well some of us do use flash and if u can make a cfc u can do some pretty
amazing things with flash and cfm
and now that flex is getting near to being used on shared servers, look out!!!
personally, i would rather have the flash goodies, cfm isnt near as tough
(unless it was an app like phpbb in cfm)

Ben,

Dreamweaver was meant to be a replacement for Homesite and CF Studio,
that is why it is dying. But more people feel the way you do. The only
positive feedback I heard from the product is from MM employees, which
makes you think if they see us as users or... customers ;)

Well DevNet, CD's were ok, but the content on DevNet is just not
interesting for the experienced user. If you are a newcomer I would say
handy. But who cares about creating a guestbook. Every person on
this list can do that. I have much more pleasure reading the articles on
clearsoftware.net than those from DevNet.

I would not miss those resource kits also. The stuff in it was too
simple, and mostly aimed at Flash. The resource kits are just overpriced
for what they are now but imo Macromedia is still to much minded at
Flash. You see that also by how the Flash/Central/Flex community is
approached compared to the ColdFusion community with all sorts of Flash
goodies.

Hi there,

I'm trying to connect to a remote MSSQL database with Microsoft SQL
Enterprise Manager
but the connection fails because the server requires I uograde to version
2000.
I'm presently using the version 7, I'm pretty happy with it and have no
intention to upgrade.
If I upgrade, I can get the 120 days trial version, but I'm affraid it will
overwrite my present version 7.

Can some one tell me if I can install the Server 2000 trial version without
loosing my version 7?

In fact, I would only need the Enterprise Manager version 2000.

Thanks.

Re: CFQUERYPARAM issue

2005-01-06 Thread Duncan I Loxton
OK, I discovered that

a) I posted in the wrong bit of the debug - the query after it was the
one affected. The fact that it had the ? on it threw me a bit and
stopped me looking at other causes, so I am afraid I jumped the gun
rather.
b) There was a problem relating to data and what was being passed,
that once I fixed, things seem to be working fine now.

 1) Shouldn't the cfqueryparam value be #URL.cotid# and not Attributes ?

No - fuseBox pushes form and URL into attributes on every request so
you dont have to mess around when you change a form to get / post.

While I am here - I have read that using cfqueryparam gives a
performance gain over not using it - is there any proof or technical
data out there? An explanation over why/how it makes a query faster?

Thanks!

RE: cfmailpart problems

2005-01-06 Thread Craig Dudley
The standards aren't all that clear but they do strongly suggest that
the 1st part of a multipart email should be the simplest, e.g. the text
part, you a specifying html 1st, this will work fine in most cases, but
some mail clients are more strict than others, I know of several which
will just show the text part form the mail below.

Flip the text/html parts round so text is first and try again, you might
be pleasantly suprised.

Uploading and displaying graphics from a database

2005-01-06 Thread Richard East
I apologise if this has been asked before. I’m starting work on a new
application. It would be useful if I can upload a gif into a MS-SQL
database. It would also be useful if I could write html output that
could display the gif from the MS-SQL database rather then directory. (I
hope that’s clear!)

Are there any CF tutorials explaining how to do this?

Thanks,

Richard

ARGH!

Never mind. It was the '@echo on' which came from the file's original
use as a click-on-it file accessed via terminal server. Switching it
to '@echo off' solved the problem.

Basically you have to encode the file store this encoding, then decode
on the output. Usually using ToBase64() and ToBinary()

I try to use queryparams whenever possible, but I have had occassions

No rhyme or reason I can see, but I did have to remove the queryparam to
get better performance on the query. YMMV.

Re: Uploading and displaying graphics from a database

2005-01-06 Thread Claude Schneegans
It would be useful if I can upload a gif into a MS-SQL
database.

Generally, it is not considered a good idea to store an image in a database.
The purpose of a database is to store things in order they can be searched and
sorted.
There is nothing to search or sort inside a GIF file.
The OS directory system is perfectly suited to store images. The best is to
store the directory address
of the image in the database, together with any other useful information like a
title, description, size, etc.

The reason why I want to do this is because I am writing an admin package to

central location. I think putting them in a database which all the sites can

Re: Uploading and displaying graphics from a database

2005-01-06 Thread Anthony Cooper
As suggested, you could store them in the OS and store the path in the
DB. To share images across several sites (and I'm guessing you mean
servers too) you could put all the images on one particular box in your
cluster and access them over the local network. I've done this on a
couple of sites in the past and it works very well.

Certification exam: Wait for Blackstone?

2005-01-06 Thread Stephen Lapointe
For those with some insider knowledge, some questions about CF certification
and Blackstone:
1) Will the Blackstone certification exam become available at about the same
time as the Blackstone product release?
2) If someone were to take the CF certification exam now (and pass), would the
certification be carried forward to Blackstone?
3) If the answer to 2 is no, would there be some coupon/discount for the
Blackstone exam if you've taken the current CF exam just a short period before
the Blackstone exam is available?
4) Bottom line: Would you recommend taking the CF certification exam now, or
wait until the Blackstone exam becomes available?

Thanks for any input.

You can acheive the same goal with CF.

RE: Certification exam: Wait for Blackstone?

2005-01-06 Thread Micha Schopman
I would not take the CF certification at all. I have did it once, and
the difficulty was very low, I rushed through the examination, and yes I
made an error but that was more less boredom than difficulty.

Besides, a CF certification doesn't have real value over here, maybe it
does have any weight in the US. I'd personally not recognize developers
on base of their CF certification if I had to just because the exam
isn't difficult at all if you have even minor experience with CF. I have
seen code from even a certified Macromedia trainer and that code really
made me cry, nightmares and waking up in the middle of the night all
sweaty in bed.

But hey .. maybe it is different in the US .. :) I'd rather spend my 150
dollars on diner and wine with the wife (or without the wife ... ).

RE: Flash Paper.. Dynamic

2005-01-06 Thread Robertson-Ravo, Neil (RX)
You can indeed generate Flashpaper and CFMX together now BUT you can only
convert DOC and other information to PDF/SWF on the fly. You cannot convert
HTML/HTM as this uses the MSHTML utility which requires you to manually
select the FlashPaper printer driver before it will convert.

You can use CFMX and Flashpaper together thus :

cfobject type=com name=FlashPaper class=flashpaperconnect2.object.2
action=create

cfset FlashPaper.BeginConversion(convertme.doc',converted.pdf',0,210,297)

I am unsure on how CFMX gets around the MSHTML issue but it must be doing
something which Flashpaper isn't doing at present!

Re: Conditional CC in email

2005-01-06 Thread Al Everett
You can nest a CFML tag inside an HTML tag, but not in another CFML tag.

One way:

cfmail to=[EMAIL PROTECTED]

cc=#Iif(IsDefined('IncludeRequestor'),DE(RequestorEmail),DE(''))#
subject=Data Change Request
replyto=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
type=HTML

Another way (to me more readable):

cfif IsDefined(IncludeRequestor)
cfset cc=RequestorEmail
cfelse
cfset cc=
/cfif

cfmail to=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
from=The Website
cc=#variables.cc#
subject=Data Change Request
replyto=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
type=HTML
Blah blah blah

Installing a JDBC driver for Informix on Windows

2005-01-06 Thread Tyler
I'm uneducated on most things Java and I'm trying to install an Informix
JDBC driver on a windows box and it's telling me I need to install JDK 1.3
or better on the server to run the install package (setup.jar). I'm
searching all over Sun's site and I'm lost amongst the sea of acrynoms, but
I believe the latest J2SE (http://java.sun.com/j2se/index.jsp) will install
JDK 5.0. If I install this, on a production server mind you, what are my
chances of royally screwing up the ColdFusion install? Hopefully nil, but I
gotta ask.

And because CFMX is already installed on this server, is it possible that I
could run the installer from the setup.jar right now, and I just don't know
how? (I tried java -cp C:/.../setup.jar run from the command prompt, but
it told me it couldn't process the java command.)

Mach-II - clearing the event queue

2005-01-06 Thread Matthew Small
Hi -
I'm writing a security plugin for our mach-ii applications. I need
to be able to halt further event processing if a user is not authenticated
or authorized. This is an event-based security model.
I'm using arguments.eventContext.clearEventQueue() in the preEvent()
function of the plugin, but it does not seem to stop processing further
events.
Here is a snippet of the code I am using:

cfset arguments.eventContext.clearEventQueue()/
cfset arguments.eventContext.announceEvent(login)/

I'm thinking that this means that any events in the queue are removed and
the application then processes the login event. But what I am seeing is that
the login event is thrown, then the same events that already were in the
queue are still processed. Am I missing something here?

BTW, I tried joining the mailing list at Topica, but it doesn't seem to be
working.

Thank you

RE: Conditional CC in email

2005-01-06 Thread Katz, Dov B (IT)
Instead of including a CC in CFMAIL, just use CFMAILPARAM name=CC
value=address

Then you can wrap those in CFIF's inside CFMAIL.

This should work, since it mucks with mail headers, but I must admit
I've never tried it myself.

Configuring IIS to Handle 404 Errors

2005-01-06 Thread Ben Rogers
I'm having trouble configuring IIS to handle 404 errors for ColdFusion
pages. Enabling the Check that file exists option on the .cfm extension
mapping is not enough.

It appears that ColdFusion (MX 6.1 with Updater) has added a wildcard
mapping. If I enable Check that file exists on that mapping, IIS traps 404
errors.

However, I'm not sure what effect that has. This site in particular uses
Flash Remoting. I'm a little worried that the wildcard mapping handles those
types of requests (flashservices/gateway), for instance.

Does anyone know what the wildcard mapping is used for? Am I going about
this the wrong way?

IIRC, CFMAIL accepts an empty string in the CC column, so you could
simply set a var to the email if you want to CC someone, or the empty
string if not.

Not double-checked, YMMV, etc, etc, etc.

RE: Printing to label Printer in CF

2005-01-06 Thread Ian Skinner
This may not help much, but I remember an article in CFDJ about a year or two
that describe exactly how to do this, create label layouts, with CSS. If your
lucky, you may be able to find it in the archives or somewhere.

THere is an option in the CFAdministrator that lets you set a 404
template. We just use this, then let the template redirect the user
to an appropriate page, or alternativly email developers etc.

Authorize.net

2005-01-06 Thread Ryan Mannion
Has anyone used authorize.net for thier payment processing gateway?

I sent an email asking about how the control would work. I've only
used Verisign Pay Flow Pro in the past. This is thier response.

This is the flow of control for AIM:
- The customer submits the order form on your web site.
- This form will post into a script on your server.

This script must do the following:
- Make a Direct Socket Connection to our Transact.DLL using SSL.
- Submit the transaction details. - Transact.DLL processes the transaction and
generates the results.
- The results are returned directly to the script that created the connection.
- Generate the receipt page using the results of the transaction that were
returned.

How would I make a direct socket connection to thier transact.dll
using SSL? I know how to install and configure the SSL cert, but how
would I make a Direct Socket Connection in Cold Fusion?

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

You can use CFMX and Flashpaper together thus :

cfobject type=com name=FlashPaper class=flashpaperconnect2.object.2
action=create

cfset FlashPaper.BeginConversion(convertme.doc',converted.pdf',0,210,297)

I am unsure on how CFMX gets around the MSHTML issue but it must be doing
something which Flashpaper isn't doing at present!

I am using it - it seems to work fine, I have not encountered any bugs,
except for the fact that the little optional barcode on the label doesn't
center at all.

Of course, this may be a user-error (me), or it might be a hiccup in
Word. Not sure, but I just turned this feature off in the code and forgot
about it.

Other than that, it works great under 6.1.

THere is an option in the CFAdministrator that lets you set a 404
template. We just use this, then let the template redirect the user

You don't need to do anything as far as installing and configuration an
SSL cert.

Just use cfhttp to call their dll

It's really very easy.

I've used Auth.net for 3+ years.

You post transactions to their server via a standard HTTP post over
HTTPs. They return a comma delimited list of result fields. They have
good docs on the field names, requirements, etc. on their site.

Because CFHTTP is absolutely worthless, we use a COM control to connect.
Check it out at www.xauthorize.com. You use createObject to get a handle
on the object, set it properties and call the charge() method. You then
read the properties of the object to get your results.

Hope this helps.

But the form data they type into your form that is then CFHTTP'd to

XmlSearch() can behave similarly to Query of Queries - but not in its

XmlSearch returns an array of matching XML nodes, and that array is not
search-able, however its elements ARE; e.g.
x = XmlSearch( xml, '/foo/bar[1]' );
y = XmlSearch( x[1], 'baz' );

The really interesting thing is that CF's XPath behaves like a cursor in
the XML object - in the example above, you could search x for / and
 get the whole document again.

 Hope thats mildly interesting

How about this one. We have 3 printers here with one being
our main printer and one with nicer color one and then we
will soon have a little label printer. Everyone pretty much
has their default printer set to the laser. So the question
is - is there a method I could use to have a label printer on
the label printer when the user hits the print this label
button? With out them having to change or select a printer.

We keep our servers at a co-location facility and the printer will be here
in corporate headquarters. I guess I will just have to expect people to
select the proper printer when they are printing a new label.

There will be some somewhere...

Basically you have to encode the file store this encoding, then decode
on the output. Usually using ToBase64() and ToBinary()

You could potentially code the 404 with a switch/case scenario to do

punctuation characters, and continuing with letters, digits, hyphens,
underscores, colons, or full stops, together known as name
characters.] Names beginning with the string xml, or with any string
which would match (('X'|'x') ('M'|'m') ('L'|'l')), are reserved for
standardization in this or future versions of this specification.

In other words, the NOAA feed is non-conforming (and, thus, CF's
behavior is technically correct - not a bug).

Yes, use CFHTTP and the returned html will be in the variable
cfhttp.fileContent.

Is there a way to dump the returned HTML (from a CF template) into a

Re: Structures and Sorting

2005-01-06 Thread Candace Cottrell
Nevermind y'all, I see what I was doing now. ;)

CKC

Hello fam! It's been a while!! I am working on a project where I need
to be able to sort the results by the directory size. I am using the
custom tag to pull back the cfdirectory info (folder sizes) and then
nesting another one within that to pull both the names and the
directory sizes.

I put the data in a structure and it is outputting fine, I just am
still having an issue with the sort. I think I have tried every
variation of StructSort(). Any help is greatly appreciated as always.

Hi - Does anyone know what factory object can be interrogated to find
out what threads are running (i.e. what .cfm pages are currently being
executed). Also, can we kill these threads programmatically and realte
them to the sessions that show in coldfusion.runtime.SessionTracker

I have a remote development server that constantly has running threads
and I'm finding it difficult to track down what the hell is causing it.

Cheers in advance

Re: This Week

2005-01-06 Thread Andrew Golden
Use day of week to determine the ordinal for the current day, determine
the difference between that number and one and subtract it from todays
date. Find the difference between that number and 7 and add it to
todays date.

Something like the following should get it, but you might want to check
the code. There may be a better way to do it, but this is how i have
done it in the past. I haven't looked to see if there is a UDF
available at cflibs.org though, if not I might throw one together.

cfset weekStart = dateAdd(d,((#DayOfWeek(now())# - 1) * -1),now())
cfset weekEnd = dateAdd(d,(7 - #DayOfWeek(now())#),now())

Re: Flash Paper.. Dynamic

2005-01-06 Thread Jared Rypka-Hauer - CMG, LLC
This isn't exactly related to the thread, but a question needs be
asked of the hostmysite people. Note that I'm not saying they're bad
people, but I am questioning the concept.

I question the idea of running a public server with beta software
that's under an NDA...

Do they require you to sign an NDA that's Mm-approved? Otherwise how
do they get around the Blackstone Beta program and the NDA that
participation requires?

Laterz,
J

RE: Running threads

2005-01-06 Thread Katz, Dov B (IT)
Not that this isnt easy to do, but I have a cfx java class which returns
the current system threadlist in acfquery object.

You can use CFObject to statically call
java.lang.Thread.currentThread().setName(SOME_URL) on every
request

If you want it, contact me offline and I'll send you the source and
class file when I get home from the office.

Re: dishing up servlets on cfmx enterprise

2005-01-06 Thread Chris Jensen
Hi
Can someone point me to a post.. or page on how to setup a servlet in
 cfmx..

Not sure if this is what you're after, but this is how I setup Scarab
(scarab.tigris.org) to share our Cold Fusion server

When installing Cold Fusion, there were 3 options, the default was
standalone with JRun and Cold Fusion integrated. But the one you need
for this is (I think the second option) for it to install JRun
explicitly with Cold Fusion installed on top.

I then dropped the scarab.war file into the directory for the default
server, in our case C:\JRun4\servers\default
JRun did all the rest of expanding the war and doing whatever needed
doing to get it working.

You may have to do some extra trickery to install it into the Cold
Fusion server.

I think I posted more details of how I got it working at the time, the
posts will be on the jrun list, or on the users list at the scarab site.
So check the sites (you can probably just search on my name as I've made
very few other posts to those sites)

Chris
