Resolution and Color Depth Data

2008-02-22 Thread Jim Davis
I'm really trying to get back into the swing of actually working on my site.
So, as a start, I've finally reworked the "Resolution Data" page that was
broken by my big redesign a (long) while ago.

Here's the page:

These charts collect a bit under four years of data.

Obviously this is only data for my site (not a very large audience I'm
afraid) but I still hope that the information is useful (or at least
interesting). Next I'd like to find an elegant way to present the numbers
as functions of time. This is more complex using my data source and might
not be performant so I might end up with simple six month "snap shots"
instead... but we'll see.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or suggestions!

Jim Davis

RE: LDAP Query for group members

2008-02-22 Thread Dawson, Michael
Glad to help.

Regarding group membership, check back through the archives on this list.
Specifically, look on Thurs, Jan 17, 2008 at 9:12 AM.

I posted a reply with the subject of "RE: CFLdap". This reply contains the
code that uses CFLDAP to add and remove domain group members.

If you can't find it, let me know and I'll repost it for you.

I learned most of this by combining Active Directory Users and Computers with
LDAP. I would make a change in ADU&C, then output all attributes via LDAP.
Then, I would see which values would change. That is how I mapped-out many of
the attributes.

MSDN helped quite a bit, as well. I also picked up some obscure help by
Googling.

Other than knowing the multi-value attributes, and an odd binary attribute here
and there, LDAP with Active Directory is cake.

I would suggest that you install the Active Directory Schema MMC plug in on a
domain controller. You can browse the schema and see which attributes are
multi-values, which are indexed and find out the datatype/length of the
attributes.

I you have any other LDAP questions, let me know.

Michael-

AWESOME! Thank you so much for the help. Is it as simple to add users to
the group using the same method? Did you come up with this on your own
or find this info somewhere? Any other tips of things I can look out for
as I'm working with CFLDAP?

That notion has crossed my mind, but that brings up a whole different set of

My web sites are finally back up and working extremely fast I might add.
RDC and VCP are working.

RE: The unofficial ahphosting status thread

2008-02-22 Thread Rick Faircloth
I've had HTTP, FTP, RDC, haven't been able to access
VCP for about two weeks, but don't use it much.

The biggest issue I have now is that CF 8 is going down
at least once per day and I have to logon via RDC and
restart it.

Anyone else with site running seeing this behavior?

Now as far as FusionLink offering to help with CF hosting...
I don't mind the info. After all, he did wait the better part
of a week before saying anything. And yes, I'm a big boy and
I can certainly find my own host, but I can also appreciate
John letting us know that he's ready to help. No problem for me.

I feel like after this situation, I may have to have a backup host
ready to go, even if I have to pay for it and not use it. If I had
fully migrated all my sites from my in-house server to AHP, I would
have lost some of my best customers, who just happen to still be
on my in-house server, thankfully.

I run daily backups of my MySQL DB's using Navicat, too (great tool,
huh Mary Jo? :o) and have all my sites on my development PC and
remote SVN, so I could have set up an entirely new host and would
have if some of those "best clients" had been on AHP.

This has turned into a real issue...

Can't tell if it was CMYK or RGB.

Here's what I know from looking at the image:
File Size: 640k
440px x 250px (the size of the gallery viewer)
Resolution: 300dpi (grr... the bane of my existence)
Bit Depth: 24
Resolution Unit 2
Color Representation Unknown

That is what Vista has to say about the image.

CF is free to use for up to 2 IP's. Adobe also has free licensing for people

Good point, that's not a good example for ColdFusion, is it. But I figure
there's more to a SQL Injection attack than just the single-quote attack?

Is there resizing going on? If so, what are you using to resize it? I made
a photo gallery plugin for Farcry 3 and had this error a few times. If I
went into Fireworks and did "Save As" the image than worked fine. The
images that I had problems with came from .TIF and we used a batch
conversion program to change them over.

RE: CFC protect from SQL Injection?

Good point, that's not a good example for ColdFusion, is it. But I figure
there's more to a SQL Injection attack than just the single-quote attack?

Thanks,

My point is that this won't work in CF, because CF auto escapes single
quotes in variables...

RE: "Unknown connection error" problem w/ ColdFusion 4.5

2008-02-22 Thread Chris Norloff
I don't have any solutions, though I'd try different versions of drivers,
and ask the DB folks to run a trace on it to see if you can get some data.
You might try different datasource connection settings (maintain
connections, or not ... etc.). It might take a bit of trial and error to
find something workable. Also, try the web server logs to see if a
particular page is being called when you get the error.

good luck,

Down since this AM... Again. I really hope they resolve this ASAP.

Had VCP for a while, now thats dead.
NO HTTP
I have mail, or at least I am able to connect and check.
RDP is functioning...

Sometimes, If I can get into the VCP I restart the container and sometimes
that brings up HTTP
If I can RDP in, I can restart that way. Sometimes that works...

I am real lucky my clients are being understanding...right now... One of
mine runs a charter business and if we were in season right now, I would
have lost a client over this... Who knows what trickle down impact is going
to occur now.

Subject: RE: LDAP Query for group members

There are a couple of solutions to this issue, however, one is the best.
I'll save that for last, of course.

"Member" is a multi-value attribute in Active Directory. By default, it
is a comma-delimited value. As you have found, distinguished names are
also comma-delimted by nature.

You can solve this issue by using CFLDAP's SEPARATOR attribute. If you
specify a tab char, chr(9), you will get back a tab-separated list of
member distinguished names. You can then use CFLOOP to loop over each
member. However, if you want to know the member's first name, you would
have to perform another LDAP query for each member. That could, and
will, be very slow, if you have a large group.

You will also have a limitation of 1000 members. Active Directory
returns only 1000 values in a multi-value attribute. There is a
workaround for this, but it really sucks. I don't even want to talk
about it.

Basically, this will get you close to what you are doing now, with the
only improvement of a tab-separated list of members.

The best solution comes now... It is so simple, it will make you
giggle.

Rather than query a group's members, you are better off querying all
users who are a member of a group.

Basically, you will set your filter to be:
"(&(objectCategory=Person)(memberOf=DN=GroupName, OU=Org, DC=domain,
DC=com))"

Also, you need to specify the DELIMITER attribute in the CFLDAP tag.
Set it to a tab character chr(9). You won't be passing any tabs in your
filter, however, this prevents any errors because of the commas in the
group's distinguished name.

Then, in your CFLDAP tag, you can specify all of the user attributes
that you need: givenName, sn, title, department, telephoneNumber, etc.
You will get it all back in one CF query object.

The best part is that you are not limited to the 1000-value limit that
you would have hit by using the first method.

However, you may hit another limit in the number of records that Active
Directory returns via LDAP queries. By default, I think it may be 1000,
but you can modify your domain controllers to increase that limit. I
increased our limit to 10,000 records.

If you have this problem, Google "ntdsutil and maxpagesize" or just

Subject: LDAP Query for group members

I'm trying to find out if there's a simpler way to do this than what I'm
doing. Currently, I'm querying a group from LDAP and retrieving the
attribute called Member which gives me this ugly result set of one
record with all of these domain users' distinguished names instead of
just the AD username. I can parse this, but it's a mess because the
names look like this: CN=User.Name, OU=Users, OU=Location,
OU=Organization, DC=domain, DC=com, CN=User2.Name, OU=Users,.

The ldap code looks like this currently:

I'd like to find a way to query the names and have them return as a
result set with one row for each user. Obviously, the parsing of the
file would be difficult because of all the commas in a single record but
it's possible because of each record starting with CN. Anyone have a
better way of doing this? Is there some sort of LDAP function you can
pass to get it to return just the username instead of the full DN?
Eventually, I'm assuming I'll hit the same roadblock on querying a
user's groups to see if they're in a specific group. Any information to
make my life easier would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmm, no luck for me, searched for it with fckconfig.js to no avail (the editor
came with CF8 standard), commented out the following block for default IE
speller
/*
FCKConfig.SpellChecker  = 'ieSpell' ;   // 'ieSpell' |
'SpellerPages'
FCKConfig.IeSpellDownloadUrl= 'http://www.iespell.com/download.php' ;
// tried to comment out the following line; dl; 01/25/2008
FCKConfig.SpellerPagesServerScript = 'server-scripts/spellchecker.php' ;
// Available extension: .php .cfm .pl
// FCKConfig.SpellerPagesServerScript = = './server-scripts/spellchecker.cfm';
*/

added the following line,
FCKConfig.FirefoxSpellChecker = true; // outcome: still to no avail.

Do I have to restart cf server to make them take effect of the new settings?
Thought they are client side js, so, no need for cf server restart...

Thanks.

That is something I've been curious/worried about and would explain the huge
change in performance.

That wouldn't be a problem and would probably improve performance for a lot of
small reports, but the report I was testing with many sub-reports went from
about 2 minutes to create up to 30 minutes.

I guess it is time to take another look at Crystal Reports.

i'd wager that adobe is aware of what their competitors are doing, and
have taken all of this into consideration in making their decisions.
remember, just because we don't see any particular actions doesn't
mean adobe is ignoring it. we don't know what goes on behind closed
doors. i would put money on the fact that they're not completely
ignorant as to what's going on around them, and that there are factors
going into their decisions that we're not necessarily aware of.

would it be nice? sure. i'm not debating that at all. but i put a
certain amount of faith into the fact that there's a whole lot going
on at adobe that we're not privvy to :)

disaster planning [was: Re: The unofficial ahphosting status thread]

Russ wrote:

For a simple site the 'things to move' usually breaks out to:
- code
Easy, will be in your repository on another location.
- email
Is only really a consideration if you store mail on the server instead
of locally. Even then it is easy to backup and delaying or even loosing
a few hours of email is usually survivable for a business. (The simplest
way to do your backups is to set up another e-mail server and do a
'forward and keep a copy' on your primary mailserver. That other server
can even be at your own home since it is essentially a write-only
server you just do a bulk upload of .mbox files to your new host if you
ever need to restore mail that was stored on the server).
- uploads
Easy to do a remote backup over FTP at the interval you are comfortable
with.
- databases
Depends on database and hoster. Some databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) allow
for remote backups and you can do your own backups at the interval you
are comfortable with. For MS SQL Server you depend on the hoster for
backups because backups are written to the local filesystem and that is
typically not accessible to you. (For our MS SQL Server shared hosting
we do hourly backups and if customers want they can get a copy FTP'ed to
their site FTP account.)

In order to move it you need:
- a place to host.
- control over DNS so you can point your site to the new host.

Something you should not forget is IP dependencies at business partners.
If you are doing transactions with third parties that have a list of
allowed IP addresses you need to make sure you can either update those
IP addresses instantaneously or you register the fallback IP addresses
beforehand.

A good way to start planning this is to go over the archive of all your
communications with your current hoster and see what they had to do to
get you set up, because your new host probably has to do the same for
you. Once you have that, set up a mirror on a local development server
and see what you run in to.

"Unknown connection error" problem w/ ColdFusion 4.5

2008-02-22 Thread Meghan Belanger
I work for a large corporation that has a number of legacy systems, as large
corporations do. While we're running ColdFusion MX 7 locally, my department
(me specifically) is supporting an application that was written years ago in
ColdFusion 4.0. I managed to update this app to ColdFusion 4.5.1 when we took
over support, but any further upgrades are currently not an option, as we work
in a regulated environment and so the time and money involved in taking on that
kind of project is prohibitive for a system that will most likely be retired
within the next couple of years.

That's my long-winded way of saying "I know that I could probably fix this
issue by not running antiquated software on an antiquated server, but since I'm
not able to do so, I'd appreciate other suggestions if you've got them!" :)

The server on which this CF 4.5.1 app runs is Windows 2000, and we've got the
Oracle 8.1.7 client installed. When I originally set up the server, we had
Oracle 9i drivers installed, but this caused a recurrent error in which the
database connection seemed to be dropped after a period of inactivity, and
could not be re-established. I resolved that error by installing Oracle 8.1.7
instead. The database connected to this app is Oracle 9i.

So the problem is this: for almost as long as we've had this application up and
running on its current server, the following error appears, in general, at
least once per day:

-
Error Occurred While Processing Request
Error Diagnostic Information
ODBC Error Code = ()

Unknown connection error for the data source, 'CPAS_VASC.'

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFQUERY), occupying document position (51:2) to (51:76).

-

The error seems to occur randomly (in the middle of people working on the
system, it seems, but there is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens), and
when it does, we are forced to either a) reboot the server, or b) bounce the
ColdFusion service to get it back up. If I log in to the web server while this
message is occurring, everything appears fine. I can access the ColdFusion
Administrator, but if I go into the ODBC section and try to verify my data
source, it will fail. As I said before, bouncing the ColdFusion service will
fix it. We have the web server on a nightly reboot, because for a while that
seemed to help.

So the problem seems to be that ColdFusion loses its ability to connect with
the database, even in the middle of people working, and cannot re-establish a
connection until the service is restarted. Why would this be? I've tried
Googling this over and over again, and have had no luck finding any reference
to this kind of problem. This has gone on for at least a year at this point.
I'm trying to find answers again because for some reason this problem has
gotten worse over the past couple of days. On Wednesday, this happened four
times within the span of about two hours. The weird part is that the system
can function correctly for long periods of time, and then this error will pop
up. So I know the ODBC is set up correctly, and it's not that it will never
connect at all.

Are there any CF Administrator settings that I can modify to address this
issue? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before? I'm feeling quite
desperate at this point. They're looking to replace this system with something
from an outside vendor, but the speed of corporate America is glacial, and I
fear that I'll be dealing with this for years to come.

Meghan

I've used CFHTTP with problem web services (where cfinvoke wasn't working).
If you have CF8 locally, you can try doing a cfinvoke and capturing the data
using wireshark and then just replicating that with cfhttp.

RE: LDAP Query for group members

>Also, you need to specify the DELIMITER attribute in the CFLDAP tag.
Set it to a tab character chr(9). You won't be passing any tabs in your
filter, however, this prevents any errors because of the commas in the
group's distinguished name.

Ignore this part of my message. This is only needed if you are
specifying a distinguished name in the ATTRIBUTES attribute. Since you
are specifying the group's DN in the FILTER attribute, you don't need
the DELIMITER attribute.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm doing this from memory since I'm on a very

RE: LDAP Query for group members

2008-02-22 Thread Dawson, Michael

"(&(objectCategory=Person)(memberOf=DN=GroupName, OU=Org, DC=domain,
DC=com))"

I can parse this, but it's a mess because the
names look like this: CN=User.Name, OU=Users, OU=Location,
OU=Organization, DC=domain, DC=com, CN=User2.Name, OU=Users,.

Thanks!

Creating a report is single-threaded so CPU usage should get up to 6.25%
(12.5% if you have hyperthreading disabled). If it is significantly
slower then an older server that has an equal performance per thread you
should get some stacktraces to see what it is doing. It might be that
you are including images in your report and the processing is done in
Java instead of in native code due to a 32-bit vs. 64-bit issue.

Dude... you've really gotta lighten up. ;^)

Christ on a crutch: they're giving away toys. Yes they're so evil.

(And, by the way - the page clearly says that this is the original "fource"
and "their amazing friends" - thus the 7 characters. The 60's "Batman" only
spoofed the comic book conventions of the 50's, it didn't invent them and
Lucas doesn't own the word "Force" much less the word "Fource". These guys
only vaguely look like Lego Minifigs and, in any case, where designed by a
marketing firm that creates custom toys not MS.)

I'll bet if Apple did the same thing they'd be so "cute and kitschy" or
"irreverent". ;^)

RE: CFC protect from SQL Injection?

2008-02-22 Thread Bobby Hartsfield
It's obvious what not to do. Don't pass raw, unclean data to a query without
some type of insurance that it can't cause damage. Especially when the
column is numeric. I'd also advise anyone not to believe what you said about
cfquery 'automatically' protecting you 'most of the time' without
cfqueryparam since you didn't include 'as long as you use something else in
its place like val() on numeric fields'

You gave exmaples but are still begging for more so...

select username from users
where userid = #url.myvar#

I would think that this is a perfect example of a 'most of the time' case.

The first thing someone would do would be to assume that 'myvar' is also the
name of the db column. If they are correct, then things move right along. If
not, they will toss an invalid string in hopes to see an actual error
message complete with the full query. If they get it, they know the real
field(s), else they start guessing. If they are just passing by and trying,
they will most likely try a couple and move on if they don't get it. If it's
someone who has chosen the specific target, the odds are that they will keep
at it until they guess the column name(s).

If url.myvar is [1], the query tries to find the record where userid is 1
blah blah etc etc...
If url.myvar is [0 or 0=0] or [0%20or%200=0] then you might have a problem
since it would find all records.

If you have admins in the same table then the very first record is most
likely the author and therefore most likely the admin with the most rights
yes?

If url.myvar is [0 or 0=0 order by userid] or
[0%20or%201=1%20order%20by%20userid] then the first record is the one CF is
looking at

What to do to prevent it in this case?

where userid = #val(url.myvar)#
or
where userid =

if its being passed to a cfc, yes you can type it as an integer and be fine
but if you accidentally type it as a string then you are right back to the
same spot as you would be without typing it at all sicne CF is typeless and
will treat 0 as a string if that's what you tell it to do.

If you accidentally type an int to a varcahr in cfqueryparam, you'll still
be safe since cfqueryparam will not allow the string to be executed as a
statement.

And obviously, single quotes and semicolons aren't always needed for a sql
injection 'attack'.

It is, I've tested it. There is a lot of overhead in passing that many

This is true. Most of the time, it will perform slightly better. My point,
though, is that it's not necessary 100% of the time, and you should know how
to construct a query without it that doesn't have sql injection
vulnerabilities.

This is why I want to start the conversation and get some real world
examples of what not to do. Unfortunately, nobody has been able to provide
any so far...

2008-02-22 Thread Matthew Williams
I don't suppose you can set up a similar server, but install the 32-bit version
of the OS (I know, memory will be an issue depending on your Windows license).
Based on what MS has in this article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896456),
I'd point the finger at the fact that you're running 32-bit binaries on a
64-bit system. This snip in particular from the KB, "Some 32-bit programs may
run slower on these operating systems than they would on 32-bit versions of
Windows Server 2003 and of Windows XP. "

But I've not had to deal with this issue first hand (yet). Hopefully when
Adobe release the 64-bit binaries it well help your situation.

The fact that CF install specifically stated that it was only going to use 2

Re: Problems with CF8 Enterprise on multi-core processors, especially reports

2008-02-22 Thread Daniel Roberts
I looked through the hotfixes and they didn't appear to be relevant to my
situation.

The fact that CF install specifically stated that it was only going to use 2 of
8 processors lead me to believe that a licensing error was to blame for the
problems.

Problems with CF8 Enterprise on multi-core processors, especially reports

2008-02-22 Thread Daniel Roberts
We recently bought a new server--a dual 2gz quad-core 64bit xeon dell with 16GB
ram. When I installed CF8-Ent in CF server mode I got a message that 8
processors were detected and only two would be used per the CF license. However
that shouldn't be the case according to the CF FAQ which states that license is
for 2 physical processors which we have, including all cores. I contact Adobe
support about this issue and I'm still waiting to hear back.

I ran a complex report on our new server and it ran at about 1/20th the speed
of our current web server that is maybe 3 years old, 4GB ram, and currently
under live load. This is very frustrating. In viewing Windows Task Manager
during report creation on our older live server I see that the processor usage
can get upto 30-50% while creating a complex report. However on the new server
the CPU usage never gets above 4% and it takes forever for the report to
complete.

After reading more about the multi-server configuration option I un-installed
CF and re-installed it with the multi-server configuration. I didn't receive
the license message this time but the performance is no better so I believe it
is still using just 1 core per processor.

Has anyone run into the problem before? Are there severe drawbacks I should be
aware of about running ColdFusion, specifically report creation, on a
multi-core processor? Does it sound like the licensing problem is to blame and
once that is resolved all should be well?

LDAP Query for group members

2008-02-22 Thread Burns, John D
I'm trying to find out if there's a simpler way to do this than what I'm
doing. Currently, I'm querying a group from LDAP and retrieving the
attribute called Member which gives me this ugly result set of one
record with all of these domain users' distinguished names instead of
just the AD username. I can parse this, but it's a mess because the
names look like this: CN=User.Name, OU=Users, OU=Location,
OU=Organization, DC=domain, DC=com, CN=User2.Name, OU=Users,.

Thanks!

John Burns

I'd assume "Nightly Backups".

For example I've got a Virtual PC Server running here at home with
duplicates (my "Disaster Recovery" servers) of my production ColdFusion and
database servers. I use a SQL Server DTS (Data Transformation Services)
package scheduled to run every night at 3am which copies all data from the
production database to the DR database.

I don't actually do any backups for the CF server (since I only update it
from a development virtual server so it's always "backed up") but you could
easily script an FTP to copy any important files. Of course there are easy
to use automated tools as well.

You can also, of course, run an actual backup program in "difference" mode
which saves to a remote location - the initial backup would take a while
(even over broadband) but the nightly differences should be small.

More sensitive data might require quicker backups (hourly or even "live")
but that of course consumes more resources as well. Most databases have
methods for "subscribing" to data todo close-to-live backups (using log
shipping - which sends updates to one database's log files to another from
minute to minute is popular).

The bottom line is that you have your data (or at least the vast majority of
it) when things like this happen.

There are plenty of cheap or free options for all this stuff but it does
take some resources (time and sometimes equipment) but every pain will be
forgotten then first time that backup saves your hide. ;^)

RE: CFC protect from SQL Injection?

2008-02-22 Thread Paul Vernon
I know it's a bit late to join in on the conversation but, here goes...

Firstly, to answer the original question, my experience is that type
checking in functions kills a lot but not all injection attacks but
cfqueryparam catches the more intricate injection attacks where the input is
a string however I do believe that even cfqueryparam is not perfect.

Where possible, if you can use a RegEx to validate the string based input
data so that they fit the exact format you are wanting and couple it with
type checking and cfqueryparam, you *should* be impervious but YMMV. The key
here is look for good input rather than bad input. It's easier to define
what is acceptable than second guess someone that is determined and skilled
enough to invent an new form of injection just for you!

The real issues with SQL injection these days fall under the banner term of
"blind sql injection" (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=blind+SQL+injection)
and are particularly fun to play with.

IMO, with automated tools like SQLiX being freely available that scan for
easy SQL injection targets, it doesn't make sense to do anything but secure
your code to the best of your ability with a good knowledge of your chosen
language and make best use of the features it provides.

Other things to do if you can is to check your logs. I see multiple SQL
injection attempts every day on our servers. The clever ones try to cloak
themselves to... e.g. including sp_password in a query instantly tells SQL
Server not to log this query for security reasons. If that injection attempt
is done via a post mechanism, it won't show up in the web server logs
either... Fun!

Here are a few links to the highlights of what Google turned up when looking
into SQL Injection attacks and prevention thereof.

http://www.webappsec.org/projects/articles/091007.shtml

http://www.imperva.com/resources/adc/blind_sql_server_injection.html

There are some other good articles on the rest of imperva's site but
registration is required for most.
http://www.imperva.com/resources/whitepapers.html

Some SQL injection examples can be found here:

Other slightly "dark-side" of the net links include:

http://sla.ckers.org/forum/list.php?16

http://ha.ckers.org/

Amongst other things, this article documents detecting stored procedures and
possible injections that will work in some cases. I don't see why some of
these may work with CFQueryparam too...

Depends on your risks, how much data you can afford to lose, etc. etc.

As a basic belt and braces for a low traffic site, emailing a DB dump off site
may suffice, given you can probably set up new hosting* in less than a day if
you don't have a load balanced or redundant site set up already.

RE: CFC protect from SQL Injection?

2008-02-22 Thread Russ
CFqueryparam is not always beneficial. Lets say you are doing a batch
insert with 1000 records. The cfqueryparam method is going to be a LOT
slower.

Additionally, everyone keeps talking about how you should use cfqueryparam
to avoid sql injection, but nobody has shown me an example of sql injection
without cfqueryparam. I think I can get the same results from val.

There are only two cases I can think of where sql injection is possible.

Select * from users
Where userId=#url.userId#

This is solved easily by using val

Select * from users
Where userId=#val(url.userId)#

Or type checking

Select * from users
Where userId=#val(url.userId)#

Case 2:

Select * from users
Where username=#PreserveSingleQuotes(url.userName)#

Here of course, I had to go through the trouble of making the query not
secure.

Everyone keeps talking about SQL injection this, and SQL injection that, but
I would like to see some examples. I think CF is a very powerfull language
and cfquery takes care of sql injection attacks automatically most of the
time even without cfqueryparam.

RE: How to populate a table from a query?

2008-02-22 Thread Bobby Hartsfield
Number 3 of that blog will result in invalid html ( with no s)
anytime that the last row has exactly 4 items in it. Try this... I Changed 4
to 2 of course.

I blogged on it here:

tml

It looks like you want #3 and just change the 'mod' to 2.

Subject: How to populate a table from a query?

I wish to dynamically populate table across columns and rows, like:

++-+
|#query.row1#| #query.row2#|
++-+
|#query.row3#|#query.row4# |
++-+
|#query.row5#| etc. etc.

where the number of rows returned by the query is uncertain, but I want a 2
col by X rows display of the results.

I am not sure how to do this. I think it might be something like

[do the query]

[stick the results into an ordered list so I can reference individual
members of the list]

[loop over the list]

[output the results like:

++-+
|#list1# | #list2# |
++-+
|#list3# | #list4# |
++-+
|#list5# | etc. etc.

but this seems needlessly complex. Why not just loop over the query, but I
am not sure how to spread the results across two columns as shown above.

Is there a simpler way to approach it?

Rick Colman

Re: The unofficial ahphosting status thread

2008-02-22 Thread Terry Schmitt
That's sorta lame. I think we're all capable of making the decision to stay or
go and not to mention which host we would choose.
I'm sure that any host out there is happy to provide service. What makes you so
special? (don't bother answering here)

Re: Get time zone for address?

2008-02-22 Thread Andrew Powell
As far as I know, there is a shapefile that defines timezones which
will work with ESRI's ArcMAP. So this, along with ArcGIS, lets you
get the lat/lon from the address then get the tz from the shapefile.
There is no guaranteed easy way (or cheap way) to do this.
