Re: CF9 java applet error. any solutions?

If you've upgraded to the Java 7 JVM (1.7.x) on your desktop, the error
may be due to a new security feature. Take a look at this thread on the
Adobe forums: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1433308?tstart=0

These are two separate issues. The RDS thing only applies to the
applets used in the CF Administrator. But applets breaking in custom
applications can happen when the client changes JVMs in some cases, or
has some other issue with the downloaded JAR file.

Russ is this a new thing? I have an application that used to work ok
using CFGRID all over the placeSuddely they dont work.I had to run
through the whole app and change the CFGRID's to tables and recode them.

Are you saying that something's changed in ColdFusion that those applets
can never work safely in production because they rely on RDS?

Re: onApplicationStart and cfmail, when doess server start?

2014-04-01 Thread Bobby

The next thing that comes to mind is to parse the CF server.log file for
the instance you are targeting. There are log entries for stopping and
starting in there. ButŠ I¹m guessing you are wanting this to be used as an
alert not post-portem investigation.

There are plenty of infrastructure monitoring applications and 3rd party
services out there for monitoring your production servers (including the
services). My company uses PRTG for performance/service monitoring
(http://www.paessler.com/prtg) to cover all of our different servers. Im
mostly responsible for the health of our CF servers though and
FusionReactor works great for me. If you set it up correctly, it can
notify you of service availability changes.

None of the above actual means that a server was ³rebooted² though and a
CF service stopping/starting also doesn¹t mean that someone manually
triggered it.

Also, keep in mind that something running ON the server that is supposed
to send you this email is probably not going to work if its running on the
service you are trying to monitor.

The behavior you explained is expected. onApplicationStart() isn¹t
triggered until the first request to the application.

Re: onApplicationStart and cfmail, when doess server start?

2014-04-01 Thread Rodney Enke

That is correct behavior. An application does not start until a page
within its scope is requested. You have a few options though.

Use onServerStart (CF 9+).
Use another server to monitor it.
Use a third party program such as FusionReactor. I highly recommend it and
it's well worth the money spent.

ApplicationStart does not fire until the Application is hit. You're looking

the java applets in the cfadmin, such a sthe file browser, require that RDS
be enabled, which you should not do on a production server.

Re: how to check if a remote file exists

2014-04-01 Thread Michael L Gueterman

As Russ mentions, *if* you have access to the file from the CF server (which
you would need in order for the 'FileExists' function to work), then you could
use a
tag. If you can get to it via FTP use a
tag. You may need to alter your method for determining if the file exists
though. If
you need to use HTTP or FTP, then you can always try to get the file and if you
get an error, handle it appropriately (ex. the file isn't there, etc).

Re: CF9 java applet error. any solutions?

2014-04-01 Thread Mike K

If i go to that url, Dave, I get a messages asking if i want to open or
save cfapplets.jar, so I guess that url is exposed.

I'm running the browser on my dev machine over the internet, rather than
the server console. When I run the CFAdministrator on the server itself,
i get the message:
This applet displays a file-tree of the server to enable the user to browse
its contents. Your browser is not configured correctly to use java applets.
Please install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and be sure to install
the browser plugins
So I assume the JVM is not running on the server. Since you mention it,
I checked and my dev machine gives the same result for both the server's
CFServer and my dev machine's CFServer.

Yeah they are really great guys! And $10 for a full month of manage support is
a STEAL. :) I’ve used it on a month by month basis a couple times when I’ve

I'm glad you got things worked out. I've had to call VivioTech support a
few times myself and they always answer the phone quickly and are helpful.
The managed support is worth it when you are trying to troubleshoot a
problem and for the handful of my customers who are hosted there, I always
suggest that they get the managed plan.

They have even helped me once or twice with I didn't have a managed plan,
but I asked super nice knowing they didn't have to help me.

Are you running the browser on the CF server itself - for example, to
access the CF Administrator? Typically, the browser on your server
might not have a JVM installed.

Or, if that's not the problem, maybe you haven't exposed the URL path
for those applets to be downloaded. What happens if you go to this
URL?

Re: SOT - Navicat Identity Column

2014-04-01 Thread Byron Mann

Believe this is how Navicat works if the table already exists. I have
version 10 and can only set the identity column and other optional values
if the table is new and has not been saved yet.

Alternately, I would suggest writing SQL to do the task.

Also you could download SQL Server Express as it comes with SQL Management
Studio, which is much better at managing SQL Server installations and
databases. Bonus it's free.

https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/pd/SQLEXP/enus/

Of course this is all Windows reliant.

Re: SOT - Navicat Identity Column

Kevin,
I seem remember that in design mode you select the column that you want to use
as identity and at the bottom of the screen there is a selector to set it as
identity. I don't have it in front of me, but seem to remember it there. You
can also set defaults in the same panel.

Hope that helps.

Re: how to check if a remote file exists

2014-04-01 Thread Bobby

What is running on your w2k3 server? Is there a web server through which
the source/txt file is accessible? If so, sure, cfhttp can go out and grab
it over HTTP. Being a txt file, you wouldn't have to do anything fancy,
just point CFHTTP to the txt URL and then read the resulting file content
or even use the path and file attributes of CFHTTP to read and save the
file at the same time.

If there is no web server on the W2k3 server that holds the file, then
your options change.

If the two servers are on the same network, then you could run the CF
service as an account that has access to reach the file over UNC then just
use the UNC paths like you would normal paths in your cffile tag(s).

If they are not on the same network (and you can¹t set them up that way),
then there are many ways that you could have the w2k3 server ³send² the
file to the other machine when it generates it. I believe you said there
is a visual fox pro app on the w2k3 box. If you control that app and can
change it, it is capable of POSTing a file to a URL (url being a page you
setup on your CF server to accept a multipart/form-data post to upload the
file).

If you can¹t edit the VFP app, then you could install CURL on the W2k3 box
and still do the same thingŠ Have CURL post the file to a page you set up
on your CF server. Your CURL command would be a one liner that you could
either schedule with windows scheduler or you could set up a service on
the w2k3 box to monitor changes to the txt file and trigger the POST
automatically anytime it changes.

SOT - Navicat Identity Column

2014-04-01 Thread Kevin Parker

At the risk of sounding a little daft or maybe missing something that is
plainly obvious if anyone uses Navicat to design MS SQL tables I'd be
grateful for a little help please. I am trying to set an Identity column but
all the identity attributes (identity, seeding, incrementing etc.) are
greyed out for the column of choice, in fact all columns of any type - have
set the column as an int - Navicat help is extremely basic and unhelpful and
Googling it wasn't much better.

I'm using Navicat Premium v 11

Thank you!!

Re: how to check if a remote file exists

if you have direct access tot he server with the file then you would use
CFFILE to copy it.
If the file is only accessible over the web, then you can use CFHTTP to
grab the file content and save to your local server. You will of course not
get the raw file, only what is displayed in a browser.
