Just solved a troublesome memory leak running CFMX on W2k3 SP1
I'm posting this to CF-Talk as CFMX 6 and 7 paired with W2k3 SP1 seems to be the only common thread to this problem when Googling for a solution. Running on W2k3 SP1 Standard Server with CFMX running and accessing it via Terminal Services has had the annoying side effect of driving up the memory usage of winlogon.exe into the hundreds of MB. This issue has plagued our server since the SP1 upgrade and the only solution I knew of until today was to reboot the machine periodically because winlogon.exe cannot be stopped. The new solution I have discovered for this memory leak is to logon locally at the console. A logon where you are present at the machine flushes the winlogon process freeing all the unused memory. For me, the issue here is that our server it 200 miles away and I can't just drive down the road to login to it every week to keep the memory down... After some more Googling, I found a fix to the problem of having a long drive by simply adding /console to the mstsc.exe command in the shortcut or invoking the TS client from a command prompt using mstsc /console. This emulates a local login and flushes the previously large amount of memory back into the pool for other applications to use. I just tried it and free'd up 400 MB of RAM. Beautiful! interesting. Curious, when you use TS, do you actually logout wehn done or just close the TS client? Closing the TS client leaves you logged in on the server. Yeah. I looked at it a bit more and discovered he's probably just posting in the link to this location method (i.e.?1234+main+street,+city+zip). Then source scraping the lon+lat out. Not nearly as exciting as I had hoped and definitely against Google's terms of use. I was hoping for another API discovery. Still worth trying I guess if you're not running a batch and just doing the occasional map point. I'm more interested in real-time lookups since the data seems to be getting more and more precise. RE: GetTickCount() and application.cfc
If you are dumping the onRequestEnd() vars on the same page, I wouldn't think they would appear because the page has already been generated. (I'm not positive, however.) You can use CFLOG or CFMAIL to send you this information. Also, did you try creating a variable, in the application.cfc, but outside any functions? You could try that and, I would guess, the variable would last the entire length of the application.cfc process for that request. Maybe the problem is that you are using the REQUEST scope. Again, I'm not sure since I don't have that much experience with application.cfc yet, but this would be my uneducated guess. RE: GetTickCount() and application.cfc
I don't mean to sound rude but have you read the chapter on Application.cfc in the ColdFusion MX 7 Developer's Guide? Valid question - Yes, several times over the past 4 months, again last night. Also, figured out the problem, onRequestStart code was fine. I moved the endingTick count vars out of the onRequestEnd and into a page footer include (because I wanted to show page execution time at the bottom of the page. Apparently, the onRequestEnd fires after the footer, so that's why the vars weren't being set. BTW: the previous problem with onSessionStart and Browserhawk was indeed a browserhawk problem, which is being address in v9, due out Nov 10 (I got an advance copy and it did solve the problem - runs much faster as well). RE: CF 7.0 and Verity K2
That was noted during the beta... It is part of the trade-off of having much faster searches I guess. I do know that Verity is including a lot more information about each document now so that would definitely impact the time it takes to index each document. Wild guess here... Does your collection have category support turned on? Are you using it? Try creating your collection without category support and see if that helps with the indexing speed. I wasn't saying that if you have dw and eclipse open with the same file in each, I was looking it at like sean uses it, I need dw for cssp layouts or for the presentation tier but would like to have ecplise open with the cfc's and data pier but not have them editing the same files at the same time nor anytime. Does that make more sense? Along those lines does anyone know if there is any plans with eclipse to add a split view like dw does? Re: eclpise and dw playing together
I haven't used it thoroughly but couldn't you just set your eclipse application for the same directory as your site files? If I were on my desktop I'd test but I can't at the moment. If you provide onRequest(), CFMX expects it to cfinclude your requested page. onRequestStart() is the closest equivalent to Application.cfm, onRequestEnd() is the closest equivalent to OnRequestEnd.cfm. What's the best free low resource RDBMS? If your only criteria is that it use few resources, I suspect an embedded database like Pointbase might be best. Pointbase is actually distributed with JRun. The only reason I know anything about it at all is that the MM JRun and Flex classes used to use it. When I try a cfoutput the First name field I get a Badly formatted template error I'm assuming that the space in the field name is going to be troublesome. Ideas? ColdFusion Reseller Accounts
Anyone know of a good ColdFusion reseller service? The reason why I ask is because I'm currently working on a couple of projects that both need hosting. Now, I currently have a VPS with Apollo Hosting and could, in theory, host these new sites on my VPS. However, I personally don't want to deal with the hassle and expense of getting an internet merchant account plus have to worry about manually sending monthly invoices if I can avoid it. In other words, something relatively inexpensive and automated would be ideal. But I also want to be able to easily administer and keep track of accounts. Any information and/or suggestions regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Re: Bday boy needs some left outer join help
Tyler, I'm getting this error. It's the same one I've gotten thru this whole process: Error Executing Database Query. [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression 'tblSKUoptions_rel.optionSKUID = tblprod_SKUS.SKUID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblproducts ON tblprod_SKUS.SKU_prodID = tblproducts.prodID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblshiptimes ON tblprod_SKUS.shiptimeID = tblshiptimes.shiptimeID'. Here's the generated SQL: SELECT tblprod_SKUS.SKUID, tblprod_SKUS.merchSKUID, tblprod_SKUS.SKU_prodID, tblprod_SKUS.SKUprice, tblprod_SKUS.SKUsaleprice, tblprod_SKUS.SKUqtyinstock, tblprod_SKUS.shiptimeID, tblshiptimes.shiptimeID, tblshiptimes.shiptimetext, tblSKUoptions_rel.optionID, tblSKUoptions_rel.optionSKUID, tblSKUoptions_rel.option_optionID, tblproducts.prodID, tblproducts.prod_MerchID, tblproducts.prodname FROM tblprod_SKUS LEFT OUTER JOIN tblSKUoptions ON tblSKUoptions_rel.optionSKUID = tblprod_SKUS.SKUID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblproducts ON tblprod_SKUS.SKU_prodID = tblproducts.prodID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblshiptimes ON tblprod_SKUS.shiptimeID = tblshiptimes.shiptimeID WHERE tblprod_SKUS.SKUID = (param 1) And here's my cfquery: cfquery name=getskuinventory datasource=#VARIABLES.dsn# SELECT tblprod_SKUS.SKUID, tblprod_SKUS.merchSKUID, tblprod_SKUS.SKU_prodID, tblprod_SKUS.SKUprice, tblprod_SKUS.SKUsaleprice, tblprod_SKUS.SKUqtyinstock, tblprod_SKUS.shiptimeID, tblshiptimes.shiptimeID, tblshiptimes.shiptimetext, tblSKUoptions_rel.optionID, tblSKUoptions_rel.optionSKUID, tblSKUoptions_rel.option_optionID, tblproducts.prodID, tblproducts.prod_MerchID, tblproducts.prodname FROM tblprod_SKUS LEFT OUTER JOIN tblSKUoptions ON tblprod_SKUS.SKUID = tblSKUoptions_rel.optionSKUID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblproducts ON tblprod_SKUS.SKU_prodID = tblproducts.prodID LEFT OUTER JOIN tblshiptimes ON tblprod_SKUS.shiptimeID = tblshiptimes.shiptimeID WHERE tblprod_SKUS.SKUID = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_integer value=#ARGUMENTS.SKUID# /cfquery Any ideas? RE: CF Upgrade to 7.0
Check the install docs. I think there is a setting you can use that will basically say the import is complete. Or, you might try to access the site again. But, if you use IE on w2k3 server, make sure you allow the site in your browser. You might also try to access it from an IP address if it doesn't work by using localhost. This might take a few minutes. for the past hour. The sites are working, but I cannot get into the Administrator because it is importing. There are Verity collections that need to be created, but I would like to do that myself at this point. Any way to cancel the import? RE: Problem with fields in SQL 2000 DB
I would suggest creating a view, for each table. That way, you only need to alias the fields one time and then you can refer to the new field names in your SQL statement. I'll use the quotes and try to have fun with this... Thanks, Yves ~| Logware (www.logware.us): a new and convenient web-based time tracking application. onSessionEnd Error on 7.01
We just moved a site to a new server. The old server was running ColdFusion MX 7 while the new one is running ColdFusion MX 7.01. I suddenly started getting errors ( reported via onError() ) saying that onSessionEnd() couldn't be found. I added onSessionEnd to Application.cfc and I got a new blank error every time that onSessionEnd fires (unless I manually fire it). Does anyone have any clues what might might be causing this? RE: ColdFusion Reseller Accounts
Hi Anne, I can't vouch for them, as I've never used them: http://www.hostnexus.com/solutions/coldfusion.htm But I have considered one of their CF reseller options... I just couldn't commit. Has anyone else tried HostNexus?
