Re: DW versions that supported CF

2014-04-30 Thread Bruce Sorge

Carl,
I know. I was one of the original testers of CF11 and Builder 3, but I had
to stop testing. I am still on Active Duty and I am also a full time
college student, and since I didn't have any actual CF projects (only PHP
at the time), I didn't have the time to dedicate to any real testing. Once
I finish these four classes and graduate school, I plan to install CF11 (on
my VMWare partition since there are features that don't work on a Mac) and
buy Builder 3 and start back into working with the two.

Re: DW versions that supported CF

2014-04-30 Thread Bruce Sorge

On my machine using CC, I just told it to open .cfm files with dreamweaver by
default, then it works. I even have tag insight. What it won't do is create a
.cfm file. I have to do a file -> save-as .cfm. I think that I need to
embrace the new builder going forward.

Re: Getting output into a div using cfdocument

Tried that. It spits out a huge chunk of div tags that actually generates the
barcode styles. When I put that into the cfdocument (as I would if I stuck it
all in a db then called it later via a query) and nothing. I think that it has
to do with css and generating a pdf, not sure. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Getting output into a div using cfdocument

2013-08-29 Thread Bruce Sorge

Hey all,
I decided to try and use the query barcode plugin for an app that I have out
there. The app queries a database and then creates and emails PDF's to
customers who bought a voucher. The voucher includes a barcode. Previously I
was using a barcode generator from barcode.tec-it.com, but the barcode prints
their company name on it. No big deal except that I have to call their
generator with each one, and if the company goes under or for waterer reason I
cannot access their site, then barcodes do not generate.

So I can get my barcodes to generate on a regular .cfm page using the following
code:

SELECT user_id, Name, Address_1, City, State, Zip, Email, BarCode,
ACC_Code, BirthDate, Deal_Name, DateRegistered, Time_Registered,
Confirmation_Number
FROM Users
WHERE DateRegistered = '#DateFormat(Yesterday,"mm/dd/")#' AND BarCode
IS NOT NULL

$(document).ready(function() {
$("##bcTarget").barcode("#BarCode#", "code39",{barWidth:2, barHeight:30});
});

Now when I move this div tag inside my cfdocument tag, I get no barcode. I am
not sure if it's a css issue (the plug in defaults to css, and I cannot get the
bmp to output). Any thoughts?

Re: Adobe no longer supports ColdFusion??? Really?

2013-06-18 Thread Bruce Sorge

I'll admit that I usually do my design work in DW, or Photoshop (slice and
dice when done), and then once I have my design the way I want it, I'll
switch to code view and hand code my CF into the page(s). I find that to be
much easier than hand coding the entire thing. Except CSS. I usually hand
code CSS.

I recently got back into using CF Builder though as I like it once I got
used to it. I will still use DW or PS for layout and design, but then
switch to builder for the real work.

Embarrassed that I made this beginner mistake. I have about six or so more

Easy CFC question (I hope)

2013-05-09 Thread Bruce Sorge

Hey,
I am doing a project for my CF class in college. I admit that I have not played
with CFC's in a while, but I cannot figure out why this is not working:

INSERT INTO users
(username, userpwd, fname, lname, email, secureHash)
VALUES ('#arguments.username#', '#securepwd#',
'#arguments.fname#', '#arguments.lname#', '#arguments.email#', '#secureHash#')

SELECT fname, lname, email, secureHash
FROM users
WHERE userid = #newID#

The information enters into the db as expected, but when I invoke the component
on the other end:

I get the error message The value returned from the adduser function is not of
type query. If the component name is specified as a return type, it is possible
that either a definition file for the component cannot be found or is not
accessible. The error occurred on line 16.

Also, I know that there are a few things that could be fixed/tidied up
regarding hashing and such, but this class is not on encryption or anything
like that, it's so that the instructor see's that I have a basic understanding
of CF. The book for the class is CFWAC for version 9, so it's beginner level
stuff.

I am stumped

2013-04-10 Thread Bruce Sorge

I have a site where a user is only supposed to register for one deal. I have
this query:

SELECT Name, Birthdate, Email
FROM Users
WHERE Name =
AND Birthdate =
OR Email =

I then do this:

#Form.SHIPTONAME#,
It appears that you have already registered for this deal. You can click
the back button and enter another's information or quit the application. You
can only register an individual for one deal only.

blah blah blah

Well today someone managed to register more than once. In the db, the only
difference is the birthdate, which should not matter since I am checking for
their name, birthdate or email. The name and email in both records are
identical. I ran this query against the db several times using different
birth-dates and every time I get the records, which means the name/email search
is working. I suspect that this person tried for a while to get around this
since her registrations were about an hour apart. Is there something that I am
overlooking in the query? How would she have gotten by this? I am guessing I
missed something very simple.

Thanks,

Bruce

I don't understand the statement of a Mac owning me. I was a windows user since
it first came out and a DOS user before then. In switched to a Mac about a year
ago and I love it. I have CF10 running with apache, MySQL and php all working
great. Using Adobe creative cloud for dev and I have no complaints. Once you
get used to working in the terminal macs are easy to use and my machine in no
way owns me. Just saying. And for the occasional instance where I HAVE to use
windows, I have windows 8 running with bootcamp. No complaints and Windows 8
screams on the Mac. Having 8 gigs of RAM helps too.

Re: CFFILE Issue

2013-03-07 Thread Bruce Sorge

Hi Dave,
On my dev machine it did not exist, but it worked, and it worked on the live
server. The only real change I made was I created a new directory in the admin
folder called pdf so that the new one's get generated there. I updated the
permissions on my dev machine to read/write for the cf user but no joy even
when creating the pdf directory in the tmp directory. When I went the
#expandpath()# route though, and pointed the PDF's to the directory where the
other one's are written, it worked fine. It's just outside of the admin folder
but I really don't care since the other one is also outside of the admin
directory. I was just trying to keep add admin stuff inside the admin folder.

CFFILE Issue

2013-03-07 Thread Bruce Sorge

I am having something strange going on today with my dev machine. I have an app
that writes a PDF:

It has been working great, but today when I ran it I was given an java.io error
that a folder did not exist. Funny thing was that it was looking at the
following path:

ColdFusion10\cfusion\runtime\work\catalina\localhost\tmp\pdf.
But as you can see in my cffile I am pointing to a local folder called PDF that
is in the same directory as the .CFM file calling it. Any ideas?

Also, this is a duplicate of another app that I have that does the exact same
thing, and it works fine. That app is in another directory, and the only
difference is that this new one allows the site admin to generate a PDF for one
customer where the other app I have sends PDF's to all users who bought
something the day prior.

Thanks,

Bruce

A little help with jquery/cfm

2013-02-12 Thread Bruce Sorge

Hey all,
I have an app that is running great. User enters a code into a form field, and
it checks the db to see if it's valid. If not they can't move on. Problem is
that now the customer wants to be able to enter either the 2-5 character code
OR the long name. For instance, you could enter AS or Adaptive Sports. I am not
sure how to add this functionality into this code below as I did not write the
query, I found it on-line and modified it for my site.

JQuery:

pic1 = new Image(16, 16);
pic1.src = "images/loader.gif";

$(document).ready(function(){

$("#orgname").change(function() {

var usr = $("#orgname").val();

if(usr.length >= 2)
{
$("#status").html(' Checking
Code...');

$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "checkcode.cfm",
data: "orgname="+ usr,
success: function(msg){

$("#status").ajaxComplete(function(event, request, settings){

if(msg == 'OK')
{
$("#orgname").removeClass('object_error'); // if necessary
$("#orgname").addClass("object_ok");

$(this).html('  ');
}
else
{
$("#orgname").removeClass('object_ok'); // if necessary
$("#orgname").addClass("object_error");
$(this).html(msg);

}});}});}
else
{
$("#status").html('The Code should have at least 2 characters.');
$("#orgname").removeClass('object_ok'); // if necessary
$("#orgname").addClass("object_error");
}});});

//-->

Here is the check code.cfm page:

   SELECT orgname, orglongname
   FROM organizations

#available#

Hopefully someone can help. The client put out a huge email blast today and
then as an afterthought wanted the added functionality since someone already
tried to enter the long name rather than the code as instructed.

Thanks,

Bruce

Re: Nesting Issue?

So I managed to resolve this issue. Here is what I did:

Create the document:

Set the folder location for the PDF to be created

Write the pdf to the server, creating a unique name from the user_id field in
the DB

Attach the PDF to the email using the unique file

Dear #Name#,
Attached please find your voucher for #Deal_Name#

Crisis averted and we are going live now.

Nesting Issue?

2013-02-08 Thread Bruce Sorge

Hey all,
I have an app that at midnight each day, queries a database and fires of an
email with a .PDF attachment for a ski voucher. The problem is that each person
is getting not only their voucher but the others who registered as well. Here
is what I am doing:

SELECT Name, Address_1, Address_2, City, State, Zip, Email, BarCode,
ACC_Code, BirthDate, Deal_Name, DateRegistered, Time_Registered,
Confirmation_Number
FROM MAH.Users
WHERE DateRegistered = '#DateFormat(Yesterday,"mm/dd/")#' AND BarCode
IS NOT NULL

Voucher formatting goes here

Email message here

When I dump the information I get one row of the users information with X
number of barcodes. What do I need to do to ensure that the intended recipient
only receives their barcode? I am sure it's simple but again, I have been out
of the CF game a while and the obvious is escaping me.

Spammers are stupid

2012-12-30 Thread Bruce Sorge

So since occasional messages from this list and random legitimate emails from
other sources somehow end up in my spam folder, I actually have to look at the
folder contents. As I was moving legitimate messages out, I came across an ad
about BBW dating. Funny thing was, the girl in the picture was anything but
BBW. Very much in shape actually. I wonder if the idiot who actually took the
time to create the graphic actually knows what a BBW is.
Spammers make me laugh, and after being up for over 24 hours because I had duty
yesterday, I needed a good laugh.

Happy New Year

Re: AJAX Issue

Thanks Ray, I'll look into this for sure. And yeah, I am wrapping all the pages
in a header, footer and nab in the application.cfc. I'll switch it to an
include in the page instead. I've been out of web development for about 4 years
and have obviously fallen behind the knowledge curve. Thanks for the input I'll
work on this stuff tomorrow.

AJAX Issue

2012-12-20 Thread Bruce Sorge

OK, so I gave up on the Spry version of the database validation and moved onto
AJAX (a language I really don't know a lot about but I am slowly figuring it
out). Anyway, I have the code working the way I want with the exception that
when the validation is done, whether the code is valid or not, the page is
reloading and showing an overlay or something of the page. If you go to
http://www.makeaherodonations.com/themovement/ you'll see what I am talking
about. It's weird and I have been trying to figure this out. Here is the script:

pic1 = new Image(16, 16);
pic1.src = "images/loader.gif";

$(document).ready(function(){

$("#orgname").change(function() {

var usr = $("#orgname").val();

if(usr.length >= 2)
{
$("#status").html(' Checking
Code...');

$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "checkcode.cfm",
data: "orgname="+ usr,
success: function(msg){

$("#status").ajaxComplete(function(event, request, settings){

if(msg == 'OK')
{
$("#orgname").removeClass('object_error'); // if necessary
$("#orgname").addClass("object_ok");
$(this).html('  ');
}
else
{
$("#orgname").removeClass('object_ok'); // if necessary
$("#orgname").addClass("object_error");
$(this).html(msg);
}});}});}
else
{
$("#status").html('The Code should have at least 2 characters.');
$("#orgname").removeClass('object_ok'); // if necessary
$("#orgname").addClass("object_error");
}});});

//-->

I think that I'll have to head to the bookstore tomorrow and get me an AJAX
book. It seems pretty cool and something that I can use in the future.

Re: Script Issue

2012-12-20 Thread Bruce Sorge

What is really pissing me off about this issue is that even if I copy your
example verbatim and it does not work. I even went to the source of your
example and copied and pasted and it did not work on my test machine. I might
just roll it out to the production site since it's not done yet and see. What's
weird is I can go directly to the page that is being called in the background,
and dump the names, add the username=victor or whatever and it returns the
value 0 which I is what it is supposed to do. Even when I just my db query and
enter an invalid code it works fine. Just when I call it from the form it
returns 1 every time. Frustrating. But I won't let it kick my ass.

I didn't see anything that stands out. What's interesting is that if I change
this line from this:

if(result == 0) status('You have entered an invalid code. Please try again!');
 else status('');

to this:

if(result == 0) status('You have entered an invalid code. Please try again!');
 else status('Code is valid');

no matter what code I put in, valid or invalid, I get the response Code is
valid. I'll have to dig into this deeper to see what's going on.

Yeah, I forgot that. Thanks. Now the issue is that when I enter a code in the
database, I don't get any message at all. This is driving me nuts. And again, I
know that the calling CFM file works and I also know that the script is calling
the checkorgname.cfm file because if I change the name of it it throws a 404
error.

Script Issue

2012-12-20 Thread Bruce Sorge

I needed a way to check a database when someone enters a code into a form
field, and I ran across an old posting from Ray Camden using SPRY assets to
accomplish this. (I know that I should probably use AJAX or jQuery, but I have
not learned these languages yet so I am stuck going off of what I can find on
line).
Anyway, when I enter a code into the field, I get an error Exception caught
while loading checkcode.cfm?orgname=AA; Cannot set property 'innerHTML' of null.

Here is the code below:

Spry.Data.Region.debug = true;

function checkorgname() {

var uvalue = document.getElementById("orgname").value;
if(uvalue.length < 2) { status(''); return; }

Spry.Utils.loadURL("GET","checkcode.cfm?orgname="+encodeURIComponent(uvalue),
false, orgcheck);
}

function orgcheck(request) {

var result = request.xhRequest.responseText;

if(result == 0) status('You have entered an invalid code.
Please try again!');
 else status('');

}

function status(str) {

var resultblock = document.getElementById("resultblock");
resultblock.innerHTML = str;

}

form field in question:

The checkcode.cfm page works fine though. When I call it on it's own I get
either a 0 or 1 depending if the orgname in the URL variable is in the database.

Thanks,

Bruce

That did not work either. I did find a piece of code that actually generates a

How would I change this to a div

2012-09-21 Thread Bruce Sorge

I have several lines of code like this inside a cfoutput:

This generates a barcode and works fine in HTML, but when I try to insert the
barcode in a PDF it does not show up. I searched online and it appears that
cfdocument has an issue with span tags and I should use div instead. However,
when I change the span tags to div the barcode is vertical instead of
horizontal. I thought about creating several class properties inside a style
tag but I admit that my HTML is weak since I have been out of programming for
several years. Any ideas how I can accomplish this?

Thanks,

Bruce

Re: Issue with CF Barcode39

2012-09-20 Thread Bruce Sorge

I did a CFDUMP on the varabies.voucher and copied and pasted it into an HTML
document and the barcode shows up. What's interesting is that it won't work in
a PDF, and I think that I know why. The dump code consists of all of the span
tags that make up the barcode, so it's not actually an image, it's HTML
formatting, but when creating the PDF it's not working right. Attached is a
small sample:

 and so on and so on until the barcode
is created.

So it seems that making a PDF, it does not know what to do with the SPAN tag.
This requires some more digging

Issue with CF Barcode39

2012-09-20 Thread Bruce Sorge

Has anyone here used CFBARCODE? I am having a small issue with it.

Basically, I am creating a PDF using CFDOCUMENT and inside the PDF I am using
CF_Barcdode39 to insert a barcode into the document that will be emailed to a
customer. When I put the code into CFMAIL all works fine, images including
barcode are there. But because someone can get that emal and put it into a word
doc and change the barcode, they want to use a PDF instead. With the PDF, the
logo and signature images are fine. But the barcode will not insert into the
PDF and I really cannot figure out why. I have tried cfinclude as well as just
putting cf_barcode in the code as I did below. Since the barcode is basically
an image that is being created based on the actual barcode in the database, I
put it in an IMG tag but still get the nice little red x on the document. Below
is the code I am using.

So after searching the docs, I found out that you have to do two things to
embed an image to a PDF with CFDUCUMENT.

1. Set the localUrl variable to Yes
2. Use the path to the image relative to the file accessing it. Since my image
is in the Images folder, my code was And it IS
case sensitive.

it has to be something with the server because in design view in DW I see the

PDF has the logo fine. Just not on the live site.

Well I am narrowing it down to the live server. I drug and dropped the image
onto the code and put in the alternate text as well as a hyperlink attribute
and ran it and I got the image on my machine. Loaded it up to the live server
and I get the outline and alternate text on the PDF but not the image. And yes,
initially I was using an uppercase L on Logo.png. It is case sensitive.

Here is what is weird;

If you go to http://www.makeaherodonations.com/test.cfm you see the logo.
If you go to http://www.makeaherodonations.com/Images/Logo.png you get a 404

The IMG SRC is Images/Logo.png. I am at a loss. It seems that if a file is

Embedding image to a document that is attached to an email

So I have a page that every day queries a db for new voucher registrations. I
am using CFDOCUMENT to create a PDF for the voucher, then CFMAIL to attach the
voucher to an email. Problem is that I cannot get the companies logo image to
appear on the PDF. I am using the folllowing code:

I also tried expandpath but that did not work either. Any suggestions?

This is everything that they disabled:

On the shared ColdFusion servers you will have access to all tags and functions
except for the following:

CF Tags:
CFCOLLECTION
CFCONTENT
CFDUMP
CFEXECUTE
CFLOG
CFOBJECT
CFOBJECTCACHE
CFREGISTRY

CF Functions:
SetProfileString
CreateObject(COM)
CreateObject(CORBA)
CreateObject(JAVA)

Alternative to CFOBJECT

2012-08-30 Thread Bruce Sorge

So I discovered today that the hosting company that I am using has disabled
CFOBJECT, which sucks because the PayPal API that I am using uses the CFOBJECT
tag. Is there an alternative to this?

Thanks,

Bruce

OT - JS Question

2012-08-28 Thread Bruce Sorge

Can someone point me to a site or a sample of JS that does the following:

User enters first name, last name and birth date (birthdate is in a specific
format by using drop downs and not free text).
Once the birth year has been selected, a query is triggered to check for the
existence of the same information that was just entered.
If a match is found, a pop up is displayed stating that they have already
registered.
If no match, nothing happens.

Thanks,

Bruce

Populate Select List from JS

2012-08-12 Thread Bruce Sorge

Hello everyone,
So yesterday I figured out the JavaScript for my two selects. In the JS code
below I have the information I need, Resort Name and Resort ID:

function setOptions(opt) {
var resortID = document.adminForm.resortID;
resortID.options.length = 0;

if ((opt == "0") || (opt == "1")){
resortID.options[resortID.options.length] = new
Option("");
}

if ((opt == "2") || (opt == 2)) {

resortID.options[resortID.options.length] = new
Option('#Resort_Name#','#resort_ID#');
}

}

Here are the select lists:

Select...
Site
Admin
Resort Admin

The first list is hard coded as you can see and teh second one is dynamic. When
you select Resort Admin then the second list populates with the resort names.
What I need now is to get the resort ID's in the value and I don't know how to
do that. If anyone can help me with this last part I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Bruce

OT - JS question

2012-08-12 Thread Bruce Sorge

I have a form where I am adding administrators to a site. Site administrators
and resort administrators. Rather than have two separate forms for this I
thought that what I would do is when they are adding an admin, if they select a
resort admin, then another select list appears with a list of resorts.
Otherwise if they are a site admin they do not need ot select a resort. I have
looked on line for JS to do this but all I can find is something that shows
both select lists, and if you select a certain item in the first one then the
second one populates, otherwise the list is empty. Admittedly I am not all that
savvy at writing JS code. Has anyone done this before and would you be willing
to share the code?

Thanks,

Bruce

Re: Extracting text from various file-types

2012-08-10 Thread Bruce Sorge

For word, did you add the attribute in cffile action="readbinary"?

For excel, there is a cfspreadsheet tag that will read a spreadsheet and you
can put a query attribute on it and output the result.

For PDF's, there is a cfpdf tag that you can use.

Obviously you will have to get the file type then use cfif to tell the page
which tag to use for which file. Hope this helps

Check out the CFFILE tag. That offers this type of functionality.
