I wrote it. It requires CFREGISTRY to be turned on. It directly adds the
required entires to the registry to "register" a CFX tag.

So... if you can use CFREGISTRY, you can add them yourself. Of course... you
should probably be expected to be kicked off their systems if they find out
you've done that. :-) But it might be possible.

There is a custom tag that is called CFMAGICCOOKIE that allows you to use a
cookie and a cflocation together. I've used it in a very limited basis with
success. I have no idea how robust it would be.

RE: CFX Tags

2000-10-13 Thread Hatton Humphrey

Neil,

I had to use the tag I mentioned because, while the host I use was
willing to add the CFX I needed for my site, they never did it. I
requested the addition a month and a half before I needed it. It
never got added, and in desperation, I had to resort to "circumventing
the system".

I agree that if a host does not allow CFX tags then other programming
should be implemented.

Hello and sorry for the OT post. I can't figure out

Fair enough. But where to find the on-line enrollment
process? No link or nothing. Before I get too flamey

does anyone know where to begin here, or can direct me

costs a heckuva lot more. Thawte has not responded to
phone calls or emails.

Any help greatly apprecated.

SOT: Distrubuted apps and time zones

2000-10-13 Thread Max Paperno

Hi all,

Please forgive the somewhat off topic post. I'm looking for some resources about how
to manage time zone differences across a distributed server application. I was under
the impression that the "best" way to do this is to set all the servers to the same
time zone, ideally GMT or UTC. This is unrelated to what the final user of the
application sees in terms of time -- I'm only concerned about internal system
processes at this point. In our case, the Web/CF server is on EST, the DB server is
on CST, one partner with whom we exchange data is on MST, and another is on PST.

I have a person, who works for my client, who insists that the "correct" way to do it
is to keep the local time on each server, and have the application make the necessary
adjustments, which I think is absurd due to the fact that we have this application
working across 4 time zones and the servers move around all the time (and some are not
even in our control). Since states make the daylight savings switch on their own
schedules, and some don't make it at all, I think the maintenance on such a system
would be a nightmare, if not impossible.

Anyway, I'm looking for a resource to back up my position or to explain to me why the
other guy is right. Web and/or printed resources would be great.

Thanks!
-Max

RE: How to display Value and Label from listbox

2000-10-13 Thread Jann VanOver

I've done this type of thing using Javascript on the originating page:
(BTW: I'm not sure that fieldname.text is valid outside of IE.)

  function saveValue(valNum) {
  document.form[0].regionEmail.value =
document.form[0].region.options[valNum].text;
  }

RE: Eliminate duplicates??

Yes - use the "Group" attribute of

First make sure your list is ordered by the field you want to group by
(OrderID) and then

   #OrderID#

This will output each unique OrderID just once

I bet it would have taken less time for you to have read the post for

You can't view headers in the HTML source... You can view source
and the tag may still be there, but that doesn't mean
anything about which of the two headers in question actually
got sent to the browser.

Not all browsers pay attention to the META HTTP-EQUIV tags. Some
web servers turn those in to regular headers that the browser will
pay attention to. I think the answer to the original question
would depend on what browser you are using and how your web server
is configured. I think you'll just have to try it.

SQL syntax, solaris and FOXPRO

2000-10-13 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello Everyone,

!Please help!!!

I have a foxpro database on a solaris machine. I need to do a join between
two tables. However, I can't use query1.abc and query2.xyz. It doesn't
like anything with a dot in the middle for designation.

Does anyone know what syntax works for SQL Query using CF 4.5.1 (Solaris)
and Foxpro v3.0 ODBC connection for a statement like this:

SELECT pohdr.po_number, pohdr.vend_name, pohdr.vendor_id, pohdr.po_amount,
pohdr.org_po_dt, pohdr.pay_term, pohdr.ship_to_nm, pohdr.ord_status,
podtl.itm_glmoco, podtl.ln_sta, podtl.ln_no, podtl.prom_dock
FROM pohdr, podtl

#where#
order by pohdr.po_number

When I test on my server with NT installation of cf 4.5.1, it works fine but
not on the client solaris server. Do I need to create index tables? Any
suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Nehal

HTTP headers created with CFHEADER will generally override their META
equivalents, if they differ. However, in some cases, you might want to use
both. For example, if your content will pass through a proxy server, that
server might strip the HTTP headers from your server instead of passing them
to the browser.

vs.

2000-10-13 Thread pan

If there is a

with same var-pair as a

Which one will take precendence?
The one that appears first in the script,
or the last of the same name?

Does an actual http header cause a meta to
be ignored?

If the version is present can the
 version be deleted?

In short, are tags sufficient unto themselves
without any need for similiarly constructed tags?

I don't think any particular server/client session would
need both and for the same response
coding, but I'm thinking that some search engines would be
looking for

and ignore

This would also be germane to anti-cacheing work.

RE: ODBC Error: ?!? What in the world ?!?

ODBC drivers will sometimes call system procedures in order to check on the
databases' capabilities, etc.It does look like a driver bug - I'd
contact Allaire, assuming you're using the driver provided with CF.

I am so baffled?! I never called this stored procedure. This bit of SQL has
run thousands of times successfully. What does this mean? Is it some nearly

Re: ODBC Error: ?!? What in the world ?!?

2000-10-13 Thread Peter Theobald

Oddly, I checked in my Sybase server and "sp_server_info" is a standard system stored
procedure. But "Sp_SeRvEr_InFo" is not.

I am so baffled?! I never called this stored procedure. This bit of SQL has run
thousands of times successfully. What does this mean? Is it some nearly random call
coded inside the Merant ODBC driver written by an NT programmer that doesn't realize
Sybase is case sensitive?

ODBC Error: ?!? What in the world ?!?

2000-10-13 Thread Peter Theobald

I have a small bit of SQL that runs in a loop. It runs
successfully several hundred times and then I get this bizarre
error:

ODBC Error Code = 37000 (Syntax error or access violation)

[MERANT][ODBC Sybase driver][SQL Server]Stored procedure 'Sp_SeRvEr_InFo'
not found. Specify owner.objectname or use sp_help to check whether the
object exists (sp_help may produce lots of output).

SQL = "delete from QLangLabels where labelname='ADNationalPressYN'
and language='de' and EventArea='MEWE'"

You can see from the SQL that it is a simple statement deleting one
record. I never call any Stored Procedure. I do not have any Triggers. I
never even *heard* of the stored procedure
"Sp_SeRvEr_InFo".

RE: CF Script

2000-10-13 Thread Jann VanOver

One difference that I know of is that if you use CFSWITCH in a CFSCRIPT
block you MUST put a "break" a the end of each case. The CFSCRIPT version
of "switch" will fall through and execute all code unless you break.

RE: how can I create MSWORD or RTF file in CF

2000-10-13 Thread Wayne E. Pfeffer

your going to want to use RTF. the easiest way to create an RTF file on the
fly is to first create the template in word, save it as RTF and then view it
in CF Studio (or some other text editor). replace the areas in the template
with dynamic code where necessary and you should have it. mind you, i make
sound easier than it necessarily is, but that's the basis of the whole
thing.

Re: Certification Study Guide

2000-10-13 Thread Sima . Lee

Hi Hong,

While I agree with you that it isn't an easy one, but I might not agree on
that any one without a year solid Cold Fusion experience could not make it.

I, myself passed it two weeks ago with six and a half months cold fusion
experience. Of course without my C++, VB, and other programming experience
I might not get it in such a short time.

Before taking Allaire's exam, I tried Brainbench, Cfsopt and some other
tests. Believe or not I almost got the same score in all these tests. This
does not mean that if you pass the tests in other sites you can pass
Allaire's. It all depends the questions in the tests.

I would say Allaire's exam is the best and hardest one. It tests your
programming knowledge and skill not your memory. The scores I lost in
Allaire are some basic knowledge like HTML related ones and some thing so
basic I saw it on my screen everyday but never pay attention to. As for
those questions regarding to arrays, structures, loops , error handling,
they are not a problem for me, because they have the same logic with other
programming language. The scores I lost in the other sites' tests are those
attributes of the tags, I really can't remember them. This is because I rely
too much on online help when I programming, also because I only have half
year experience in Cold Fusion.

I also agree with you that to pass Allaire's exam, one must have a sound
understand of Cold Fusion and some real time programming experience. I also
agree that to get a score above 90% is not a easy job. Like you with full
confidence, I still did not reach it.

To those who are preparing the test I would suggest that dowload the study
guide from Allaire site and follow it. Pay extra attention to those
loops ,arrays, structures, customer tags, error handling. Also pay
attention to SQL statement, the where, order by , group by, I got a
lot of questions on those things.
 Good luck!

Sima

I took and passed the exam last week. It was a bit hard, given my 2+
extensive cold fusion dev. experience.
Things you need to be careful are sections on custom tags, the different
modes of custom tags, and I don't know why they put up a question on
CFUPDATE, it's an outdated tag.

Though fully confident, I merely passed the exam, which I have to be
suspecious on the accuracy of the exam. Does anyone out there share
similar experience besides me?

Thanks and good luck! Read Forta's 2 books and Allaire's reference manual.
I don't think anyone without a one year solid experience can pass the exam.

RE: TO ALL: Request for ColdFusion SP2 Input

2000-10-13 Thread Peter Theobald

Ah! CFHTTP queries! A big item for my personal the wish list:

CFHTTP has the useful ability to take data from a URL and turn it into a query that
you can then manipulate as any query.

1) CFHTTP interprets the data as a comma separated list (CSV) to turn it into a query.
*BUT* it does NOT correctly interpret Microsoft Excel's "format" of CSV files, which
in my experience is the source of 100% of the CSV files I use. This makes CFHTTP
useless for reading Excel CSV files :-( .
Specifically, Excel does NOT put quotes around fields without commas, Excel DOES put
quotes around fields with embedded commas (to protect them from being interpreted as
field separators). CFHTTP will choke on this format. Either ALL of the fields must
have quotes or NONE of them (CF V4.5.1)

2) I often need to allow users to upload a file and interpret it as a query. Ie: my
users keep administrative data in spreadsheets and upload it to make bulk changes to
the database. I *rarely* need to make a query out of a URL on another site. However
this query functionality is built into CFHTTP only. So I have to upload the file to a
web-accessible place (being careful with naming so multiple users don't clobber each
other) and then in a second step retrieve it from my own web site with CFHTTP. These
two steps shouldn't be needed. I'd like CFFILE or some other function to be able to
make a query directly out of a file!

RE: Banner Exchange SP2 or 5.0?

2000-10-13 Thread Jaime Garza

Thanks. You are Clapton! It is the piece I had missing in my puzzle. But
there is more...

I have been researching how to upload/retrieve images stored in a blob in
the DB (i.e. An employee picture belongs with the employee record.)

Today I have to go thru files. CFFILE ACTION=UPLOAD seems to be the only
interface to the attached files. And now CFCONTENT seems to be the way to
download. Both require the use of a file. This is somewhat inneficient.
Upload to a file, write to the db, delete the file, and then download the
reverse way.

If this is true, Allaire guys (hint hint): Colud there be a way to add
upload to the ? Could there be a way to add DOWNLOAD to the
? or "Column" attribute to ? or variable to
(so I can send a binvar)? That way I do not have to deal with
the darn duplicated filenames!

As far as I can tell, you can only pass data to a COM object if that object
can cast it to the correct data from a string. Many COM objects use
datatypes that can be automatically converted from strings. You're going to
have a heck of a time passing arrays, though.

If you're not worried about performance issues, you can write a wrapper for
your COM object, which will handle the conversion for you. I've done this
before. I've never done it where the object is expecting an array, though.

Alternatively, you might consider simply rewriting your COM object to accept
the values you can pass from CF. You can add additional interfaces, and
leave the current interface intact, if you are already using your COM object
in other places.

This is a known "feature". You cannot set a cookie and then cflocation in
the same template. You need to use an alternate method of sending the user

For some reason, the cflocation tag is run before the cfcookie tag is

I took and passed the exam last week. It was a bit hard, given my 2+ extensive cold
fusion dev. experience.
Things you need to be careful are sections on custom tags, the different modes of
custom tags, and I don't know why they put up a question on CFUPDATE, it's an outdated
tag.

Though fully confident, I merely passed the exam, which I have to be suspecious on the
accuracy of the exam. Does anyone out there share similar experience besides me?

Thanks and good luck! Read Forta's 2 books and Allaire's reference manual. I don't
think anyone without a one year solid experience can pass the exam.

Two possibilities. One DOES NOT work, the other just might.

I.

The one where I do what you suggest (CFHEADER) does not work then it comes
to sending the jpeg to the user:

#Image#

This fails in the #Image#. Cold fusion refuses to send anything but text.
I tried encoding in base64 to no avail.

II.
I have not tried, but I suspect a CFLOCATION could do the job. Maybe.

By the way, if someone knows a work around for case I. above, it would be a
great addition to my arsenal.

My experience has been nothing but positive with WinCVS it is
a very well designed client :)

No need on possibly dampening other peoples opinons
just because of a little difficulty.
It works really nicely it just takes a little
reading and documentation to set it up.

Pad out each octet with 0's. 206.168.47.6 => 206.168.047.006. Create
another field in the table used just for sorting if you don't want to modify
the original field. These should sort correctly.

Wanted to do the same thing, final workaround was to use a new cfdirectory
for each desired file type, then the display shows each group. Not elegant
but it does get the info.

hey Ed,

I think this guy wanted to know if the user had things like MS Project or
Visio on their machines. The HTTP_ACCEPT variable only tells the server
about things that appropriate to browsers, things like Real, Quicktime,
Flash and what not. Yes or no?

RE: Session Variable vs Application.cfm Opinions

2000-10-13 Thread Rees, Mark (TWIi London)

No-one else has answered so for what it's worth here's what I've heard:

Session variables don't work well in a server farm as they are specific to
the given server. So if you have some kind of load balancing going on
whereby clients are served pages from different servers depending on how
busy each one is, that will be negated as the session will tie each client
to one server.

Even if this isn't an issue at the moment, how scalable do you want your
site to be?

Hi,

I am currently making some enhancements to our latest project,
www.yourorganiser.com.au, and I've run into a question I thought I'd throw
out to the list...

Once a user logs on, I store some of their preferences as session variables.
We also support affiliates, which can load different images and frame pages
depending on where they
come from, I am also storing the paths to the images as session.variables.

How 'safe' are session variables?

I started to wonder whether it would be any better/worse if I added code to
the application.cfm file to read the preferences/affiliate settings so they
are available as local
variables on each page. I realise there will be database read overheads...

I was simply curious to hear if anyone had any problems relying on session
variables at all.

Thanks

Nick

Obscure CFObject-COM Question

2000-10-13 Thread Simon Horwith

Has anyone here ever tried using a call to a postscript printer driver or
pdf printer driver from a COM Object and received an error saying something
like "Could not get printer defaults" before? I'm banging my head against
the wall here.

RE: Main differences between CFMODULE and a custom tag

2000-10-13 Thread Evan Lavidor

According to Allaire, CFMODULE is also faster than calling CF_tagname,
because it (the CF server) doesn't have to search through the directory tree
of custom tags for your file. Instead, you're telling it where the file is
located.

It is now http://www.cfm-resources.com/a/aljcompserv/

Hopefully this will help everyone and we can end this thread. Also Pablo is

RE: Main differences between CFMODULE and a custom tag

2000-10-13 Thread Jones, Matt

you can call custom tags with cfmodule, you pass the attributes the same way
as you would with cf_, and you can do end tags with cfmodule
we have found cfmodule to be extremely useful for identifying exactly which
tag we are intending to call. By specifying the template, rather than name,
you don't get caught in any type of custom tag hierarchy problems. It also
doesn't take much to change

Why would you use a cfmodule over a custom tag, or a tag over
a module? Both allow you to store shared code in a separate
file, and then call that code and send it arguments. Maybe
they are almost the same thing? Thanks for any help.

I think SQL Server has some additional stuff you can use as
shortcuts. Every outer join I've done in Access has also worked in
SQL though.

Here is a simple basic syntax:

SELECT M.Main_Category_ID,M.Main_Category,
C.Category_ID,C.Category
FROM Main_Categories M LEFT OUTER JOIN Categories C
ON M.Main_Category_ID = C.Main_Category_ID
ORDER BY Main_Category,M.Main_Category_ID,Category

And one a little more complex that joins 4 tables.

SELECT Co.Country_ID,Country,Resume_ID
FROM ((Countries Co LEFT OUTER JOIN Resumes R ON Co.Country_ID = R.Country_ID)
LEFT OUTER JOIN categories CA on R.category_id = CA.category_id)
LEFT OUTER JOIN Main_categories M on Ca.Main_category_id = M.Main_category_id
WHERE R.Category_ID = CA.Category_ID and Ca.Main_Category_ID =
M.Main_Category_ID and M.Main_Category_ID = #main#

Main differences between CFMODULE and a custom tag

2000-10-13 Thread Ryan

Why would you use a cfmodule over a custom tag, or a tag over
a module? Both allow you to store shared code in a separate
file, and then call that code and send it arguments. Maybe
they are almost the same thing? Thanks for any help.

clustercats and planned downtime

2000-10-13 Thread mherbene

When I need to take a server down for a significant period of time and
possible multiple reboots, I'd like to tell clustercats that a machine is
down and that its IP address should be assumed by other cluster members
until told otherwise. I want to prevent any traffic from coming to the
machine that's down without having to make DNS changes.

Anyone know how, or if it's even possible?

thanks
