CF App or hosted Affiliate Program

2007-04-10 Thread coldfusion . developer
Hi All,

Does anyone know of a solid, reputable Sales Affiliate program.
It's for someone (Business A) that is selling products in a niche market
and wants to offer other companies, the affiliate the ability to sell
these niche products by either link to the main site or doing the
transaction on each of their sites and having the order come
directly to the Business A. Affiliate get % for the sale. Reporting
and Affiliate managment tools required. I was able to find one
company does anyone know anything about this company?
http://www.affiliateshop.com

I'd possibly consider buy a CF app to implement myself.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I may be wrong, but I'd be surprised if the listLast function was smart
enough to parse the string backward in order to find the first
occurrence of the delimiter and extract the last item in the list.
If It does, then fine, you've probably got the best solution, but if it
does not, parsing 8500 line to find the last one could be a significant
overhead.
The idea would be then to apply the function on some substring that
would contain only about 100 characters at the end of the string.

But again, I really don't know how optimized the listLast function is.

Re: Server Down?

2007-04-10 Thread Michael Dinowitz
I was off for holiday and did not see it until an hour or so. The mail server
is on a separate box with it's own CF server so mail is not effected. I'm
looking into what the problem is and it may well be an issue of overloading.
The site traffic is increasing and the logging code I have may be stressed
beyond its limits.

I'll have a few monitors/patches/fixes in place asap as long as I'm still alive
(waiting for this baby is killing me).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Michael

p.s. In the past I had people who had access to the box that could reboot it
but I failed to ask them to look the site over in my absence. I'll be taking
applications for site monitors, moderators and other various helpers very soon.

It's easy enough to fix...here's the result. Not quite as flexible, but
it works.

#whichMethod(method)#

Ah, I see. If you don't have tags the keys are not
named. Ok. Another way you can do this, I think, is name the keys in
the function call. If you like you could give this a try.

#whichMethod(andy:andy,Jaime:Jaime,Noelle:noelle)#

OR

  ...

I wonder if those would provide named arguments to the argument
structure in the function. But then I also wonder if either of these
methods provides any benefit over your solution.

RE: Get the variable name from it's value?

2007-04-10 Thread Andy Matthews
This is the truth. A perfect way to test this is to run my code, but dump
the ARGUMENTS structure inside the function. This is what you'll see:

struct
1 1
2 0
3 0

Nowhere in the arguments structure is the string andy, jaime OR noelle, so
there's no way to return that value. It would be analagous to creating a
structure like this:

struct["1"] = 1;
struct["2"] = 0;
struct["3"] = 0;

It's easy enough to fix...here's the result. Not quite as flexible, but it
works.

Yes, but because he is passing in variables, they will be evaluated within
the array notation.

If he were doing this: whichMethod("andy","jaime","noelle") -- passing in
strings then what you are saying is true.

But he is doing this: whichMethod(andy, jaime, noelle) -- passing in variables

.so, in the method when you then do arguments[arg], this will be seen as
arguments[andy] = arguments[1] =
not arguments["andy"] = 1

This is why his original code almost works, but not quite - I added

Yes, but when you pass variables and|or values into a function, they are
stored in a structure internal to that function named "arguments". He
is then looping over this structure with the tag.

On each iteration of this loop, a key from the 'arguments' structure

Aha, but arg is not a variable containing the string "andy", arg is a
pointer to the *variable* named andy (he is passing variables to the method,
not strings), which evaluates to 1, so that is what will be returned by
cfreturn -- I think.

Hopefully the real Andy will get back to us with some answers.

Not sure but won't that return the value 1 rather than the string "andy"

though, because arg is a variable that evaluates to 1?

Without writing some test code I beleive arg should be a variable
containing the string "andy" on of the keys of the "arguments"
structure. And the expression #arguments[arg]# should be equivalent to
#arguments["andy"]# which would evaluate to the value '1'.

Thus you want to test structure[key] then return the value of 'key' used
in the test.

Not sure but won't that return the value 1 rather than the string "andy"
though, because arg is a variable that evaluates to 1?

I think that even though YOU are aware that only one of the arguments will
have the value of 1, this violates the basic methodology of key-value pairs,
and so will require some workarounds, if it's even possible.

Trying to get the string value of a variable name from the value is like
trying to put toothpaste back in the tube, because the key-value
relationship is unidirectional.

Hey all,

I don't expect much help on this because there always seems to be weirdness

For some reason, each chartseries doubles itself so there are 20 data points
showing on each chartseries, with the second 10 data points duplicating
exactly the first 10.

Here's a link to see what the chart looks like:
http://www.igigi.com/revchart.png

You can see that the second 10 data points are an exact replica of the first
10 data points for each chartseries.

I've outputted the data outside the charting tags, and it's exactly as I
expected - three sets of 10 data points.

Any clues would be appreciated.

Reactor on CFMX 6.1 (Windows)?

2007-04-10 Thread Damien McKenna
Anyone know what the compatibility is like these days with Reactor on
CFMX 6.1 on Windows? We don't want to upgrade to CFMX7 when CFMX8 is
just around the corner.

Thanks.

Re: Access my SessionService from Gateway (MG, CS, Reactor)

2007-04-10 Thread Joe Rinehart
Robert,

Why should a data access component (gateway) be interested in the
current session? Basically, how did you wind up in this situation?

I think we can find a more elegant way of solving it.

With that call you are talking to reactor I'm assuming. I've not worked with
MG:U, so I'm not exactly sure what is going on in the construction of those
objects. I know that MG:U provides scaffolding, and am assuming that the
getOrmService().createGateway() call is referencing a table called
"Credentials" that it read from your database.

In this case, reactor is creating the gateway, not CS, so you have to determine
how to inject the sessionFacade into the reactor generated file. I know that
reactor generates files that you can provide custom methods, and that might be
the place to achieve what you are trying to do. It could be that CS fires
after reactor, so you might be able to add a reference in the reactor generated
abstract gateway and have CS inject your façade.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help with this exact issue, but I think that there
is a list dedicated to MG:U, and you might find more help from people there.

I'm a little unclear on what you are trying to achieve. Once you create the
credentials gateway, it seems as though you are going to look up a users
credentials. How does your sessionFacade factor into this? Why would it need
to be injected into the gateway?

Are your internal users and yourself accessing Coldfusion through a

Hello all. I am reading the contents of a tab delimited text file using
and the new line character. It may have up to 8500 lines. The last
line will have a single line of text that reads "eof, lines:WXYZ" where WXYZ
is the number of lines in the file. This last line signifies that the file

Once I load the contents of the file with , what would be the *most

bet, or something else?

RE: Direct User after Login

2007-04-10 Thread Jon Clausen
Ah. I missed that you wanted to capture the redirect information.
Duh! I would suggest one of two things:

1) Just have your login form page override the "body" value of the
view collection (or whatever name you use for your core template
body) and then when they submit (as long as you have your check auth
function set up to process login data), they are submitting back to
the same page. That's how I prefer to do it. In other words, make
your form action="" and let your login check do the heavy lifting.

2) Do a hidden formfield that captures the CGI.HTTP_REFERER (or
however you process it into the event) and pass that through the auth
process. You could go through creating a separate handler to do
that, but a after login is definitely going to be fast
and painless. Trying to deal with that through MG means having to
parse the referrer query string into events and event variables and,
to me, that would be kind of silly since you can keep the URI string
intact and go. JMHO.

RE: A Question for Development: Ajax Now or Ajax Later?

2007-04-10 Thread Rick Faircloth
A good perspective, Dan.

I'll most likely follow that path. I especially agree on the "component"
aspect of packaged solutions...they tend to work well at first, but as
requirements for functionality grow, code has to be manually tweaked
and I end up writing much of the code myself.

It was that way when I first learned ColdFusion.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,

>provides,
>and then just fill in any remaining gaps with "third-party" development?

A couple of quick points:

jQuery is more than just AJAX. There's also a lot in jQuery (animation
effects, DOM manipulation, etc) that CF won't address. These are most likely
things that you'll want to tie in to AJAX functionality. Almost all Web 2.0
UI finding I've read, say the same thing--and that's if you're updating
partial content on the page, users like a subtle effect on the updated
content to reflect the state change. When you write the code yourself (even
w/using a library like jQuery) you have complete control over what's going
to happen.

Whatever AJAX enhancements that CF8 adds, it will still be geared towards to
solving "most" problems, but it won't necessarily give you all the
functionality you need. You may find that 95% of the time, it does
everything you need, but what are you going to do when CF doesn't give you
all the functionality you want?

Well, if you just start now and begin developing a solutions, I think you'll
find the following:

* That once you understand how everything is working, it won't take you much
more (if any more) time to write the same type of code that CF outputs for
you, but you'll have 100% control over the behavior.

* That if you need more functionality, you can add to your libraries and
then it's always available to you in the future.

RE: Direct User after Login

2007-04-10 Thread Robert Rawlins - Think Blue
Hell Jon.

Thanks for that, no worries about the other mail, I do it all the time ;-)

It sounds as if our setup is almost identical, I too have a function that
checks the state of the user and then posts a result dependant upon that, if
they are not logged in, then I use the:

Now, the problem arises once they're on the login form, they fill in their
information and hit the 'login' button, which then posts the form
information to an event called 'doLogin' which takes the form values and
checks them in a query against the database, if a match is found, the user
is logged in.

What I'm struggling to achieve those is that IF they successfully login,
then to post them to the page they were trying to access. So if a user goes
to event=articles and they are not logged in, they get passed to event=login
where they input the correct information, it'll log them in, and pass them
back to event=articles, which they will now be able to see.

Thanks again,

If they are not logged in, you send them to the login page and set the refer
but it looks like you got that.

Then after they login you send them back.

Temporarily set max pooled statements to 0 for that datasource. Then
set it back to wherever you had it. It might work, it might not, but

RE: Small Question: any vs viod

2007-04-10 Thread Ben Nadel
I have not tested this in any way at all, but from informal talks with
Michael Dinowitz, I believe by specifying "void" as the return type,
ColdFusion does NOT set aside any memory pointers for the return value
(where as with "any", it sets up something to handle the return value).
My guess is that by using "void" you are bypassing what ever
return-value handling mechanism needs to get put in place... Is it
faster? Mabye my nanoseconds. Is it better for memory usage? Again,
maybe infiteceimally better.

They serve entirely opposite purposes.

"Any" means the return value of the CFC can be of any type, so no type
checking.

"Void" means the CFC doesn't return any value at all, and if you try to
return something, it will throw an error. It isn't "type" checking so
much, as just making sure nothing is returned at all.

Direct User after Login

2007-04-10 Thread Robert Rawlins - Think Blue
Hey Chaps,

I've been working on my security system this past week, and I've pretty much
got a working model for the application, but I've got a couple of little
features I'd like to try and achieve, one of which is redirecting a user
after login, to the page they were trying to access in the first place. I'm
running model glue unity, so I'll give you a brief rundown of how the
application currently authenticates a user.

For any event that i want the user to be logged in for i simply put out a
broadcast, and listen for a result, this is all configured in the XML like
so:

As you can see the event broadcasts asking for the user to be authenticated,
my security controller will then check the Boolean in the user session bean
to see if they have logged into the site for this session, if it returns
'false' then the controller sets a result of 'NotAuthenticated' and the user
is posted to the Login event.

My user can then enter their username and password into the login form, and
this posts to another method called 'doLogin' which checks their credentials
against the database, if they match then it sets the session user bean
Boolean value to 'true' so they won't be prompted in future. If they do NOT
match then the controller sets a result of 'NotVefied' and my doLogin event
has a listener for that, and posts them back to the login form with an error
message.

Now presumably I need my controller to post a result called 'Verified' if
the login is successful and the result can then direct the user to the page
they were trying to access before realizing they were not logged in. How do
I make that 'do' event dynamic though?

I've probably made a real hash of that explanation guys, but hopefully
someone will have a couple of ideas to toss into the pot.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Richard, thanks for the quick response mate.

I'm not using CS to access my gateway using the getBean() method, I'm accessing
the gateway using something like this.

LOCAL.gCredentials =
getModelGlue().getOrmService().createGateway("Credentials");

Will I still be able to use your suggested method?

CS won't be able to autowire your model, but it can still wire those cfcs for
you. In your services.xml file, define your façade and then define your
gateway with the façade as a property like:

Then when you ask CS for your gateway, it will have the session façade wired
in.

ColdFusion has a built in webserver that runs (by default) on port
8500. You can use this for your local/development work.

So while you don't -have- to install a separate web server, I like to
keep my dev and prod environments as similar as possible... so I
generally run the same web server locally as the web server running on
the prod machine.

but short answer.. no, during the local CF install just choose to use
CF's built in webserver

Access my SessionService from Gateway (MG, CS, Reactor)

2007-04-10 Thread Robert Rawlins - Think Blue
Hello Guys, this should be a quick and easy one I hope.

I've made a habit of accessing all my scopes like Application and Session
through a facade cfc passed to me by one of the other developers. When I
need to access it from my controllers i just have CS auto wire it to the
controller. I now need access to this session service from one of the
Gateways. How can I access this service from my gateway? Some form of
getBean() function perhaps? It seems that ColdSpring cant auto wire directly
to the model components.

Thanks,

Rob

RE: Could not find prepared statement with handle 2 - suddenly?

2007-04-10 Thread Adrian Lynch
Whenever I get the error from using SELECT * and cfqueryparam and adding
columns it's not that error. Usually CF7, SQL Server 2000 if that matters.

Dan,

I think you hit the nail on the head there, I'm sure that's what was
going on, as it looks like a column was added to that table. Its always
fun to look at code you did in the past, even 2 months ago I look at
some code and go 'oh man, why didn't I do X'.

Quick re-coding time =)

Using tags and the "select *" directive, can cause
problems if you insert a new column into your table. If you insert the
column between existing columns, the cache query plan used by the report
all of the sudden becomes corrupt.

This is one of many reasons it's recommended not to use "select *" when
querying data. Always explicitly set the columns you need in your code.
In the long run, it'll make your coding life easier.

Re: Small Question: any vs viod

2007-04-10 Thread Doug Bezona
They serve entirely opposite purposes.

"Any" means the return value of the CFC can be of any type, so no type
checking.

"Void" means the CFC doesn't return any value at all, and if you try to
return something, it will throw an error. It isn't "type" checking so much,
as just making sure nothing is returned at all.

Just a small UI comment, you use blue for headings and links(with no
underline), so it's hard to tell what's a link and what's not until you mouse
over it. Gets a little confusing

Re: Could not find prepared statement with handle 2 - suddenly?

2007-04-10 Thread Kris Jones
If the database field is varchar, then you are using the correct cfsqltype.
This sounds more like CF lost it's cache of the query ("Could not find
prepared statement with handle 2") and couldn't rebuild, but I thought that
CF wouldn't cache queries that use cfqueryparam. Hmmm...

Cheers,
Kris

The reportnumber technically is a varchar containing a number (URL vars
are typless arent they?) and the database field is a varchar. Why would
this happen today and not in the past 4 years?

My guess is that Reportnumber is an INTEGER field but the CFQUERYPARAM
you are specifying indicates a VARCHAR field.

Making no code or server changes (that I know of), this morning an
application that I have had going for 4 years+ started throwing this
error:

Could not find prepared statement with handle 2

I tracked it down to this pretty simple query here:

 SELECT * FROM
runReports WHERE Reportnumber =

I removed the cfqueryparam, and it starts working perfectly. Why would
this break all the suddon? Any idea's?
