RE: approach to nested file locations.. menus.. and includes...

2002-01-16 Thread Chuck Hergenroeder

You could create mappings on the web server, that way no matter where
you are in the directory structure you could reference the specific
folder and file that you wanted to go to.

e.g. If you create a mapping called folder you could place the
following link in your code no matter where you are in the app.
a href=/folder/file.cfm
Instead of:
a href=http://url.com/top_folder/folder/file.cfm or
a href../folder/file.cfm

RE: approach to nested file locations.. menus.. and includes...

2002-01-16 Thread Chuck Hergenroeder

It will work on an IMG tag also, as long as you create a web server
mapping not a cf mapping in the CFAS. If all your docs are CFML then
create a cf mapping in the CFAS for them and a web server mapping for
the image directory(s).

I have not tried it with CFCONTENT, but would assume it would work with
a CF mapping.

Chuck

thanks Chuck.. was considering that approach.. had used that one before
as
well...

Assume extending it to IMG tag references should be seamless as well...

Longer code on large pages... but aside from that it should work well I
suspect...

Even with CFCONTENT :) ?

Pittsburgh CFUG Meeting Tonight

2001-08-08 Thread Chuck Hergenroeder

*** THIS MONTH'S MAIN TOPIC ***
cfObjects is a framework for implementing inheritance, polymorphism, and
encapsulation with CFML. The framework uses advanced ColdFusion features
such as exception handling, collections, and the request scope to satisfy
many of the requirements.

Today, Steve Brownlee will be going over the basics of cfObjects and how it
can help your development team reduce project life cycle, reuse code, have
almost limitless scalability and power with cfObject's new features.

*** LOCATION POLL ***
Needless to say, attendance at the meetings has significantly dropped since
we stopped meeting at marchFIRST. We have an offer from another company at
the Omega Building to host the meetings. I would like to know if meeting up
there again would be more attractive to everyone.

Please respond to Steve at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and let me know if meeting
in Robinson Township at the Omega Building on Rt. 60 is more convenient for
everyone.

*** MEETING LOCATION ***
Meeting are held the second Wednesday of every month @ WestLake Internet
Training center. WestLake is located in the Frick Building on Grant Street
in downtown Pittsburgh. For directions go to http://www.westlake.com

*** GOOD OPEN SOURCE PROJECT INITIATIVE ***
For those of you who are interested, there is a new open source content
management system (CMS) project being started and looking for developers.
It will be hosted by Sourceforge (https://sourceforge.net/projects/cosmoscf/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cosmoscf/ ) and you can learn more about

Subject: Kill the President

Sorry if I ruffle anyone's feathers here not a CF topic, but

I watched the 9 0'clock news last night on BBC 1 and watched an
interview
with the President of the United States,
George Bush.

This morning we have all been discussing the future career of this
man and
we all agree it will probably be short lived
if America does realise what they have sitting in the presidential
armchair.

A man during his Judicial Congress career in Texas, managed to break
all
records and have more Death Row
prisoners put to death by 4 times during his residency.

Now as the President of the United States,
Bush has made it quite clear he is not interested in the quick turn
around
to Global warming as is the rest of the World,
he has declined to get involved with Northern Ireland after so much
hard
work with the Clinton Administration,
his involvement and stance with the middle east peace process has not
been
made clear,

and the most worrying is that he has decided to set the world back 15
years
by re-establishing a Nuclear presence.

To quote the President, I have said before to the rest of the world
there
is no more cold war, but America must protect
itself from a rogue dictator

What kind of signals is this sending out to the rest of the world,
especially China? Its not so long ago only in the job by a
few weeks he started to play hard ball against China, when their
reconnaissance aircraft was forced to land after infringing
Chinese airspace, their plane never recovered and America forced to
apologize.

Two years ago India and Afghanistan proceeded to test nuclear
missiles and
America opposed with the rest of Europe intensely,
a global united stance, a sense of security and lack of desire for
Military
confrontations, Bush has decided to scrap this idea
and restock on nuclear arms.

Where is the political responsibility and consistency of America
going, to
be seen to be undoing all the hard work of a
previous administration that sent America to it pest political and
economical climate for decades, if even hasten to say ever can
only be seen as a dictatorship in its own right.

George Bush is not smart enough to be president, he lacks in
humility, he is
not political sound and what's worrying is if he
continues to create a global stir someone could effectively try to
kill the
president.

I also hate to tell you that IE and Netscape are based off of the open
source Mozilla project which Opera has followed closely with. Just because
it's Microsoft doesn't mean you have to hate it.

In my opinion, IE was what killed the entire topic of web browsers - it
stinks, Netscape is getting to be as bad, or perhaps even worse now, and
everyone else went off and pouted because the big boys didn't want to let
them play ball. That's too bad - at least the iCab, Opera and a few other
teams continue to attempt to prove that one can still browse the internet
without such bug-ridden applications as IE and Netscape...

I was wondering is anyone has had any experience with software that is
similar to Howie Hamlin's www.CoolFusion.com iAuth. If you are not familiar
with it, iAuth provides a security wrapper around the basic authentication
under IIS and Website. It allows you to use templates like Cold Fusion to
provide finer granularity and extensible security model under IIS or Website
and Cold Fusion. iAuth will also support Perl and iHTML.

Unfortunately, we have had a number of severe stability and reliability
problems with iAuth under IIS so we are looking for alternatives. We are
looking for a commercial package with real support rather than just a
collection of tags. If you have any suggestions, they would be most
appreciated.

Thanks!

Does anyone know of an application to develop small websites with out having
to use HTML? A site visitor could register, and a mini-site is created that
they can then login to an admin area to update content.

I know these exist for a price, but I am looking for one that I can pick up
for free.

Thanks!

Re: CFXhosting.com?

2000-08-14 Thread Chuck Hergenroeder

Here's all I know about them, They are a division on Express Technologies. Express
Technologies also owns halfpricehosting.com, I am not satisified with
halfpricehosting.com, trouble with mail servers, long hold times for support, and
overall slow serving from their servers. Now with that said, I do not know if the
same holds true for CFXHosting.

Re: [OT] REQ testimonials from SAG Electronics customers.

2000-08-11 Thread Chuck Hergenroeder

Have spent many $$ with SAG and have not had any real problems.

Their systems are well built with quality components and their support is top notch.
The only complaint I do have is that they do not have 24hour support (at least I don't
think they do?). I only had to call support one time, 30 second hold time and I had
the new hard drive in my hands by 9AM the next day.

Create a ASX file from CF Form

2000-08-08 Thread Chuck Hergenroeder

Has anyone or does anyone know if it is possible to create an ASX file (MS Streaming
media redirect file) dynamically through a CF form.

What I am trying to do is pull a list of ASF files from a database. Display the list
with checkboxes. The user will select the file(s) they want to view. Then an ASX file
will be created depending on which files they selected.

I'm kinda new to CF so I'm not sure if you can do this. If there is an easier way to
do this please let me know.

Anyone have recommendations for webcams? Low-end, middle of the road, or
high-end. Our CEO wants to put a webcam on the top of the building

at the new construction the company is doing and have the pictures put on
the web. I'm assuming the webcam could be hooked into a workstation which
would then upload the pictures to the web server? Do webcams come with
the
 software to do the upload?

 Thanks for any input.
