We've used ImageResize before and that's pretty good. The custom tag that
you're supposed to interface with isn't all that, so we used the .dll
 directly (it's called Image.dll).

I'm not certain, but think you might be confusing ImageResize (and it's
accompanying Image.dll) with Lewis' ImageInfo (which I thought Lewis did
 write).

Can't seem to find ImageResize on the Gallery... could send you the .dll,

No, I do not want email sent at a certain time or upon a user action. I
want a Cold Fusion template to be executed when I send email to an email
address. It can be an email account on the same server if that helps
(you'd think so). I know I can do it by using a scheduled task to check
for new email at specified intervals, but scheduled tasks are frequently
unreliable and either I'd have to have very short intervals of checking
or I'd have to be content with waiting (and hoping) for the scheduled
task to run. So intstead I would like to be able to trigger a CF
template some other way, using email. Maybe there's a CFX out there for
this purpose, or some obscure CF function that I haven't heard of using
 this way?

Hola Juan,

Anyone knows how can I get the metadata information from DB ? (ie.
tables,
 fields, primary keys, datatypes, views)

In MsSql you can use the StoredProcs such called sp_tables witch will
return all
the tables in a DB including the sys tables. There are other that do
different things , sp_columns etc...

In Access you can get at the table names from a systable , it's called
MsysObjects ,but it has alot of other stuff in there. To view the table in
access go to tools-options-view and tick
hidden objects and system objects

workable. once you get into multiple langauges its unicode

Re: In search of security solutions for ColdFusion apps and Unix

2000-09-28 Thread JustinMacCarthy

I would suggest sending this to the cf-linux list but...

Developers often resist having database user ids and passwords embedded
into ColdFusion admin databases. This is not secure (since the ColdFusion
admin now has info that they may, in fact, not be cleared to see).
What are the alternatives for passing owner and password on through to
the underlying database (such as Oracle, etc)

Username Passord attributes in CFSTOREDPROC or CFQUERY ???

If one DOES embed the user id/password, then one still has to implement
some sort of security mechanism, since the .cfm files need to be readable
by user "nobody" if the web server is running in the default
configuration.

use cfencode ?? Better than nothing but not REALLY secure.

What practices helps one prevent making modified versions of the .cfm
pages
 and accessing the data?

Readable not writtable ...

 Hi!

We received (some time ago) a notice from Allaire, that they will host the
2nd Developer Conference in Washington D.C. This conference is great ( I
was at the 1st conference). But to my surprise the entrance fee is $899
(or
$799 if you register before July or something). THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE if
you
ask me!!! If you are from Europe, then you can't come, except if you have

I am looking for a post from a month of so ago that details the command to
add to the end of a URL that will allow you to view the source of a .CFM

From what I understand, and correct me if I am wrong, this command worked
with 4.0 servers but does not work with 4.5+.

Any details about this command would be appreciated!

Re: csv file as datasource

When querying csv , as far as remember you point the odbc to the
irectory( like a db), and the file in the directory become the table
(month.csv is like a table called month etc) and then you just query as
usual

What about the fact that there won't be a table name?

I'm looking for the answer to the very same question. I'd like people
to be able to check their messages via the web, but also have access to
them from other mail clients. My solution was to copy their mail
messages to a database, but then I run into the problem of CFPOP not
knowing which messages on the server have already been downloaded.
I wondered if it would be simpler to just download all the messages
again, and then run some kind of comparison to look for duplicates in
the table. But that sounds kinda time-consuming.
I know that mail programs like Outlook and Netscape leave a file on
your mail server that acts as a kind of placeholder so they know where
they left off. I wonder if a combination of CFPOP and CFMAIL could do
 the same thing?

If I do a CFPOP with ACTION="GetAll" and then later do an
ACTION="Delete", how does CF keep track of which message I'm referring
to? What if in the meantime another process had deleted one
  or more of
the messages returned in the original call to CFPOP - will message #10
still be the message I thought it was? I suspect it will
  simply be the
10th message returned by the mail server whenever the delete action is
run and the wrong one message would be deleted from the server.

A variation on this, which is what I'm trying to do: I'd
  like to have a
CF program, using CFPOP, retrieve messages from a mailbox,
  _not_ delete
the messages, then in subsequent runs, retrieve only new messages
(similar to the way an email client might operate)? I understand the
STARTROW attribute, but once again, it doesn't seem to
  address starting
at a specific message, simply at the Nth message. What if
  messages had
been deleted since the last program execution - won't that throw this
STARTROW point off? Is there any other way of identifying a specific
message and saying "retrieve every message after this one"?

  Thanks,
  Jim

What DB nathan ???

In MsSql you can use a StoredProc called sp_tables witch will return all
the tables in a DB including the sys tables

In Access you can get at the table names from a systable but I can remember
which one... hold on it's called MsysObjects ,but it has alot of other stuff
in there. To view the table in access go to tools-options-view and tick
hidden objects and system objects

or use ado (search for ADO in the Allaire Forums)

The Directory that you placed you files in need to be setup correctly in

sure that in Permissions that Execute or Script is choosen, Click
Configuration , and make sure .cfm is in there mapped to the iscf.dll.

Re: Scoping

2000-09-24 Thread JustinMacCarthy

 1. Can variables in the application scope be made available to custom
tags?
(I know I can set application variables in the request scope which will
make
 them available to custom tags.)

Yes Application Scoped vars are available to Custom tags. The application
scope that is used is the scope of the calling template .

 2. If I set variables in my application.cfm to be in the request scope,
does
this mean they are set every "request" to the web site? It seems as if my
app.cfm is no longer being cached but is instead being processed every
page
view. How can I test to see if this is true, or does anyone know FOR SURE
the behavior of the request scope?

Yes they are set for each request as request scope only lasts for the for
the length of the request , unlike application vars which are stored in
memory.

Try something like

cfif not IsDefined("Application.IsInitialised")
!---set your app vars ---

cfset Application.IsInitialised = 1
/cfif

 Subject: 2nd Conference

  Hi!

We received (some time ago) a notice from Allaire, that they will host
the
2nd Developer Conference in Washington D.C. This conference is great
 I
was at the 1st conference). But to my surprise the entrance fee is $899
 (or
$799 if you register before July or something). THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE if
 you
ask me!!! If you are from Europe, then you can't come, except if you
have
 a
lot of money (entrace fee + plane tickets + hotel + spending money). Am
I
  missing something?

  Bye,

  Iztok

I am not sure what tool to use to develop quite a major site. I have heard
that while coldfusion is good for small sites, ASP is more robust, and
would
cope better with a large site that has to deal with a few thousand hits a
 week.

We'd like to display text that includes ColdFusion and custom tag calls

don't want to call the tags themselves.

For example the screen should display exactly like this:

 cfexecute name="e:\pgp\pgp6.5.8\pgp.exe" -u MyUserID arguments="-sta
 e:\pgptest.txt -z PassPhrase99" outputFile="e:\pgpoutput.txt"
 timeout="5"/cfexecute

This does not work - when the PGP software requests the passphrase, it
appears that Coldfusion thinks the process is over and ends the
processing, without passing the passphrase to the command-line.

Therefore I get the following error:

A secret key is required to make a signature. Signature error

For a usage summary, type: pgp -h
For more detailed help, consult the PGP User's Guide.

Is there any way to get CF to deliver the passphrase at the right time,
or should I be going about this a completely different way?

Any reason you don't use cfx_pgp tag?

I forgot to ask what version of CF it is , the cfexecute tag behavior is a
little strange, I think, but some of that has been fixed with the new
service pack and a the upgrades (according you the release notes)

You chould try using min's cfx_commandconsole
@ intrafoundation.com , I found it better then cfexecute in cf v4.5

Otherwise you could write you own in Java or c++ to avoid the command
line..

Hope that helps , tell us how you get on..

I am using SQL Server 7.

I can use CFOUTPUT I suppose. What I need to do is set the results to a
variable and write that as part of a file.

I am a little unclear on how I would even use CFOUTPUT in this fashion --
 can I somehow
set the output to a variable?

 CFOUTPUT query="getcategories"
 "Category" #currentrow# #Category_Title#
 /cfoutput

I need this in a variable that is part of a few variables concatenated and
written to a file using CFFILE write

 Thanks for anymore insight... :)

Not in standard SQL. This operation would be at odds with
the relational view of data, in which data is intrinsically
  not ordered.

So if there is a way of doing it that would work in a single
CFQUERY, it's going to be be DBMS-specific. If you happen
to be using PostgreSQL you might be able to to create a
user-defined function in 'C' to do it, but that would be
  crazy.

But if you can't use CFOUTPUT, why does it matter what the
results look like? What exactly are you trying to do?

I'm using the block of code below to place a random image on a page each
time the page is loaded. However, for some reason, it only seems to swap
the first THREE images out, not all seven.

 cfparam name="imageswap" default="#randrange(1,7)#"
 cfif #imageswap# is "1"
 img src="home_photo1.jpg"
 cfelseif #imageswap# is "2"
 img src="home_photo2.jpg"
 cfelseif #imageswap# is "3"
 img src="home_photo3.jpg"
 cfelseif #imageswap# is "4"
 img src="home_photo4.jpg"
 cfelseif #imageswap# is "5"
 img src="home_photo5.jpg"
 cfelseif #imageswap# is "6"
 img src="home_photo6.jpg"
 cfelseif #imageswap# is "7"
 img src="home_photo7.jpg"
 /cfif

I could do this with JavaScript instead, but hell, it's close to 50 total
lines of code by the time you're done. Is there any way to get it a little
more "random" and show all seven images instead of just the first three
like
 it's doing?

Oram I a total idiot and have a simple syntax error I'm just not

Re: [CF-Talk] Reading a text file CFFILE

2000-09-19 Thread JustinMacCarthy

I'm trying to see how to read a text file where each field is delimited
bycomma and each record is delimited by linebreak. The cffile tag reads
the whole file into a single variable..then how do I break it up into
records, then into separate fields?

A couple of things, you chould read the whole thing into memory and have a
list of lists

cffile action=read variable="MyRSet"
cfset newline = Chr(13) Chr(10)

cfloop list="MyRSet" delimiters="#newline#" index= "CurrentLine"
 cfloop list="CurrentLine" delimiters="," index="column"

#column#

/cfloop
br
/cfloop

but that mean that the whole file is read into memory .Have a look at
cfx_readline @ www.Intrafoundation.com , it might be handy.

There are other ways , depends on a whole load of things ...

Re: Cryotic Keys again

2000-09-14 Thread JustinMacCarthy

What you need to do is create two numbers which when used together give you
a unique / secure value.

So when then user subscribesto your site get the regid and format like

1 (9 digits) (use numberformat)

and also create a random value of length 21 (for example) and store to with
your registation details
as regkey

eg: sugfsfsygf4549yhi32bn (21 digits )

(There is a radompassword tag in taggallery to do this)

Now in your email send

whatever.cfm?Key=sugfsfsygf4549yhi32bn1

and on whatever.cfm do

select *
from regdetails
Where regid = left(Key,9)
and regkey = right(Key,21)

You can encypt the whole thing more using any of the cf encryption function,
but make sure to urlencode them

~Justin

You know how sometimes when you subscribe to something or update something
on the net you get an email message back with some cryptic key or
verification code in it that might look like this

 tc.968809886.gfgchekkhdlkdfdeelpe

 or this

 3A9F9A4AE5E0D311865700508B97404D9DE2EE

They seem to be generated randomly from something, maybe some
extrapolation
of ASCII values or something. Does anyone know how this type of thing is
done (with a CF slant of course).

Re: Cryotic Keys again

2000-09-14 Thread JustinMacCarthy

UUID does create a globaly unique value (BTW CreateUUID in CF is formatted
incorrectly)

How ever it does not create a unique PAIR of values. Also UUID functions
tend to give sequential values

For example , for I run CreateUUID twice in a row...

1BBF0354-8A59-11D4-955E0050DA7875E0 1BBF0355-8A59-11D4-955E0050DA7875E0

I chould guess the next value is

1BBF0356-8A59-11D4-955E0050DA7875E0 (it was )

so it's not very secure.

It is the combination of 2 random values that gives a secure key...

Makes messy code but if you are using word to edit the docs and not

Really, ask any email spammer!! If a have the memberlist of foo.com , I
probably have the email address ie [EMAIL PROTECTED] etc..

Also having a username is half the battle of finding a username/password

consider this

cfloop list="#usernamelist#" index=i

cfhttp url=loginform.cfm
cfparam name=username value="#i#"
cfparam name=username value="password"
/cfhttp

/cfloop

or similar..

See what I mean

This is true. However, I wouldn't think usernames would be considered
 sensitive info.

Re: Introduction + logging question...

You could parse this out of the weblogs but I think you would be better
writing you own logging tags.

I use a custom, something like

cf_userlog action="successfullogin" userid="#session.userID#"
details="username:#form.username#" logdns="mydns"

or

cf_userlog action="fileDownload" userid="#session.userID#"
details="DocID:#Url.docID#" logdns="mydns"

Hope that helps

 Hi there,

My name is Erik-Jan Jaquet and I am a Dutch web developer. I recently
started programming in ColdFusion and joined this list. This is my first
 posting.

I am building a website with ColdFusion that requires people to log in
before they can search a database with (links to) PDF files. When they
found
a file, they can then download it to their computer. It is a Extranet, so
only clients of the company have access to the database.

The company would like to know who logs in, how often and which files they
 download, for marketing purposes.

How can I register which users have logged in, how many times and the file
download info? Or do programs like Webtrends also have the possibility to
 give that information.

 Thanks in advance,

I am re-writing a scheduling program that was written in ASP/VB to work in
Cold
Fusion. The scheduling program uses an Access Database as its backend.

This is just a small program and we are trying to keep the backend the
same and
just re-write the front end. However, the person that wrote this access
database made the field names contain spaces. For example, one field
name is 6
 AM

I didn't think you could have spaces in a field name. But even so, how do
you
tell Cold Fusion the field name? I didn't think you could use #6 AM#.

I have just started re-writing it and I am going to try referencing the
field
name as #6 AM#, but I wanted to get feedback.

Is this the right way to do it? I would like not to have to re-write the
back
 end just yet.

Re: CF and PGP

It is very odd that you are allow to run cfexecute (you chould do format c:\
, or use | dev/null etc...) but not use a custom tag

You chould pipe the file to pgp under *nix but
I think the cfexecute tag is a little dodgy... and I haven't tried it under
*nix...

I would argue the case for using a custom tag... java or c , What are
the objections ?

Actually they have published them. Look for the document entitled "running

ColdFusion is a security risk because Allaire has not published the actual
rights required for ColdFusion to run under NT. For this reason, the only
choice when running ColdFusion is to allow the ColdFusion application full
administrative rights. This is a security risk both

Re: Help with WDDX

I need to query a table, take the results and change a few of the variable
 names,

It is best to change var names in the SQL so, if you want to change column
col_1 - MyVarName1

cfquery name="q"

SELECT col_1 as MyVarName1, col_2 as MyVarName2
FROM myTable

/cfquery

serialize it using wddx, and then send that packet in an email.

cfwddx action="WDDX2CFML" input="#q#" output="MyWddx"

cfmail

#MyWddx#

/cfmail

Subject: Large Query to web

 Hi everybody,

I am trying to present a very large chunk of data to users via a web page.
The query takes 45 seconds to run (optimized) in the Query Analyzer and
 yields 100,000 records.

Good 'ol CFOUTPUT will not work. IE chokes if there are more than 5,000
or
so records. It takes so long for the page to render.

I am wondering if anybody else has been here before and has any
suggestions
 ?

 Perhaps :
 - Have SQL output a flat file and point to that with CF.
 - Write to an Excel file with an ODBC Driver ?
 - Explore CFX_Excel
 - Limit view to 5,000 at a time.

 Thanks for any pointers.

What i normally do is FIRST I RUN a QUERY against the database
seeing if the USERNAME that was passed is equal to any username in the
 database. Then i do a CFIF query.recordcount GT "1"
and show a message that the username is taken and then a CFELSE
that does the insert. That way if the query comes back with at least
ONE record you know the user id is taken if it comes back with ZERO
 you do the insert.

Unless you know where they are coming from for sure, this would be
difficult to automatically tell what time zone they are in. Maybe you
could try a DNS lookup, and use the country suffix, but that is
unreliable
at best. If you know for sure, I can't imagine setting the time to be
that
hard, just a matter of using the DateAdd() function.

CF... seems to have taken the fork on the left somewhere
along the road. They just seem to be spending a lot of
time/work doing things are are irrelevant to the vitality
of cf. Instead of playing with a time-consuming langauge
switch to java (not a good idea in the first place long-term
as far as I'm concerned) they could have spent that effort
fixing all the numerous bugs (mostly tcp/ip protocol related)
and adding in more basic functionality. All those things
people have been grumbling about for years.

I agree that the interfaces for SMTP, POP, HTTP, etc. need a lot of work.
As
for other stuff, I'm kind of curious. What basic functionality would you
like to see? I can't really think of all that much that I'd like to see
 added.

In addition to fixing what doesn't work ( although hopefully the new Service
Pack system will improve a lot of these )
User Functions More access to the cftag stuff from within
cfscript..

eg.
cfscript
if (a == 1)  cflocation('http://www.slashdot.org');
/cfscript

Better and more consistant Regexs (ie: inline with perl etc...)
Better memory management when using large structures.

but every language has it's problems :-)

As for the change to Java, I generally see that as a good thing, if
executed
 properly.

I agree with that , and I'm looking forward to it. Min's just annoyed
he'll have to rewrite all his tags :-)
It will be interesting to see how the ColdFusion community develop with Java
in the mix.
It would be a pity if the newbies get alienated.

Due to the lack of interest in my last posting, I am re-posting (sort of)
a
 mail to get some feedback.

I have created a documentation system called cfdoc. I know there are
others, but they all seem a little complex for me, and not so
transferrable
and useful in other circumstances. It took me about an hour to create it,
and it now has a web page where you can download the browser that I made,
and there is also a syntax reference. It is similar to Plain Old
Documentation (as in Perldoc) because it is similar in style, simple, and
 straightforward to use.

Please have a look, and download it. You can modify the code, but please
tell me before making any major changes.

 The web site is

 http://www.cfm-resources.com/members/cfdoc/

Again, feedback would be really helpful.

 Thanks

SMTP server or install any additional software on the NT box (don't ask
why,
if we could do it Blat would be on that machine as we speak).

We do have access to CF 4.0 on the server though, so we were wondering -
can
we send the email data from the perl script to a CF template which would
do
the mailing? The script is set up with a mailing subroutine which is
passed
four variables - To, From, Subject and Message, all messages will be
pre-defined and fairly short in length.

Anyone have any ideas on this? We have a very basic level of Perl
experience
so if any answers can not assume we know what we are doing it may save
time
 ;)

question
to you is, how can i (if its possible) use CFHTTP to generate these header
fields into my submition? I need to add to the header field

 "Authorization: Basic base64 encrypted data"

Ive tried cfhttpparam with all types (URL, CGI, FORMFIELD, ETC). To no
avail.. Any and all help would be GREATLY apretiated.

Hi Andy , just fowarding you a old mail from Howie on this subject.

However this is not a complete solution because the records are still in the
DB , but just are not being shown. AFAIK you cannot issue a "pack" from
ODBC...

Let me know if you solve the pack issue !!!

Hope this helps Justin

You need to make a setting in your ODBC config for this. For some strange
reason, the ODBC Driver defaults to showing deleted records. To fix this:

Open up Control Panel/ODBC (you can't do this through the CF Administrator
 AFAIK)
Highlight the datasource and click on Configure
 Click on Options
Uncheck the box that says Show Deleted Rows

Subject: CF and Fox Pro

Ok I hate Fox Pro as much as the next person but unfortunately I have to
make some changes to a site that is driven by fowpro databases and I'm
 getting a problem

The client has a Remote Management System which maintains the data in
these
FP tables that drives their site. He is trying to delete a record from a
table but there is some logic in the CF pages that won't let him delete
the
record if there are any related records in another table (which there are
in
this case). So.he does the natural thing and deletes all of the
related
records in the other table (through his CF RMS) and then goes back to
delete
this original record. However the Fox Pro database thinks these related
records are still there as the PACK command has not been issued. As I
understand it the records are not permanently deleted until the pack
command
is issued. Iv'e tried adding this command to the sql statement in the CF
page that deletes these records but I get an ODBC error..anyone have a
 quick easy solution to this

Odd new problem, I hope someone can help...

I have downloaded a text file from a service. This file needs to be
encrypted so I use the code...

 ... CFSET encrypted = encrypt(string, key)

Where string hold the text file, and key is the encryption key I use.

Then I store it in a 'text' field in an SQL7 db for later.

Later, when I try and pick up the file, I use...

 cfquery name="get_report" datasource="#dsn#" dbtype="ODBC"
 SELECT report
 FROMdbo.leads
 WHERE (Answer3 = '#ss#')
 /cfquery
 cfoutput
 cfset txtoutput = #get_report.report#
 CFSET decrypted = decrypt(txtoutput, key)

 hr
 pre
 #decrypted#
 /pre
 hr
 /cfoutput

This works ok, but only half the file in decrypted. It displays everything
perfectly, except about half way down the page, it just trails off in
 garbage characters. Any ideas?

We would like to use it - however it disables NES front-end accelerator
cache. Although this is not an Allaire issue - I sure wish Allaire would
push NES harder for a fix - other than telling it's customers:

"Note that while the Cluster Cat developers do not recommend specific web
servers, CC does not have the same problem with Apache on Solaris; this is
a
 NES issue."

So basically - if www.VictoriasSecret.com want to use Cluster Cats -
switch
 to Apache.

I don't like the response - so we're not sure what to do at this point -
however I know we won't be switching to Apache anytime soon.
