Well Currently I am running CF4.5 Professional on SP6a and haven't had any problems at all. RE: Hanging - Netscape
well I think it has to do with bad coding on netscapes part. I know for a fact that Netscape 6 beta 2 does not have these problems. The best guess is caching problems. Concerning the nested tables: That is exactly what I have. If it were a perfect world everyone would be running the latest browser version but it isn't and I am not willing to conform to substandard implementations of standards that have already been set. Don't get me wrong I was a netscape fan for a long time but with all the problems I have been having (that have nothing to do with what's between the keyboard and the chair.) I am moving farther and farther away from it. All I hope is that netscape 6 will revive my interest in their products again. That's a pretty reasonable question; unfortunately, it doesn't have a definitive answer. Wages vary so greatly according to location that specific wage discussions are only valid for your specific locale. For instance, I know that if I move to southern California, I can make approx 50 - 90% more than I make now. I also know that it costs at least that much more to live there (I live in Houston, TX), so the higher figures aren't that impressive. There are good COL calculators on the internet that you can use to gauge the cost of living in your area compared to any other given area. From that you can approximate the wage you should garner based upon what others earn in other places, which you can learn by analizing salary offers at job placement boards. There are also some indexes that track this sort of thing. Sorry I don't have any links at my fingertips but a thorough search of the internet ought to turn up many relative links. I suggest Google.com. At least, that's my favorite right now. hth -- Bruce ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. HELP! Application Problem.
Hey everyone we seem to be having a problem with an application of ours basically what it does is takes book course registration numbers and brings back the relevant information for each course book. It also allows the student to retotal the price. Right now the application seems to run fine on all of our machines that we have at our store except the new ones we just received. We are also receiving complaints from the students as well so I know it's not just us. The problem is that when you go to retrieve the books the browser starts to hang and the completion bar not to mention the page never goes anywhere. if anyone could check it out at http://d165-249.uoregon.edu/coursebooks/book_input_fall.cfm it would be greatly appreciated. I am also willing to send out code snippets for people as well. I tried cutting down the Database from 2,000 records to about 1,000 by splitting up the terms thinking that it might be the database size (we are using Access) but it still hasn't helped. RE: HELP! Application Problem.
we deffinetly have more than 5 or 6 at one given moment. This is the application that every student uses to look up their books. What DB would you suggest we go to? Is it personal preference or does Oracle have something over SQL Server or vise versa? The funny thing is though that it worked before now for actually a long time so this is quite disconcerting. CF STUDIO on Linux
Hi everyone, I was wondering if Allaire has any plans of releasing a CFStudio for Linux. Right now I am in the early stages of creating a program that is written in Java that will closely resemble CFStudio in functionality and UI would anyone with Java experience be interested in working on a cross platform project like this? Do you think that Allaire might be interested in this as well. Mabey a little support or something. Or am I dreaming. Chris Straight ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. RE: Session hijacking - help!
just a thought are you using cflock to lock the session variables. We just had this issue because one of our systems was a rush job. Once I added cflock tags everything was ok again. It only started doing it when a lot of people were using it. CF doesn't seem to handle it very well (It wasn't designed to). when you create a cflock you should use the #session.sessionID# as the name which takes the client cfid and cftoken and combines them to make a unique ID for that session. Hope this helps if not I really couldn't tell you off the top of my head what it would be. Chris Straight Web Developer University of Oregon Bookstore 895 E. 13th Ave Eugene, OR 97401 (541) 346-4331 http://www.uobookstore.com -Original Message- From: Scott Weikert [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, June 27, 2001 1:13 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Session hijacking - help! Hey gang, I've got a really WEIRD thing going on... a true stumper. Got a CF/SQL7 box. It's sitting on a client's internal LAN. Hence, their users on their LAN (and they're nationwide - I believe users in the field dial in and/or have dedicated lines, I'm not 100% sure - not my problem) hit this box pretty quick when they're using the app that's running on it (it's a computer-based training app). The app keeps track of users via session variables - tuck the userID in a session var, etc. No sweat. The thing is... occasionally, when there are multiple people accessing the training app at the same time, sessions get hijacked. To wit: Joe is in the training app. His 'session.userid' is 123. Mary comes along, logs in, starts using the app. Her userid is 456. At some point, Joe's computer all of a sudden thinks its session.userid is 456 - Mary's. Why? On top of all this... this only happens INSIDE THEIR LAN. Those of us on the outside (in our office, and in the office of the partner company who develops the content for the system) have NO problems like this. I've put in some debug display code and would have the company's propellerheads go through the app, from within their LAN, and boom - the output of the session.userid changes. The IP info for the client boxes is fine - I was spitting that out with the rest of the info - and it went unchanged. I understand that session info is stored in the server's RAM. I'm considering trying to swap over to a client variable-based method, and storing that info in the database. Thoughts? --Scott ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. RE: 2 probs: logout and password
if you create a global error page when something goes wrong and give your users a friendly message that they can not go back anymore that would work. so everytime a specific variable comes up empty that isn't supposed to, display a message according to what the variable is. -Original Message- From: "Bruce [mailto:"Bruce] Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2001 1:33 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: 2 probs: logout and password One thing you can try is use to send user back to a page of your choice.
