Re: (Admin) Machine move

2001-09-30 Thread Tony Schreiber

The TTL is the Time-To-Live of the DNS information from your DNS servers,
it means how long the information remains valid before the DNS server
requesting the info will consider old and request new info. If you drop
your TTL's to like 60 minutes a few days before the move, then name
servers around the net will start to have the 60 min TTL's in cache and
request a new ip within an hour. Essentially, once the move takes place,
you'd only have an hour of time with old ip info around the net. Once the
move is complete, change your TTL back to 24 hours or whatever your
default value is...

If you're relying on cookies to implement session variables, then there are
a lot of ways that cookies can be blocked or otherwise not passed from
server to client or vise versa. Hardware firewalls, software firewalls,
proxy servers, browser settings are a few. Then there are issues at the
server end... clustering, load balancing.

I have a question semi related. I am studying CF while I finish up school
and was getting into how an e-commerce site works in terms of sessions and
what not. In an e-commerce site, is it best to not use cookies at all? What
is a good approach to an e-commerce site?

Points of failure for session variables

2001-09-30 Thread howard

Of course I've used system variables several times in the past, but never in
an application where their proper functioning is absolutely necessary, until
now.

The application I'm building now relies heavily on session variables and
will fail if variables are not properly passed.

Of course, I'm using CFLock around all session variables (both read and
write).

Besides that, I'm wondering are their other problems to look and plan for?
Is it possible that session variables will not work with some clients? If
so, under what conditions. How do you plan for such possible failures?

I just want to do my best to cover all of the bases here.

RE: Using CFLoop to delete from an Array 2

2001-09-30 Thread howard

OK,

Now that I've got the multiple deletes from the array working (thanks, guys)
.. I've got a problem when every element in the array is deleted (an option
a user could conceivably take).

There is later on the page, of course, code that assumes there is going to
be information in the array to read. If everything in the array is deleted,
then there's an error.

The obvious thing to do is set up some sort of conditional to find that the
array has been cleared of all items, but I'm having trouble finding the
right syntax.

I've tried things like:

the array is empty

And variations of other conditional tests and I repeatedly get this error
message:

"The element at position 1 in dimension 1 of object "session.cart" cannot
be found.
The object has elements in positions 1 through 1. Please, modify the index
expression.

So I've run out of ideas to try to catch this now empty array and through up
some appropriate HTML.

Re: Unexpected query results

2001-09-30 Thread Hanz Zarcovic

Sure can you reference 4 tables in your from clause and in your where clause
you are only joining 2 of the tables :
  > u.user_id *= dn.user_id
So all the tables that you didn't restrict in your join are build you a
cartesian join. To avoid this kind of error use the ANSI JOIN sytax. I
tried to write an example for you below but I didn't have all the
information to really fill it out, but you should get the idea.

 u.last_nm,

 c.dataType,

 g.goal_nb
FROM
 tblUsers u,
INNER JOIN
 tblDailyNumbers dn ON u.user_id = dn.user_id
INNER JOIN
 tblGoals g ON g. = __.___
INNER JOIN
 tblcategories c ON c. = ___._
WHERE
 DatePart("mm", dn.date_dt) = 9 AND
 DatePart("yy", dn.date_dt) = 2001

GROUP BY u.last_nm,

(Admin) Machine move

2001-09-30 Thread Michael Dinowitz

CFHosting.com, a major supporter of the House of Fusion lists and the host of our box
will be moving said box to a new location (with higher bandwidth). This will result in
an outage of mail for a few hours today (Sunday Sept. 30) and will probably result in
some small DNS problems in the next 2 or 3 days as it propagates.

That's what I was trying to do with the ListSort() function.

I think what you are describing is a common problem.
The problem is that when you start your loop the array is 7 elements long,
you delete the first and the array is now only 6 long , but your loop still
thinks the array has 7 items.

The trick is to loop in reverse, from the end of your array *down to* the
first item. This way you are never trying to delete an item that dosen't
exist.

Hope this helps.

Using CFLoop to delete from an Array

2001-09-30 Thread howard

I have a form that will allow users to randomly select items to remove from
a form. All of the items in the form are an Array of Structures.

By clicking "remove" the number of the array position is identified. More
than remove checkbox can be checked. They can be checked in any order.

Currently, if only one item is check and the submit button is clicked, the
item is removed from the Array without a problem.

The problem comes in when there is an attempt to remove two or more items
simultaneously.

An error such as this is displayed:

"ArrayDeleteAt(Array, Position): Cannot delete element at position 7.
The array has only 6 elements.

"The error occurred while evaluating the expression:
#ArrayDeleteAt(session.cart, i)#"

I've tried various ways to get this to work, so as sorting the array (which
didn't work because the first element isn't a simple variable), and trying
to get the cfloop to remove the bottom item before the top item. That isn't
working.

Below is my current code, but my question is ... how can I loop through the
array and remove all of the items I want?

Current Code:

#ListSort(form.remove, "numeric", "desc")#

#ArrayDeleteAt(session.cart, i)#
#ArrayResize(session.cart, 1)#

cf to excel display issue

2001-09-30 Thread Janine Jakim

I have set up an excel sheet to show results of a search. I also want to
add another search- when the field is null or X. The query works, however,
it does not show up correctly on the excel sheet.
1. The excel sheet does not line the nulls under the correct headings. No
matter where on the sheet the nulls are, the excel sheet fills in the nulls
as if they were at the begining and then leaves half drawn spreadsheat at
the end.
For example:
If I wanted the following to show

Heading1Heading2Heading3Heading4Heading5
Heading6
A B C (Null) (Null) D

it shows up like:
Heading1Heading2Heading3Heading4Heading5
Heading6
(Null) (Null)

So I think it's like a list- filling in/not having any blanks. So I'm not
quite sure how to get it to display correctly.
I hope I've made this clear- I'm finding it difficult to explain.
Is there a good way to do what I want to do?

It is also possible to write:

#name#

The single quotes is equivalent to DE(). I'm not sure if this is any
faster. Overall though, IIF always seems to be incredibly slow.

This all assumes that Form.Name is always defined, I am guessing you have a
cfparam towards the top of the page for that, like so:

Thanks Jon.

Reason I had to get a "cover up" as it was preventing things working for
registered members. I'm working on the proper fix now to stop it causing
the erroneous tags.

I imagine you are pulling your list from a database and using the query of a
cfoutput, just add this code to it.

#name#

there is a way to do it in one line with iif() but I can't remember that one
right off.

Re: OT - Email Server Software?

2001-09-30 Thread Matt Robertson

There are also HKSI's Classic templates: just install the things
(dirt-simple) add a generic logo and go. More customization if you want, or
not. One of my most satisfying server s/w purchases: dirt cheap, no brains
required and nicely elegant. My customers love 'em... so much so that when I
asked if an upgrade to the very nice Killer ver was OK they unanimously
voted to stick with the Classics.

Insofar as Imail is concerned, it seems as if its a product geared towards
ease of administration for an ISP with lots of domains/users -- stellar on
that front, both for the ISP admin and domain admin. Big lists and mass
mailings can bog it down (s-l-o-w, but not stop), so if mass-capacity is
important be avised. Also the current ver seems to still have some kinks
after a recent upgrade.

Delivering files with CFCONTENT

2001-09-30 Thread Allan Pichler

Hi all,

I'm building a webmail client right now, and i can't seem to get the attachment part
right. For some reason my tag that prompts the user to save/open doesn't
accept all extension.

The case in point is a .psd file, but my mail client should be able to handle any
extension.

Right now the TYPE is set to "application/*" but i have also tried to set it to
"unknown".

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Best wishes

I use iMail 7 which has been great so far. It has plenty of command line
executable that you can use to do all kinds of stuff in CF like create
domains, add and modify users etc. The webmail system it comes with is very
nice and robust, and yes we use the humankind systems' classic web templates
which go for like $100 (best $100 I have ever spent).
