No your right, not until Netscape 6 was readonly and disabled
introduced, whereas IE as supported it since version 4.0

There is a way to get around this though :)

Well, you could do something like this in your pages.

Then in your incHeader.cfm, put something like this.

If you define "variables.JavaHeader", it'll include it, if not it won't.

RE: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error on Win2k

2002-03-10 Thread David Clover

One solution is to get a new machine which does boot, and temporarily hook
this drive up as an additional slave to the IDE - and see whether you can
'see' it as a drive from the first one. At least you might be able to rescue
some data from it that way.

Re[2]: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error on Win2k

2002-03-10 Thread Jim Priest

If it's IDE then you might also try to pop the drive into an
existing box with a current, working Win2000 installation.

If the drive is really OK you should be able to access the drive and
copy/backup the data on it. But if the power supply managed to take
out your MB, then I'd probably be questioning the drives at this point
as well.

WOT: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error on Win2k

2002-03-10 Thread David Grabbe

Hello all,

This is not even remotely a CF question :) but the contributors to
this list have a broad range of experience, so I'm hoping somebody has run
into this before and has a solution.

One of our older Win2k machines went down -- the m-board is fried
(bad power supply) but the HD seems to be OK. I tried hooking up the old HD
with a new m-board/processor. When I try to boot up, Windows starts going
through its normal boot sequence, but then always "blue-screens" with a STOP
error message that says "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". I've gleaned enough
from MSDN to know that Win2k doesn't like it when there is a radical
hardware change (i.e. different motherboard and proc), but their suggestion
to "reinstall Windows" isn't an option at this point. Has anyone run into
this before? Any solutions?

Greatly appreciative,
David

RE: 401.3 Unauthorized: Unauthorized due to ACL on resource

2002-03-10 Thread David Clover

Though nobody offered anything on this - I've now discovered that the
IUSR_servername account was not listed as a user of the z:\cfusion folders -
and now I've run CACLS through the folders and added it, all is well. It's
not at all clear how it happened - it may have been during a file restore
after we rebuilt the server. We'd rebuilt the IUSR account too - so it had a
different sid from the one stored on the backup databases which we restored.

Subject: 401.3 Unauthorized: Unauthorized due to ACL on resource

I have upgraded a server to CF 5 - it's an IIS4 server on NT 4 with the
August 2001 IIS 4 security roll up installed. The NT server is running SP 6a

Documents publish OK with extension .htm. I have declared the extension
default.cfm, index.cfm in the IIS MMC console as valid. (see
http://robots.open.ac.uk for an 'index.htm' and then see
http://cci.open.ac.uk for an example failure - the .htm sidebar appears -
but the .cfm body which is referenced in the frameset. See also
http://computing.open.ac.uk/home/ which has an index.cfm as the root page)

All documents have at least read access to account IUSR_servername. IIS4
is set up to work with anonymous access only.

However, whenever I try address a document .cfm using a web browser, I
receive:

401.3 Unauthorized: Unauthorized due to ACL on resource

All the CF services are reported as running normally in the Service
Manager. I am baffled as to where the security problem lies.

Can anyone advise? The vexing part is that initially, it all worked
absolutely fine. I can't even seem to get at the Cold Fusion Administrator
page now.

With many thanks if you can help!

RE: OT: my own box

2002-03-10 Thread Eric J Hoffman

Just on a pragmatic note, there is no web server software or OS that is
inherently 100% secure. All take due diligence to create a safe
environment. Website Pro over IIS? Cool. IIS over Website Pro? Cool.
Linux over M$? Cool. M$ over Linux? Cool. Just do your homework securing
it and the server, simply turning off IIS does not win much of a
battle...having worked in security I can tell you that IIS is well
publicized because its M$, which has pros and cons. Its these other systems
that have holes that are not as well publicized that worried us some as most
sysadmins would miss notices and alerts. We know you'll be diligent, of
course!! ;-)

(BTW, this is not a OS/software war, folks)

My best advice is DON'T, if you can possibly help it. I personally
disable IIS before my machines ever get connected to the Internet.

Website Pro is the way to go. The time you'll save not having to
spend checking for and installing security updates will pay for it in
no time. Plus it let's me sleep at night.
