Re: Distributed mode install problems

2010-07-06 Thread Andrew Clarke

I managed to resolve this. The link at
http://www.codecurry.com/2010/01/coldfusion-manual-configuration-issues.html
was very helpful. I never could get wsconfig working, but was able to
configure the IIS connection manually. I think the first time through there
were still some loose ends left over from the old ColdFusion 7 installations,
and I was also probably getting feedback on the server from the other CF9
instance that has to go on there.

This is probably the sort of thing I should blog about, but I don't know how
some of you find the time to blog after spending the time it takes to sort out
the issues!

The main thing to know about the link above if you're using it on a distributed
host, is that all the DLLs and setup files need to go on the web server, and
point to the app server.

We use smarter mail here to support about 50 domains (less than 1000 users).
Works great and we are preparing to upgrade to the latest and greatest :)

SmarterMail has been GREAT. I switched from a customized qmail solution,
and smartermail can handle joe-jobs really well, has great anti-spam
configuration and customization per-domain, and uses ClamAV for killing
viruses dead. Outbound spam mitigation too.

Combined with the ActiveSync license, it works flawlessly with my
Droid/touchdown app as far as push technology goes.

Can't recommend it enough, and no, I don't work for SmarterTools.

Re: NetSuite Single Sign-On

2010-07-06 Thread Mike Chabot

I've interfaced with NetSuite before from a CF Web site, although the
goal was to exchange data between the two applications, which isn't an
SSO solution. To create a single-sign-on solution might involve a
cfhttp post, assuming you have the NetSuite passwords available from
the CF application. This is a project I worked on many years ago, so I
forget exactly what is involved. I didn't use any SSOUrl class.

Re: ordering by lowest price (across two columns)

2010-07-06 Thread Carl Von Stetten

You'll need to put the same IF statement into the order by clause. SQL will
only sort on columns that actually exist in the table, not dynamically
calculated columns (such as your orderprice alias).

SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS P.normalprice, P.saleprice,
IF(P.saleprice < P.normalprice, P.saleprice, P.normalprice) as orderprice
FROM product P

AND orderprice >=
AND orderprice <=

ORDER BY IF(P.saleprice < P.normalprice, P.saleprice, P.normalprice)

extra for experts...

though the following would work, but gives error...

SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS P.normalprice, P.saleprice,
IF(P.saleprice < P.normalprice, P.saleprice, P.normalprice) as orderprice
FROM product P

AND orderprice >=
AND orderprice <=

ORDER BY orderprice

if i replace orderprice with "P.normalprice >= ..." it works. however i want it
to see which is the lowest first.

Each instance is running on a different port so specifying the port might be
all you need.

This of course assumes there is no firewall blocking access to those ports.

If so, and the task is just a utility that only you or the app will access
(scheduled task or something) you could try by serverIP or serverName to
avoid external firewall rules.

You can create comma lists in T-SQL, if that is what you want to do.
T-SQL is the Microsoft-flavor of SQL. I'm not sure if that is what you
are using.

So instead of
1 A
1 B
2 A

you would get
1 A,B
2 A

Distributed mode install problems

2010-07-06 Thread Andrew Clarke

I'm trying to install ColdFusion 9 in distributed mode for the first time.
I've installed CF9 on the app server, and an trying to run wsconfig on the
Windows 2003/IIS web server. However, when I try to run this from the web
server:

D:\ColdFusion9_anotherinstance\runtime\jre\bin\java -jar
d:\cfinstalltmp\wsconfig.jar -ws IIS -site "1" -map .cfm,.cfc,.cfml,.jsp -v
-host 192.168.16.18

It just sits there thinking for a long time and then comes back with the
following error:

D:\ColdFusion9_anotherinstance\runtime\jre\bin\java -jar
d:\cfinstalltmp\wsconfig.jar
-ws IIS -site "1" -map .cfm,.cfc,.cfml,.jsp -v -host 192.168.16.18
Created file D:\cfinstalltmp\wsconfig\jrunwin32.dll
Could not connect to any JRun/ColdFusion servers on host 192.168.16.18.
Possible causes:
o Server not running
-Start Macromedia JRun4 or ColdFusion 9 server
o Server running
-JNDI listen port in jndi.properties blocked by TCP/IP filtering or firewall
  on server
-host restriction in security.properties blocking communication with server

This particular client has everything locked down, but they (say they) have
opened up all the firewall ports between the computers for now. I've done a
small bit of poking around and that does appear to be the case.

I'm using the default port of 2932 for the JNDI naming port. If I run the
wsconfig GUI and enter my web server IP in the appropriate box, I get the same
problem. The box sits there hung for a while and gives me the same error but
inside a dialogue box. If I turn off ColdFusion on the app server, then the
error comes up right away. This leads me to believe that they are successfully
connecting but then are having problems somewhere after that.

I've also tried different settings with the jrun.trusted.hosts and
jrun.subnet.restriction options in security.properties but nothing I've tried
so far has helped.

Other potential headaches here are that both servers are connected via two
separate networks, and that I have a second CF9 instance
(d:\ColdFusion9_anotherinstance in the example above) running on the web
server, on a different IIS web site.

If someone could provide some insight on this issue, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
- Andrew.

Good for you! This beats the crap out of Verity and SQL.

Well, in the simplest case, you don't have to do anything to connect
CF to it, really. It can simply crawl your content. You'll probably
want to build a search form on your site, but that form can send data
directly to your appliance, which in turn can return an HTML page of
results. You can customize the results page by writing XSLT.
Alternatively, you can use CFHTTP to send a query to the appliance,
and have it return unformatted XML data directly to your application;
you could then format it however you like. The specific documentation
for building a search request and processing the response is here:

http://code.google.com/apis/searchappliance/documentation/64/xml_reference.html

We've used the appliance with many of our clients' CF sites, and they
work very well together!

If you're interested in learning more about the appliance, from
configuration and maintenance to programming against it, Fig Leaf
Software offers a three-day GSA class, available at our locations and
online:

http://training.figleaf.com/courses/googlegsa.cfm

We're a Google Enterprise Partner, the first company outside of Google
to be authorized to offer GSA training, and we provide GSA training on
behalf of Google itself for other Google partners. If you're going to
manage the appliance, I think you'll find the training very
worthwhile.

If you're just going to be working with it from a development
perspective, and just need answers to specific questions, I'd
recommend the Google Search Appliance group:

CF9 and Google Search Appliance

2010-07-06 Thread Rob Barthle

A site I maintain is going to start using the Google Search Appliance for local
searches. It originally was a combination Verity/SQL database search, then
moved to a Google custom search, and now to this.

I have zero experience with this, and am looking for guides and tutorials on
how best to connect CF to it. So far all I am turning up is very limited and on
average 2-4 years old, if the links even work.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Query returning a list for a JOIN

2010-07-06 Thread Claude Schnéegans

Hi,

There is something I cannot figure a simple way of doing it, either in
SQL or in CF.

JOINS in SQl are relly handful, but sometimes, they can generate qute
big queries for nothing.
Suppose I have this:
SELECT , table2.justOneColumn
FROM table1
LEFT JOIN table2 ON table1.column1 = table2.column2

Suppose that Table2 contains a rather large number of records for each
record in table1.
The result will be a pretty large data set, with most information
repeated in all columns except for justOneColumn, quite a useless overhead.
What would be much more efficient in some instances would be to have
only one row for every record in table1, all rows in the join table
represented by a list. Something like:
SELECT , LISTOF(table2.justOneColumn)
FROM table1
LEFT JOIN table2 ON table1.column1 = table2.column2

I do not see anything like this in SQL;
Of course, it could be done in CF using a GROUP in a CFOUTPUT to create
a new Query, but the overhead would be worse.
Any Idea ?

Here's my theory, a space is inserted when the field is left blank when

Simply added in NULL for the else, but that was a no go. Again, it
passed through the submitting of the form, but the date still showed up
as the default 01/01/1900 date. So far I've been able to figure out

RE: Hosting Inquiry

2010-07-06 Thread Eric Roberts

A VPS would have either windows or Linux as the OS...it is essentially like
having a dedicated server. So you would have virtual sites/aliases with IIS
or apache just as you would on a dedicated server.

The email accounts would really depend on what you install for email. My
suggestion, though, would be to use Google apps for your email. Having your
email on a separate and unrelated server has it's benefits...plus Google is
free ;-)

Generally they should be firewalled on the main OS. I don't think that is
handled at the virtual OS level. Not sure about antivirus, but it wouldn't
hurt, I guess...unless that would interfere or not work right on a VPS...to
have one. I would ask the provider.

Yes, you should be able to just install it yourself with no issues, though
someone more familiar with CF licensing would be able to answer that better.
A VPS, again, is just like having a dedicated box as far as being able to
install things.

If you don't want to go to the expense of buying a license of SQL server,
might I suggest MySQL?

This is actually pretty timely...I need to simplify my current web hosting
mess.

If I had a VPS account, does that mean that I can host as many domains as I
needed (I want to centralize about a half-dozen sites)? Or would I need an
IP address per domain?

Do VPS hosts offer tools for administering email accounts, etc., or would I
have to do all of that stuff manually?

Do VPS hosts take care of things like firewall and antivirus, or is that for
the customer to worry about?

Assuming that I had my own CF license (I do), would I need to pay any
additional fees, or should I just be able to install it myself?

I realize that some of these questions might differ from provider to
provider. The sites that I would need to centralize are generally
low-traffic sites, and I think I could get by with MS SQL Server Express, a
single CPU core, and 1GB of RAM.

Thanks,

Pete

Re: Target particular instance

2010-07-06 Thread Svetlin Roussev

Thank you Dave, what I am trying to do is when I am hitting one of my sites
I want the site to run on particular instance, not just random. I am running
bunch of sites with Model Glue and simply when I make a change to the model
or to the controller I have to go an clear the cache and with adding
?init=true in the url I can do it but only on that instance that I am on it.
And the problem is that I have four instances so I want to be able to target
particular instance and do ?init=true to clear the cache on that instance.
Currently I am doing that by restarting services on all instances. Or is
there a better way to do this in Model Glue...?
Thank you.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do you want to execute a specific
request on a specific cluster member?

To support sticky sessions, you can force a request to use a specific
instance by appending a JSESSIONID to the URL where the first 4
characters of the JSESSIONID are the same as value for server.id in
the /SERVER-INF/connector.properties file.

Alternatively, you can provide HTTP access to the individual cluster
members separate from access to the cluster itself. Typically, I use
the JRun web server for this. I'll have that enabled for every cluster
member, and use IIS or Apache for the cluster itself. I think it's
possible to configure individual cluster members to use IIS or Apache,
then configure the cluster itself to use the same web server, but it's
not nearly as easy to do this in my opinion.

If, on the other hand, you simply want to identify which cluster
member is running the current request, you can include some code for
that:

I recommend that you focus on getting CF working with sendmail before
you try using Google Apps, as that'll greatly simplify
troubleshooting.

At this point, you might as well stop. If you get an error here, CF
won't send mail.

What happens if you log in as the same user that CF is running as
(cfusion), and attempt to send mail to sendmail via telnet?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to send emails using the CFMAIL tag. I know how it is done and
have tried every possible way to figure out why it isn't working. Coldfusion
9 64-bit is running on a CentOS 5.4 x64 box with Apache 64-bit installed. It
is neither sending email through smtp.gmail.com (Google App account) nor
with localhost (sendmail server.)

I've tried following way so far:

1. Tried to verify my mail server connections (both to Gmail and
sendmail) using the Coldfusion administrator, however, always get following
error: Connection Verification Failed!

2. Enabled mail log and have set the log level to Debug. Still don't
see any error in the mail.log file. It does keep updating with spool related
information but no error or details about connection to the mail server.

3. I know correct port and SSL settings required to connect to the
Gmail smtp server.

4. Coldfusion is running as user cfusion in developer mode.

5. This is a new installation on a fresh CentOS box at a client's site
and I've tried reinstalling Coldfusion a couple of times already.

6. Coldfusion is connected properly with Apache version 2.2_15.

7. I tried sending email using sendmail using the command-line and it
went through.

8. I also tried to send email using a PHP script and it works,
however, I can't rely on it as it deliver email very slow and I need to fix
my installation.

9. If I enter localhost in SMTP field, uncheck SSL and check Verify
connection and hit the Submit button in the CF Administrator, it gives
Connection Verification Failed! Error instantly. However, with Gmail, when
the SSL and Verify connection is checked, and port is set to 465 it take a
while (about 20-40 seconds) to give the message Connection Verification
Failed! I'm passing correct login credentials each time. As I mentioned in
the point above it does work from command-line and PHP work with same mail
server settings and login credentials and same CentOS box/Apache
installation.

10. IP, host name, trusted users, network config and Firewall all seems to
be setup quite properly.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong here? Where should I look in
my server to get more details? Again, neither sendmail nor Gmail works. I've
looked in server.log and mail.log. Not sure what's happening.

Best,

Sagar Gupta

Re: CFMAP/JavaScript help

2010-07-06 Thread Michael Grant

I'm going to guess the problem is that the js is seeing your object as a
string.
I *think* this would work. Can't say for sure without testing it. I can
never remember weather you can use this.value with a select and have it
work. You may need to change it
to this.options[this.selectedIndex].value.split('|')[0] to target the value.

Doesn't CentOS come with a firewall enabled by default? That, and
maybe IPTables? If your connection won't verify, I doubt that mail will
ever go out. You may need to poke about CentOS to open ports to allow
outbound to the google mail servers.

CFMAP/JavaScript help

2010-07-06 Thread Pete Ruckelshaus

I'm having a bit of trouble getting some JavaScript working with CFMAP. I
currently use a link to center the map and zoom in on a specific location;
this code works fine:

Zoom

Due to the number of locations on the map, I want to provide users with a
way of selecting a location from a dropdown list, and then having the map
zoom and center on the selected location using an onchange event handler in
the select tag. I feel like this would work, but it doesn't:

 Select Location
 #getMapLocations.name#

The error that I'm getting is:

Uncaught ColdFusion.Map.setCenter: center should be a textual address or
latitude/longitude pair, id: map1

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Pete

Re: CFMAIL isn't working at all

2010-07-06 Thread Mike Kear

I find CFMAIL issues amongst the most difficult to debug, because you get
such vague or even non-existent indications of problems.Often the only
indication you get that your CFMAIL is wrong, is you dont receive any email.

[A] I would check that you have all the required settings for your mail
server. For example, in our system, the username is the full complete email
address, not just the part to the left of the @.

[B] Check that you have the server= attribute and the username= and
password= correct in the CFMAIL tag. Our system blocks any mail coming
from anywhere that doesnt have the correct authentication to prevent
spammers exploiting our mail server. Yours may well be the same. Your
support people at eworks.in will be able to tell you this.

[C] check that you have no syntax errors in the message. If your message is
built using coldfusion, and you have an error in your code there, you'll
not get an error message, you'll just get nothing at all. I would
verify that you can indeed send emails using CFMAIL by sending one with a
very simple content like "TEST" to eliminate this as a possible culprit.

[D] check that your isp doesnt block some ports. My isp (iinet.net.au)
for example, blocks port 25 by default to help reduce hacking, but can be
enabled if you need it (we do in order to pass mail through to the remote
mail server).

In this case, I think you're not making a connection to the server, but
once you get through that obstacle, the others may well show themselves too.
I think the most likely is [D] above.

Hope this helps.
