Ever have trouble with Client Variables changing?

2003-11-21 Thread Brrrian
I have a Client variable that I set as True of False... it is changing on me.

For example once a page loads I dump the client variable list and I can see
that it is set False...  I Click on something reloads the page and it has
switched to True.  But not Always.  is very Odd.   The Only place
where
does not appear...

To DeBug this I have written a
Module:#Client.VariableName#
into each module called when the PageClick runs...

It is changed sometimes... but not always...  I'm going CRAZY trying to
figure this out.

??   Anyone?

thanks,
Brian

If you're in IE/Win and are prevented from running any ActiveX Controls
then you cannot see any SWF content, because that browser uses ActiveX
Controls as an extension mechanism.

I suspect your IT group may have blocked the installation of new ActiveX
Controls, but from what you wrote, the above is the easiest way to get the
Exchange to "not work".

If the description was incorrect, and further troubleshooting is needed,
then I know that the ColdFusion Exchange is functioning for me. It uses
Flash Remoting for data-loading, so difficulties with binary transfers can
affect the display. It would be good to check on what changed since the
Exchange last worked normally on that system... if the symptom appeared
just a few days ago you can check with your local system administrators
about any changes to data transfers or for local damage to your own setup.
If it never worked correctly on that box then the troubleshooting path
would be different... best approached by expanding the baseline and then
contracting it... the usual "one or all?" kinds of tests.

I did a search on "site:macromedia.com omniture" and learned that we use
Omniture software internally for web traffic analysis:
http://www.macromedia.com/macromedia.hr/reqs/engineering/pw0029.html

I then checked my Mozilla Cookie Manager to see if I had a cookie from the
Omniture site itself, but unfortunately didn't do this until after I
visited the Omniture site itself, with the result that I can't guarantee
that there's no web-bug anywhere on the Macromedia site which is hosted on
the Omniture site. (I can't restart Mozilla at the moment to test this.)
I'd be surprised if the maker of the software analysis tools had any reason
to look at the Exchange, but at the moment I cannot prove this is not the
case, sorry.

According to their webpage, Omniture is just a data collection company that

Foremost, of course, advertisers do abuse them.

However, there are plenty of other problems with popups, as they're
implemented by browsers. We're used to new windows in desktop GUIs, but
popups don't behave the same way - they're not modal (typically), they're
easily lost behind the main window with one errant click. Layers are a much
better way to do the same thing, usually, I think.

Interesting. I did install Win2k SP3 on my local box and it did, in
fact, give me the same results as on the remotely hosted server.

What apparently was tripping me up was the in the query.
I had:

  SELECT ApptTime, ApptLength
  FROM Reservations
  WHERE EventID = #eventID#
  AND ApptTime =

Changing the cfsqltype to "CF_SQL_TIME" fixed the problem and gave me
the correct results on both servers.

Thanks, Bryan, for guiding me through this.

They are probably storing the content for the page in a database and then
calling the content based on the variable in the URL string.

I have been surveying some sites trying to figure out different
techniques begin used.  I have come across several sites which only seem
to specify an index.cfm page passing a url parameter to display very
different content (table structures etc).  How is this being done?  An
example site of a site doing this is http://www.hahnel.ie/index.cfm ,
http://www.hahnel.ie/index.cfm?action=""> ,
http://www.hahnel.ie/index.cfm?action=""> .

By selecting any of the menu items to the left it appears the same page
is being loaded but different tables structures and text are being
generated.  How is this being done?  Does each action include another
.cfm file or what?

John

Yep, that's exactly how it's done. Take a look at fusebox (www.fusebox.org)

Not in Cold Fusion, no.  Possibly in _javascript_, and probably only in IE
at that point.

I'd recommend against it.  Users hate it when their keyboards don't work
as expected from one page to another.

Having some strange Java/CF issues.

2003-11-21 Thread Bailey, Neal
Hey guys...

Having some strange Java/CF issues...

I downloaded this _javascript_ from http://www.dhtmlcentral.com
  called SlideMenu2. I am trying to implement
it into my site but I am having this issue with little "?s" appearing next
to everything. I am using CF 6.1 and just now noticed that it seems to work
fine on a CF 5 server. In the files I am sending there are ex1.cfm, ex1.html
and ex1.asp files for this menu, copy them to a dir and see if you have the
same problem. They are exactly the same but the .cfm version displays the
"?s" next to every thing. The others work fine on the same server. But if
you change the file extension to .cfm then gets messed up.

I am very inexperienced at _javascript_ in general so I was hoping someone
with more experience could give me an idea of what's wrong. I tried to
e-mail and post to the forums where I got the script but I have had no
replies, I figure this is probably a CF issue anyway and you folks would
probably be much better help.

getURL(url, "_blank") or getURL(url, existingWindowName) should do it.

But I always wonder, why is it that everyone supposedly hates popups? I
don't. I mean, the whole GUI paradigm is based on them, surely?. Or is it
just that advertisers abuse them?

That regex does not take into account email addresses with a quoted
literal as the local part, i.e. "me myself and I"@mydomain is a valid
address. Also, it should force the match to be the entire string, so
start the regex with a ^ and end it with a $.

As Steven said, you can check the format, but not for the validity of
the account. Format checking can get very crazy if you try to allow
for every possible format. I chose to validate for a common format
like [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

function iswellformedemail(email) {
    if (refindnocase("^['_a-z0-9-]+(\.[_a-z0-9-]+)[EMAIL PROTECTED](\.[a-z0-9-]+)*\.([a-z]{2,})$",arguments[1])) {
return true;

return false;

The best way to test is to run it through the same steps that it would
be ran through if it was actually used. The question is how far you
want to take it.

First (easy) step is to validate that it is syntactically correct.
Google for a regex or build one of of RFC 2822.

Second step is to see if the domain exists. There are several tags
available to do DNS lookups.

Third step would be to see if there is something listening on port 25
of the designated mail server. Simply telnet to it and you will see.

Fourth step would be to verify the email address at the server. That
is what the command VRFY is for. But since it is used by spammers, you
might just as well start an actual transaction like a real MTA and
abort after the RCPT TO.

Fifth step would be to send an email.

There are some fancy RegEx's to validate emails as well. You could probably

Have you tried the simpler approach of escaping all characters with
unicode equivalents?

http://cflib.org/udf.cfm?ID=405

If that doesn't suit your needs, maybe something like this (untested):

emailaddr="[EMAIL PROTECTED]";
initlen=len(emailaddr);
maskedemailaddr="";
for(i=1; i lte initlen; i=i+1){
    thischar=left(emailaddr,1);
    if(thischar neq ".")){thisimage=thischar;}else{thisimage="period";}
    maskedemailaddr=maskedemailaddr&'
    emailaddr=right(emailaddr,(len(emailaddr)-1));
}
writeoutput(maskedemailaddr);

Not sure what other characters besides periods are illegal as file
names...

Store 'maskedemailaddr' in your database (if you are using one) so
you're not running this code per page request. Variable scopes would
speed things up if running this per request.

No need to loop, just do a regex replace:
REReplaceNoCase(email,".","","All")

Of course you need to have the images xax.gif, xbx.gif, ..., x.x.gif
and [EMAIL PROTECTED] somewhere. The extra x'es are required because some
filesystems break when you start a filename with a . or a @, and you
need to force a lowercase on case-sensitive filesystems.

Subject: Web Service Error

I'm getting the following error when I try to call a web service from a client of ours:

Could not perform web service invocation "dataFromCC3" because AxisFault faultCode: {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}Server.userException faultSubcode: faultString: java.lang.Exception: 0: An Error occured attempting to call procedure -- Unknown error occured in applyValuesToStatement: null faultActor: faultNode: faultDetail: {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}stackTrace: java.lang.Exception: 0: An Error occured attempting to call procedure -- Unknown error occured in applyValuesToStatement: null at com.xxx.xxx.services.AMMOService.dataFromCC3(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:324) at org.apache.axis.providers.java.RPCProvider.invokeMethod(RPCProvider.java:372) at org.apache.axis.providers.java.RPCProvider.processMessage(RPCProvider.java:292) at org.apache.axis.providers.java.JavaProvid...

I have no idea what this means. There are several other services that we call from our client, but all of them pass information back to us. The error above is for a service where we pass data to them. They're using Java and, of course, we're using cf.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks Steve for this. It works! Am I right to say that only the embedded frame refreshes and not the entire page?

Re: AntiSpam Technique: Output to images instead of text

2003-11-21 Thread Michael Dinowitz
Nice idea if you plan to have the end user type the email address they see into
a message but if your using a mailto: link, the address will still be there for
spammers to capture.
That being said, you can either use CFX_Image to generate the text graphic on
the fly or have a library of images for letters and write (or find in the tag
gallery) a way to translate. A fast loop would do it.

Re: Clearing Trusted Cache in CF 5

2003-11-21 Thread Doug White
Only if your site has very rare changes.

With trusted cache off, a new change will have a minor delay the first time it
is invoked while it compiles, and from then on, it will load just as well as if
TC was turned on.

I was searching for the Link which discusses this extensively, but am running
against a deadline, and don't have the time to look it up.

AntiSpam Technique: Output to images instead of text

2003-11-21 Thread David Adams
Does anyone know if there is a tool or technique for representing text through a series of small images that substitue for letters or characters?

On a website, I would like to have all displayable email addresses as image files instead of text so that spammers cannot parse and capture them.

Any ideas?

RE: help with div's and form fields

2003-11-21 Thread Schuster, Steven
The way I did it I just passed a URL var. If you defined a form on the
second page you could also do something a bit more direct by writing
directly to the form values on the Test2.cfm. You would need to add it to a
FORM though as right now I didn't create a FORM for the text boxes but just
placed them on the page.
