Re: Medadata
Hola Juan, Anyone knows how can I get the metadata information from DB ? (ie. tables, fields, primary keys, datatypes, views) In MsSql you can use the StoredProcs such called sp_tables witch will return all the tables in a DB including the sys tables. There are other that do different things , sp_columns etc... In Access you can get at the table names from a systable , it's called MsysObjects ,but it has alot of other stuff in there. To view the table in access go to tools-options-view and tick hidden objects and system objects Hasta Lleugo ~Justin MacCarthy -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.

Re: In search of security solutions for ColdFusion apps and Unix
I would suggest sending this to the cf-linux list but... Developers often resist having database user ids and passwords embedded into ColdFusion admin databases. This is not secure (since the ColdFusion admin now has info that they may, in fact, not be cleared to see). What are the alternatives for passing owner and password on through to the underlying database (such as Oracle, etc) Username Passord attributes in CFSTOREDPROC or CFQUERY ??? If one DOES embed the user id/password, then one still has to implement some sort of security mechanism, since the .cfm files need to be readable by user "nobody" if the web server is running in the default configuration. use cfencode ?? Better than nothing but not REALLY secure. What practices helps one prevent making modified versions of the .cfm pages and accessing the data? When querying csv , as far as remember you point the odbc to the irectory( like a db), and the file in the directory become the table (month.csv is like a table called month etc) and then you just query as usual Justin MacCarthy What about the fact that there won't be a table name? -- Bud Schneehagen - Tropical Web Creations _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ ColdFusion Solutions / eCommerce Development [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.twcreations.com/ -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.

Re: CFPOP's MessageNumber
You should look at cfx_imap tag in the tagGallery The Imap protocol will give you much for control over your mail access. I'd like people to be able to check their messages via the web, but also have access to them from other mail clients. My solution was to copy their mail messages to a database, but then I run into the problem of CFPOP not knowing which messages on the server have already been downloaded. I wondered if it would be simpler to just download all the messages again, and then run some kind of comparison to look for duplicates in the table. But that sounds kinda time-consuming. I know that mail programs like Outlook and Netscape leave a file on your mail server that acts as a kind of placeholder so they know where they left off. What if in the meantime another process had deleted one or more of the messages returned in the original call to CFPOP - will message #10 still be the message I thought it was? I suspect it will simply be the 10th message returned by the mail server whenever the delete action is run and the wrong one message would be deleted from the server. A variation on this, which is what I'm trying to do: I'd like to have a CF program, using CFPOP, retrieve messages from a mailbox, _not_ delete the messages, then in subsequent runs, retrieve only new messages (similar to the way an email client might operate)? I understand the STARTROW attribute, but once again, it doesn't seem to address starting at a specific message, simply at the Nth message. What if messages had been deleted since the last program execution - won't that throw this STARTROW point off? Is there any other way of identifying a specific message and saying "retrieve every message after this one"? Re: Scoping
1. Can variables in the application scope be made available to custom tags? (I know I can set application variables in the request scope which will make them available to custom tags.) Yes Application Scoped vars are available to Custom tags. The application scope that is used is the scope of the calling template . 2. If I set variables in my application.cfm to be in the request scope, does this mean they are set every "request" to the web site? It seems as if my app.cfm is no longer being cached but is instead being processed every page view. How can I test to see if this is true, or does anyone know FOR SURE the behavior of the request scope? Yes they are set for each request as request scope only lasts for the for the length of the request , unlike application vars which are stored in memory. Re: CFEXECUTE [CF-Talk]
Any reason you don't use cfx_pgp tag? I forgot to ask what version of CF it is , the cfexecute tag behavior is a little strange, I think, but some of that has been fixed with the new service pack and a the upgrades (according you the release notes) You chould try using min's cfx_commandconsole @ intrafoundation.com , I found it better then cfexecute in cf v4.5 Otherwise you could write you own in Java or c++ to avoid the command line.. Re: Cryotic Keys again
What you need to do is create two numbers which when used together give you a unique / secure value. So when then user subscribesto your site get the regid and format like 1 (9 digits) (use numberformat) and also create a random value of length 21 (for example) and store to with your registation details as regkey eg: sugfsfsygf4549yhi32bn (21 digits ) (There is a radompassword tag in taggallery to do this) Now in your email send whatever.cfm?Key=sugfsfsygf4549yhi32bn1 and on whatever.cfm do select * from regdetails Where regid = left(Key,9) and regkey = right(Key,21) You can encypt the whole thing more using any of the cf encryption function, but make sure to urlencode them ~Justin You know how sometimes when you subscribe to something or update something on the net you get an email message back with some cryptic key or verification code in it that might look like this tc.968809886.gfgchekkhdlkdfdeelpe or this 3A9F9A4AE5E0D311865700508B97404D9DE2EE They seem to be generated randomly from something, maybe some extrapolation of ASCII values or something. Re: Cryotic Keys again
UUID does create a globaly unique value (BTW CreateUUID in CF is formatted incorrectly) How ever it does not create a unique PAIR of values. Also UUID functions tend to give sequential values For example , for I run CreateUUID twice in a row... 1BBF0354-8A59-11D4-955E0050DA7875E0 1BBF0355-8A59-11D4-955E0050DA7875E0 I chould guess the next value is 1BBF0356-8A59-11D4-955E0050DA7875E0 (it was ) so it's not very secure. I am building a website with ColdFusion that requires people to log in before they can search a database with (links to) PDF files. When they found a file, they can then download it to their computer. It is a Extranet, so only clients of the company have access to the database. The company would like to know who logs in, how often and which files they download, for marketing purposes. How can I register which users have logged in, how many times and the file download info? Or do programs like Webtrends also have the possibility to give that information. The scheduling program uses an Access Database as its backend. This is just a small program and we are trying to keep the backend the same and just re-write the front end. However, the person that wrote this access database made the field names contain spaces. For example, one field name is 6 AM I didn't think you could have spaces in a field name. But even so, how do you tell Cold Fusion the field name? I didn't think you could use #6 AM#. I have just started re-writing it and I am going to try referencing the field name as #6 AM#, but I wanted to get feedback. Is this the right way to do it? You need to use a little Javascript on the client to pass the uses timezone to the server The following will write a hidden field containing the offset in minute between the locale time and GMT script n = new Date(); str = "input type='hidden' value='" + n.getTimezoneOffset() + "' name='offset'"; document.write(str); /script or you chould write it to a cookie for later use.. They just seem to be spending a lot of time/work doing things are are irrelevant to the vitality of cf. Instead of playing with a time-consuming langauge switch to java (not a good idea in the first place long-term as far as I'm concerned) they could have spent that effort fixing all the numerous bugs (mostly tcp/ip protocol related) and adding in more basic functionality. All those things people have been grumbling about for years. I agree that the interfaces for SMTP, POP, HTTP, etc. need a lot of work. As for other stuff, I'm kind of curious. What basic functionality would you like to see? I can't really think of all that much that I'd like to see added. In addition to fixing what doesn't work ( although hopefully the new Service Pack system will improve a lot of these ) User Functions More access to the cftag stuff from within cfscript.. eg. cfscript if (a == 1) cflocation('http://www.slashdot.org'); /cfscript Better and more consistant Regexs (ie: inline with perl etc...) Better memory management when using large structures. but every language has it's problems :-) As for the change to Java, I generally see that as a good thing, if executed properly. I agree with that , and I'm looking forward to it. Min's just annoyed he'll have to rewrite all his tags :-) It will be interesting to see how the ColdFusion community develop with Java in the mix. It would be a pity if the newbies get alienated. ~Justin -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.

It took me about an hour to create it, and it now has a web page where you can download the browser that I made, and there is also a syntax reference. It is similar to Plain Old Documentation (as in Perldoc) because it is similar in style, simple, and straightforward to use. Please have a look, and download it. Re: Calling CF template from perl?
Can't you use the Net::SMTP module ??? or to call the cf using "libwww-perl (LWP) modules" , something like ... use LWP::Simple; $content = get($URL); you'll need to encode the URL you send more @ http://www.perl.com/pub/doc/manual/html/pod/perlfaq9.html or www.cpan.org to get the modules. ~Justin MacCarthy - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2000 12:48 PM Subject: Calling CF template from perl? Hi, through a combination of circumstances beyond our control we have inherited a Perl script which we need to get running on an NT system. The part thats giving us problems is mailing from the script as we can't use an SMTP server or install any additional software on the NT box (don't ask why, if we could do it Blat would be on that machine as we speak). We do have access to CF 4.0 on the server though, so we were wondering - can we send the email data from the perl script to a CF template which would do the mailing? The script is set up with a mailing subroutine which is passed four variables - To, From, Subject and Message, all messages will be pre-defined and fairly short in length. Anyone have any ideas on this? We have a very basic level of Perl experience so if any answers can not assume we know what we are doing it may save time ;) Wayne Putterill -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body. -- Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.
