lower base (55ish I believe) and they had trouble filling the spot. They eventually killed the position and hired a recent grad to train themselves at a lower starting base. So, that might be an idea for you if you have enough senior level guys to oversee their work. RE: The State of Programming in the United States?
My thoughts are that we will need alot more USA based technical project managers to interact between offshore programmers and onshore management... -Original Message- From: David Simcik [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, October 18, 2004 4:09 PM To: CF-Jobs-Talk Subject: The State of Programming in the United States? Hi, I read a truly scary article on the Christian Science Monitor last week that stated rather matter-a-factly that the American programmer was about to become as extinct as the dinosaur because of foreign competition. As people that are in the know, at least as far as Cold Fusion development is concerned, do you think this position is true? If so, what are you doing about it? If not, why is it different? I must admit as someone that has been doing Cold Fusion/Java development for close to 7 years now that I was pretty darn frightened by what I read and there doesn't seem to be a whole heck of a lot going on for programmers on sites like Monster.com, etc either. Tell me what you think -- I'm all ears. Kind Regards, DTS [Todays Threads] [This Message] [Subscription] [Fast Unsubscribe] [User Settings] [Donations and Support]
