Oh good point there. So - ignoring my server where I don't have a proper
404 (grin), this should work for you:

You can use fileExists w/ a URL but unfortunately, if the server has a 404
handler than it will return true even when the 404 handler fires.

If a 404 handler isn't there, then this would have worked.

Re: "The long tail of ColdFusion fail"

2014-03-27 Thread Raymond Camden

As has been explained *multiple* times, there is no one solution (in terms
of settings) that will work for everyone. Therefore there must be some
position made where the software says, I'll lock down A and B, but I don't
think I can *always* lock C.

I *do* think that at the end of the installation, linking to the lock down
guide would be useful.

Right - but you said Adobe was ignoring this. Please back your statement
up. I said the CF team could possibly do more. But I do not agree that they
are ignoring the issue.

A position that does not agree with you is not one of attack.

Also - I do not blindly defend Adobe. I've got a *huge* history of
reporting bugs, making suggestions, and generally trying to make CF a
better product. If I thought the CF team was perfect then I wouldn't be
trying to help improve it.

If securing your server is considered extra curricular activity - ie stuff
you would do at a user group - then your priorities are way out of wack.

Um... who exactly is ignoring these people? You may argue the CF team
should do *more*, but they are not *ignoring* anyone. The Secure Profile
was a *big* step to try to help lock things down out of the box. Hiring
Pete to write a guide, and hosting it, on *additional* steps was a good too
imo.

Can even more be done - maybe so. I'd like the installer to point to the
lock down guide so folks know it exist.

As if Adobe hasn't at least made an effort - oh wait - they did.

Users must take some responsibility too, Maureen. You can't put it all on
Adobe's shoulders here. If you let your nephew install a server and don't
bother to double check his work, that is *your* fault, no one else.

So to be clear - there are people installing servers who don't know that
security is important?

Nothing can help them.

I don't know about you - but pretty much *any* tech I use, I know to google
"foo security" to see what resources exist for securing the app, install,
etc. Number one result for coldfusion security was

Re: returnformat

Both URL and Form args sent to a CFC method are passed to the arguments
scope. Have you tried simply checking arguments.returnformat?

Also, if your method is meant to export JSON only, you could just force it -

url.returnformat="json";

Then you quit to become a Ruby developer. The next dev comes along who

Or heck, take Raymond Camden, a guy who has used CF for 10+ years and still
makes typos from time to time. I'd *much* rather have CF complain than
silently ignore a bad argument.

I should point out - there ARE some tags where you are allowed to add
random crap, like cfcomponent and cffunction (cfargument too I think).
cfmodule as well.

Re: Adobe Installers

2014-03-18 Thread Raymond Camden

So it sounded like you had some trouble with the older installs. That's
unfortunate - but we were talking about the current installer. ;)

Now you said you are downloading 8 apps - "ponderously download" - you do
recognize that it may take time to download 8 separate large programs,
right? You can't expect 8 updates to go quick. It doesn't matter how cool
your installer is - a lot of bytes is a lot of bytes.
You do accept that it was easier to *start* those updates, right?

I guess it just depends on your point of view - but for me - and many
others - the experience of using the CC app to handle installing/updating
is *incredibly* simpler compared to the past.

Seriously - I'd consider trying it again. As for being able to select an
install location, I'll give you that, but honestly, I can't remember the
last time I didn't want an app in /Applications. A server - sure. But an
app? Most folks don't need/care to move it.

Actually I just checked, It is in the Preferences section of the CC app.

Re: Honest question about cfform

2014-03-04 Thread Raymond Camden

I think it is acceptable to let CF do some things for you. For example, I
don't want to go to Java and write the code to handle database calls. Could
I? Sure. (Ok, I lie.) But is it a good use of my time? Probably not. I let
CF handle that aspect for me and it has never been a problem.

On the flip side, letting CF handle client side JS for me *has* caused me
problems in the past. In many cases, I needed to do something different
than what CF did. Sometimes this is easy to do, sometimes not. But in the
cases where it was easy to do, I've gotten screwed when an CF update
changes things that makes my customizations break.

Back when CFFORM (and other client side tags, cftable anyone) was added,
client side dev wasn't easy. CF was a great help in that area 10 years ago.
But guess what? Client side dev has come a LONG way since then.

Is it perfect? Of course not. But there are numerous libraries, tools, etc
to help make this easier. The simple fact is that CF is *not* a benefit
anymore in this area. It is *epic* for handling data integration with
client side apps and I'd focus on that instead.

Wow, I can't do anything in my CF Admin anymore. I login. I try to change
something. And I get that error. Sorry to hijack the thread.

"There was an error while verifying the token. Either the session timed out

Remember, we are sending the data over the wire as a string. So your
argument should be string.

But for now, let's see your client side code again please.

Not exactly. You can't pass complex variables like that via HTTP. It has to
be serialized first. I believe jQuery will do that for you- but I'd
probably do it myself - ie, somearray.join(",").

Re: How do I pass this jQuery variable as arguments to a cfc method?

2014-01-15 Thread Raymond Camden

So values is this:

  values =  {   emailNewsletterGreeting: emailNewsletterGreeting,
  specialTitleID: specialTitleID}

I see you set specialTitleID. But you had it in loop. You probably wanted
to make that an array. If the values are IDs though you could use an array
and convert it to a list. So assuming you fixed it and specialTitleID was
an array, you could do:

specialTitleList = specialTitleID.join(",");

Not sure where you set emailNewsletterGretting.

You then want to use Chrome Dev Tools and look at the network request and
see how the value is being passed in.

Not a fix, but just an FYI...

a) you can append both values to a link using #session.urltoken# (it
contains both values)
b) there is also a func, urlSessionFormat

Re: CF 10 on Mavericks AND Adobe download links not working

2013-10-28 Thread Raymond Camden

Funny how I'm running CF right now. On Mavericks. As I said elsewhere (in
reply to you I believe), maybe since it takes 5 minutes to install your own
Apache at a level that CF supports, perhaps they feel time is best suited
elsewhere.

As for outside of CF, we have responded to questions about Creative Cloud,
http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2013/10/faq-adobe-apps-mac-os-mavericks.html,
and I've seen other products chiming in as well.

Re: CF 10 on Mavericks AND Adobe download links not working

2013-10-28 Thread Raymond Camden

My guess, and I speak here as just Ray, not Adobe Ray, heck, I'm not on
that team anyway, is that they have a certified list of web servers they
support, and adding one involves significant effort, and is probably only
done in major releases, ie, CF11 may support Apache 5 or somesuch. The CF
requirements page should clearly spell out what versions of Apache it
supports and I'd always recommend following that if - well - you want stuff
to work.

I just tried and it worked for me - the download I mean. What problem did
you have with the link?

As for Mavericks - I updated yesterday and CF is running fine for me. Note
though that I do not use the OSX Apache but rather MAMP.

I wouldn't do that. Seems a bit improper to me. We have a mechanism to
share data between tags like this. IMO, it makes sense to use it.

Re: passing data to nested custom tags

2013-10-18 Thread Raymond Camden

No, but a child tag can use getBaseTagData to access parent tag stuff. In
the past when I've done custom tags that include parents and children, I
have the children simply pass their crap up via cfassociate, and the "real"
logic is done in the parent tag. I can send you a demo if you want.

Re: How to refresh part of a page automatically

2013-10-17 Thread Raymond Camden

If you want to get anal, you could set a setTimeout and listen for the load
event on the image. That way if it takes a bit longer to load an image one
time the code will hold off on firing another request. (Probably not an
issue though if you are waiting 60 seconds.)

Re: How to refresh part of a page automatically

2013-10-17 Thread Raymond Camden

Real quick example here. It uses a date object to add a unique URL
parameter to the end which should help with caching. No jQuery used, just
standard HTML. The querySelector call is *kinda* modern-ish only (see
caniuse.com for specifics) and could be replaced by
document.getElementById. Oh - and I used 3 seconds. You want to change that.

My Page

document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function() {

var img = document.querySelector("#theImage");
var src = "./sourceimage.jpg";

window.setInterval(function() {
img.src = src + "?d=" + (new Date().getTime());
console.log(img.src);
},3000);

}, false);

You can use a setInterval call in JS to run every 60 seconds and reload the
image. You don't need a jQuery plugin for this.

Re: cfscript queries error in base.cfc

2013-10-15 Thread Raymond Camden

I see you are on CF9. Do you have a copy of CF10? If so, try copying over
the CFCs. This may be something that was fixed.

Weird. Not that it matters, but try this mod:

Obj = new com.adobe.coldfusion.query();
Obj.setDatasource("PNGOasis");

then continue

Re: cfscript queries error in base.cfc

2013-10-14 Thread Raymond Camden

Two things.

1) Don't forget that the code behind the script based CFCs is not
encrypted. You can look at base.cfc.

2) The issue seems to be this line:

But - it is wrapped in a try/catch, so you shouldn't be seeing it. If you
get rid of the setname aspect, which I don't think you need, does it work
ok?

I've totally ignored the whole rest of the thread, so pardon me if this is
dumb. But an empty App.cfc *would* accomplish something. It would ensure
that an App.cfc higher up the food chain doesn't fire. You may want to
prevent aht.

Best I could suggest is to file a bug report - and as an FYI I've been

I had a FW/1 app handy but I can't recreate it. Can you please create a
repo zip that I can extract and run here? Since you said the DB call didn't
matter, just make it obvious for me and I'll replace it with another query.
Or, if you ALSO see it with a fake query, use that.

Moderators on the wiki have the ability to download a HTML set, but not the
general public. So the plan is to create, and publish, periodic HTML
bundles. The link will be marked with a date so you know how "stale" they
are compared to the wiki.

Re: docs download

2013-09-11 Thread Raymond Camden

Ok, I spoke with our docs person and this is whats up.

1) You can still get the PDFs from here:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/10.0/Installing/index.html

2) The above link is the old style docs. The new style docs do NOT have the
PDF links. That will be fixed.

So long story short - yeah - you can still get the PDFs it is just a bit
difficult to get there if you don't know the way, and that will be
corrected.

Re: commas and autosuggest

Use the delimiter option of cfinput for now.

My comment about avoiding it wasn't helpful - sorry. As a general FYI, I
avoid the front end UI stuff as much as possible. There are *multiple*
other autosuggest options out there. jQueryUI is one of my favorite, or you
can just go HTML5 with the datalist tag and skip JS completely.

You didn't say - but are you using autosuggests via cfinput? If so - you
can specify another delimiter. Check the CFML Ref for cfinput.

And please consider using another option for your front end AJAX-y
goodness.

Re: Pausing a loop or query

2013-08-19 Thread Raymond Camden

Kinda hacky, but:

Use a db table/column for misc crap, or hell, even a server variable, and
save something called:

lastRow, 1

Do a SQL to get 250 addresses starting at row lastRow.

Process your mail.

When done, set lastRow to lastRow + 250.

All of the above would be a CFM hit via cfschedule.

I'd just tell em that nothing else supports it and the cost of CF STD is <
the cost of asking you to rebuild in HTML forms. (Although rebuilding in
HTML forms would be a HUGE improvement.)

Re: Issue with CFFeed

2013-08-06 Thread Raymond Camden

What's fascinating is that as far as I can see, the second URL doesn't have
a comment. Just saving it locally works. I bet the same works for the first
URL too. To be clear, I was able to parse the XML just fine with cfhttp, so
it is valid XML. If you want to work with that and not the cffeed result,
you can skip the file save.

cffeed doesn't let you source via a string, so you have to save it still.

Not that it helps - but I can confirm it. Since you can't build interactive
forms with cfdocument anyway, why not just replace type="file" with
type="text" before you cfdocument it?

God - even simpler. Just use an existing photosite that has an API. Yeah,
just do that. ;) Hell, even in just Facebook you can share to a particular
album. I'm sure FB lets you embed an album.

Re: 365 Challenge: Photo of the day

2013-07-28 Thread Raymond Camden

I'm curious - if you have a server with a database, why are you concerned
about the size of the captions? They will be tiny compared to the pictures.

All in all - this would be trivial with PhoneGap. And hell - if you are ok
with more modern Android/iOS, you can skip PhoneGap altogether and just use
a regular HTML form. See:

Re: Developer of http://www.hayneedle.com

I know UPS has an API for the labels - I built a wrapper for that once
(amongst other parts of the UPS API). UPS has horrible documentation
though. Ok, not horrible per se - just a horrible _package_ for their docs.
Instead of a PDF, it is some fancy PDF "package" type thing that forces you
to go into and out of books for every chapter or some such. Basically - a
real pain in the rear for folks who want to quickly scan the docs.

I'm confused. When you cfdump the query result, what exactly are you
seeing? Are you seeing a zero-record query or a one row result with no
value? Either my answer or AJ's should have worked.

*sigh*

Let me repeat myself.

The ColdFusion team is working on 11. Right now.
The ColdFusion team is working on an update to ColdFusion Builder. Right
now.

If you want to consider the removal of *file* support from one product as
MORE IMPORTANT then the actual product itself - so be it.

I'll point out that if you don't want to use an Eclipse-based IDE (I don't
- I've been honest about that the last few years), you can get CFML support
in Sublime (not free, but cheap), and in Brackets (free, and epic).
